So not too long ago I had a GS400 project I was slowly collecting parts for as well as driving every day. Then the time came when I needed a beater to drive so I could start working on my project. After browsing around used car listings and also considering that my daily driven/project GS currently had a quarter million miles on the clock I decided that it made more sense to just start over with a much younger GS as the platform for my project. It has black interior as opposed to my other cars tan and its platinum edition (whatever the fuck that means). It has a TRD strut tower bar and black chrome headlights too.
My goal for this build is, Foundation,Quality, and Details.
The foundation is obviously the suspension. I really love the insanely low static japanese cars with really tight wheel fitment. So I decided to take a cue from the current trend in Japan and run full spec T-Demand Pro-Dampers with 40k/26k spring rates. Also Full T-Demand front arms with battle version rear uppers and trac links with T-Demand rear lowers and tokon arms.
Quality to me simply means no cheap shit.
Details. When I walk around shows and look at cars this is the area most lacking in my eyes. I see cars with brand new wheels sitting under fenders that where pulled out with channel locks. I see paint jobs that look like truck bed liner. I see cars with air setups that are higher than drop springs. And dont even get me started on plasti-dip.
So here is a pic of my new project alongside my other GS.

I know this is not a typical vip mod but I think changing the steering wheel will make a big impact on the interior. I have an idea in my head on changing the wood trim inserts also.

My plans for body mods are pretty simple. I plan on modifying the rear wheelhouse for an extremely tight tucking of my 19" wheels while retaining stock looking exterior. Front fender work that will allow for rub-free full lock turning. Bear in mind this will be a static setup so everything must work as is. No airing it up to drive.LOL. Shaving the trunk wing. Proper color change including jambs. I also have a REAL TTE lip and L-Tuned side skirts that I may or may not use depending on how low the car sits after I dial in my wheel fitment. The L-Tuned skirts hang down a good bit lower than stock.I have my eye on a kit that I would like to use at some point but thats way in the back of my mind until I complete these more important things. I also snagged some Audi RS4 bumper vents off a car at work that I might put to good use.

A good friend of mine (MDSC on here) is helping me with the exhaust work. The plan is to Re-do the exhaust from the cats back, which will include a tucked, full stainless steel system with X-pipe, resonators and custom tips. The tips were designed by me and welded by him. The are simply 5" stainless oval tubing from Vibrant, slash cut and welded up with an inlet on one end and then many hours of sanding and polishing later you have what will hopefully be some pretty impressive exhaust tips. These are about 22" long. No giant canisters hanging down. Hopefully this will give a real clean look to the rear. The first pics you see are after being sanded down with 180 grit These things were rough!

I'm currently getting a few things buttoned up on my daily So that I can start on my project. But as far as the project goes I ordered a few maintainence items for when the install begins. I got new OEM inner tail lights, charcoal canister switch, trans filter, trans Mount, motor mounts, valve cover gaskets and lower ball joints. All OEM.

Got a few small things done. Replaced the valve cover gaskets, installed my new O.E.M. red inner tails (as opposed to the nasty pink ones), and also removed my backseat and trunk trim in preparation for modifying my inner wheelhouse. I plan to cut the wheelhouse and raise it up and in order to create clearance for wheel travel and also to tuck the wheels as close as possible to the inside of the quarter panel.

Finally got a chance to do some real work. Im going to complete the wheelhouse modification before I start installing my suspension simply because it will be easier to move around and get on and off the lift while its still at stock height. So the inner wheelhouse on the GS has a step-in that will prevent the wheel from tucking as tight as I want it to. This is what Im eliminating. So I made all the cuts and cleaned up the edges as much as I could working in this tight space.
Its hard to see the step-in from this angle but you can get the basic idea. I started by removing the factory undercoating where my cut would be. This was a shitty job. Then I marked out my cut with a piece of tape.

I intend to show what a well thought out and well executed build really looks like. Grabbed a wrecked fender and sprayed out a color that I like for test purposes. Its a creme colored metallic. Not set on anything at this point, just trying to visualize it. Please ignore the caster issue. LOL.

Its kind of hard to capture this color but its more of a very light tan/creamy white as opposed to the acura color which is more of a pure bright white with blue+white pearl sprayed over it.

Been on summer vacation for a few weeks and now its back to work. Pulled the project back into the shop and picked up where I left off. This time the task was to make patch panels to cover what I had cut away whilst maintaining maximum clearance for the tightest tuck possible.
I started by making a rough trace of my cut on the inside of the wheelhouse onto the outside. This shows the approximate clearance I will be creating.

Because of the size of metal stock I was able to buy and also my limited metal working skills, I figured I could patch up this hole with 3 patch panels.I began with the largest piece. This will be patch panel #1. I then made a rough template to begin forming my patch panel #1 from. I added 3/4 inch to the top of the arch to account for when I rounded over the edge(see next pic).

Here you can see how the rounded edge lines up pretty good with my rough trace. Also you can see that I made some relief cuts in the rounded portion because I do not have access to a metal shrinker. You can also see the hammering that was involved to cause the panel to bend, amature as it may be.

And now you can see how patch panel #1 fits from inside.

With these two complete it was time to set them in place. I used panel bond adhesive(3M 8115) instead of welding for this portion because I wanted to avoid warping the outer quarter panel.
