So I bought this SAMSUNG smart TV..

I just got a small 40" Samsung LED smart tv for my room.  Supposedly it has a built in wifi in it.  I have a problem connecting to the internet on this darn thing.  It will scan and search for my network, connects to the house network fine but it wont connect to the internet.  I know it works fine b/c my phone wifi and laptop connects so the internet. 

What could be the problem???

sounds like firewall issues. or something with your router. i had this issue with another smart tv.

I posted on H-I and some have chimmed in but still no luck.

It connects and I was able to access netflix, pandora, youtube, etc. Since I was able to get connection, i upgraded the software, just in case it needs it and it did upgrade. I then plugged it back into my room and now same thing as before...no internet! If I go out and buy that usb wifi, will that help even though it already has a built in wifi??[/FONT][/COLOR]

are you saying you hooked up the tv via wifi near the router? might be a distance thing then.

yeah its a distance thing.  f'ing boosheet, i tell ya!  I'm about to go return it to bestbuy

Get a stronger router like a wireless n or upgrade you aetenna

I was advised to get a new router and a modem.  ditch comcasts modem and save the $8/monthly fee?

This. It sounds like your router isn't sending a far enough signal. Is your bedroom downstairs, or several concrete walls between the TV and the router?

This is my daily profession, and i always recommend not using the telco provided router. Specially for reasons like this, but you spend more monthly over time for inferior product versus buying a good router.

I updated my wireless recently and went with a Linksys EA6400 as my main router for my fiber connection. Then at places I have multiple devices around the house, which are far away from the router, I used Linksys WUMC710 Wireless AC Universal Media Connector's. This creates a wireless AC link with the router, but I can hardwire up to four devices per connector. Super easy set up and as it is the new AC band, super fast.

Its your router Maybe Modem also that cant carry the signal. 

 I got bought the Asus RT-AC66U, Ive read the reviews on it and most people complained that it had firmware issues, regardless I took a chance, I have not had any problems with it. I didn't need to buy WiFi extenders either, im in a 4,000sq ft house and I get no dead zones.  
What type of router do you currently have??  

and yes ditch w.e the cable/internet company gives you and buy your own, Just make sure you return them back and get some form of receipt that you did because they seem to lose things you give back to them and love to charge you double of what they are worth LOL

I just had comcast install cable internet and cable tv in the house.  as far as internet, they only installed a modem.  A router is the device that usually has an antenna, right?  If so, comcast only installed a modem.  I am told to return that modem and go get a router and that should produce a stronger signal, which in turn will reach my smart tv in my room and will fix my problem???

yes, then you do need a router to carry out the wifi signal.

But just to make sure im reading correct, you have cable internet not DSL internet?? we don't have Comcast out here in Vegas so i don't know what they carry :/

most of the residential units they provide are modem/router combos i think. i could be wrong though

most do but they charge you a monthly fee to have them

Thats why its better to invest and buy your own, its cheaper in the long run.

Nowadays a lot of company installs gateways, which is pretty much a router and modem combination. It could be that your gateway is limited to only so many access. I have a samsung smart tv as well. Make sure you have wifi enabled on the tv. But honestly if you are planning to stream I would connect the tv directly to your gateway as the smart tv does not process fast enough to stream movies over wifi. It tends to drop out. Hope this helps.
