Power inverter hooked to a battery?
I figure I'd post this here b/c its related to car battery but its actually a marine battery and hope some of you are able to help me out.
I may get tickets to tailgate at the Texans game. My question is in regards to powering a 40" LED television using a power inverter and not a generator. I plan on using a deep cycle (marine) battery for this instead of a car battery since it lasts longer than a regular car battery.
My question is if I buy a 800 watt power inverter, will it be enough to power my 40" LED television for about 4 hrs or so?? I just hope that other people don't bring something that will use up more power than the power inverter can handle. Things such as a crockpot, a fan, etc. but if they did, would my 800w be enough for a few hrs?
I just bought a black and decker 800 watt and the reviews on it are "so so". Some are great reviews and some are negative reviews. Thoughts? I'm not a car audio expert and don't know a lick about wattage, volts, amps, etc. so I need help on this kind of stuff.

If the car is not running, it will not last anywhere close to four hours. Check the rating on the back of the TV. It will show a wattage consumption on the ID label. Don't max out the inverter as the amperage draw could be too much and blow the fuses out on the inverter.

mowgli: thanks brother! The tailgate tent is far from the parking lot so I was going to buy a deep cycle, marine, battery and carry it to the tent. The inverter i bought is a black and decker which has a spec of 800 watt max continuous power and 1600 peak. I think ill be alright if I just power the tv and not power it along a crockpot, fan, or a sound bar.. I'll have to look at the back of the tv to see what the wattage it takes to power that tv bc the manual doesn't say it.

Whats the A/H rating on the battery also those cheap inverts tend to use a modified sine wave instead of a true sine wave on the output power side. This tends to cause issues with sensitive electronics like TV's and Computers. The B&D model you're talking about will probably work but it may introduce static into the picture.
