DIY Tables, what material to use for the "posts"?

I'm planning on building tables,  I've figured out materials and methods for everything except the chrome posts that connect the different levels. What would you guys recommend?

I have built my own table and at first I considered using these chrome plated tubes I found but it was too skinny for my liking. I eventually ended up using 1 inch wooden dowels that I wrapped with chrome vinyl.

How about cut drill and tap some stainless rod or acrylic rod for a floating look when lit?

Thanks for the suggestions. I ended up using stainless steel tube cut to length with screws inside to actually hold the two pieces together.

Did you finish your tables? I'm building my own right now.

What did you use for the chrome trim?

I used chrome trim from AutoZone for the edges.
