ILLTUCK's USF41 Executive Build Thread
Hello VSC!
My name is Tony from NorCal (Bay Area, Northern California) and I am a noobie here on VSC. However, I'm not really new to the car scene. I'll post some pictures of my other rides and wheel obsession below. :hello:
Well, after months of searching and going back and forth on whether to get a GS460, LS460 or even the LS600hL, I am finally a Lexus owner. I settled on a 2007 LS460L fully loaded with the Executive seating option. The Executive seating was my main search criteria and that narrowed down my options quite a bit. I even played around with the idea of going out of state to pick up one. Alas, I found one, fairly clean and decent mileage in SoCal. I booked a flight to LA, flew down, checked out the car, paid in cash and drove it back up. All in the same day. I must say, the drive back was amazingly comfortable. I almost forgot how it is driving a stock height car. :)
I don't have much going on right now with the LS, but things will pick up quickly within the next few months as parts are already ordered and on their way from Japan.
I am not very good at doing build threads but I will try and update the thread as I go along.
Don't mind the wheels. Not my style but they came with the car. At least they are quality true 3pc wheels. Not sure on the brand either.
Anyways, here are some pictures the day I picked up the car.
Here are some pictures of my current rides and obsession.

Sorry for the long post. Let me know if you have any questions, comments or would like to see more or less pictures/videos.
Thanks,
Tony

Sup Rene! I'm finally doing a build thread on VSC.
First things first, drive height. I couldn't stand the 4x4 height on the stock LS so I paid a visit to my buddy Carlin @Impact Performance in San Francisco. Carlin told me that he could help me lower the car in the meantime while I wait for my aftermarket air suspension to get built and ship from Japan.
The man himself, Carlin checking out the rear executive seat while getting a shiatsu massage.
Adjusting the stock lowering links with the car ON to trick the air system to go lower. Note the wheel gap.
Lowering links adjusted. It's very difficult to get all the sides to sit evenly. This is the resulting drive height now. It's a good 3 to 4 finger gap lower than stock. This will do for now.
Shortly after Carlin finished, Nat (CL: Nat) and Elvin (CL: lbintab) from Endless Projects came by and we had an impromptu mini LS460L meet. It was cool see 3 LS460L's lined up like that.
Next up, wheels and exhaust... Stay tuned.
Thanks,
Tony

Awesome really love the 460's. Is the Executive seating option the whole massaging and all at the back ?

Yeah, exec seating has a rear leg reclining seat and shiatsu massager.

Next up, custom Exhaust! I wanted to do a similar exhaust setup I did on my Infiniti M45. So I paid a visit to my favorite exhaust guy, Andy @Classic Muffler in San Jose.
This is what we came up with.
Cut everything after the cats. Added a X-pipe then 2 1/4 piping all the way through to dual Magnaflow mufflers. I must say, the 4.6l V8 sounds really good. I love the sound of modern V8's.
Here is a quick sound clip:

I did have some exhaust droning at 1500rpm to 2000rpm. I will update on how I fixed that issue later.

After I got my custom exhaust done I drove it around for a bit and immediately noticed some exhaust drone at around 1500rpm to 2000rpm. It sounded great at all other RPMs and WOT. But the drone was quite loud and to be honest, quite annoying.
I researched on ways to get rid of the drone and found a solution called the "Helmholtz resonance" pipes. Some math genius figured it out, so I can't take any credit. But, basically you add some side pipes that are capped off at the end and sound travels through them and bounces back at a certain frequency and cancels out the drone.
Here's a technical explanation to it if you're curious:
http://www.rexresearch.com/helmholtz/helmholtzresonators.htm
The length of the capped off pipes matter depending on the RPM range of the exhaust drone you want to cancel out. So here's a chart to figure out how long the pipe needs to be:
Since I wanted to get rid of the drone from 1500 to 2000rpm, I took average of the ranges I wanted to cancel out and the length of the pipe came out to roughly to 29.5".
I went to my exhaust guy and told him what I needed and he got it done.

After the resonance pipes were installed, I drove off and immediately noticed the drone was basically gone. No more drone! Let's just say, I fell in love with the LS again. Keep in mind, the resonance pipes have no effect on the exhaust sound, just the drone. So it still sounded the same at WOT. Awesome. :D:thumbup:
Here is a sound clip of the final results:

I recently picked up and installed my K2Motor full LED tail lights. Thanks go out to Nat, Elvin and Carlin @Impact Performance on getting these beautiful tail lights for me.
Overall the quality is good and a deal for the price in my opinion. The new tails really update the look for the LS and they look amazing at night.
Stock 07 non-LED tail lights:
How it looks when opening the box:
Protective plastic unwrapped:
New LED (top) vs Stock (bottom)
Included in the box are the 2 resistors and some sticker gaskets:
And install done, took maybe 30mins:

Next up, my favorite part of building any ride... Wheels! :woot: :woohoo:
I must say, coming from the Nissan/Infiniti/JDM scene I was very spoiled when it comes to wheel choices. First, being that most Japanese cars come in either 4x114.3 or 5x114.3 lug pattern and the wheel options are practically endless. I already have a small collection of wheels but all of them were of the 114.3 variety. Which of course, does not fit our LS460's, with their 5x120 PCD.
So, I searched for my first set of "test" wheels to go on the LS. I immediately came up short. I couldn't find that many 5x120 wheels in my usual wheel searches, so I began searching else where and ended up mostly on BMW and Euro forums as they also run 5x120. Alas, I couldn't find much there either, since most BMW guys run performance setup wheel sizes which range from 18's to 20's. I was looking for either 21's or 22's which are hard to come by.
After a bit of searching, I finally found a used set of DPE wheels on one of the bimmer forums which originally came off of a 750Li and eventually ended up on an X5. I contacted the seller and we worked out an incredible deal that I couldn't pass up. Specs were just about perfect for a semi-aggressive look and fitment for the LS460.
After sending payment, the seller shipped the wheels practically overnight from NYC to CA. (he sent it on a friday, the wheels arrived the following monday) These are how they looked after I received them.
Specs:
22x8.5 +15
22x10 +25
Not ideal, but decent for the LS and stock body.
I gave them a good wash and this was what I was working with. Barely any knicks on the wheels. They definitely needed some re-polishing to look like new and for the price, it was a steal.
I broke out my DeWalt drill and foam cone buff attachment and began shining these babies up. I used Mothers Mag & Aluminum Polish. It's a great all around metal polisher and does the job. Here are the results.. left side is polished, right side is unpolished
Polished lips. Mmmm
One done.
Two done.
And.. All four polish and cleaned up. Not perfect, but it will do for now. I might do the inner barrels at a later time.. but this is good for now.
Next up, test fitting the wheels and getting tires mounted!

Tony
Time to test fit the wheels and check for clearance.
Front and Rear test fit. Rears look flush and will fit no problem. Fronts look like they might poke a few mm's.
Rear side check
Front side check
Front caliper clearance. Although the wheel spins freely. Fitment is too close for comfort. A few mm's will be shaved off the front caliper.
The Final results, front calipers shaved a bit and tires mounted.
Good enough for now. Next up, more waiting on parts to arrive from Japan.

It's been a while since I've updated my build thread. Here is the latest progress on the LS.
My Air Runner On the Ground kit has finally arrived from Japan! Took a little over 3 months to arrive but the wait was well worth it.
For the basic install, I went to my buddy, Barrett @Sonic Motorsports. In addition to the air install, I had him also cut and shave my rear fenders and roll/shave the front fenders for more clearance.
Caution. Air Runner enclosed!
Package contents laid out and inspected (Standard air runner tank not shown)
Close up of the beautiful Air Runner On the Ground struts and sleeved bags
Misc parts
Car up!
OEM Air bags and struts out
Front in.
Rear in.
The moment of truth! Clearance checked and verified no issues.
and we're done and on the ground!
Front shot
Side action
rear quarter shot
Immediately after the install, I headed to LA to show at ToyotaFest 2014 and Spocom Norcal the following week. Will update with show pictures later!
Thanks,
Tony

It's been a while since I've updated my build thread. I'll update it with more in-progress pictures soon!
In the meantime, here's a recent picture:
At last weekend's Shukai Japantown car show. Just installed my new Futura Design Super8/6pot 405mm/380mm Big Brake Kit!
Stay tuned for BIG changes, as the LS is now in SEMA prep-mode!
Thanks,
Tony

I had a white S13 for a long time and been through a bunch of cars.
I have a black S14 kouki now and a 95 LS.
Nice to see you're still into it! A lot of people have moved away from doing cars.
