18 crown majesta (uzs186)
i should have started this thread two weeks ago but here we are. unfortunately it might not be a great build thread showing progress and what not since i bought an 08 black crown majesta (uzs186) from the japanese internet car auctions and had it shipped straight from Kobe to my car shop here in Okinawa (Garcia's), where it has sat for the last few weeks. i ordered the black pearl body kit for it and as soon as it arrives they will be installing it. The car is sort of like a UL version found in the stateside LS430 since it has factory air susp, rear reclining seats, side and rear shades etc...
Car was bone stock except for the JDM side window visors when i bought it so thus far i've purchased a few things for it. Some are in the mail presently some are here already and on the car:
1. DataSystems Air susp controller
2. 19'' Aimgain G wheels (19x9 & 19x10 something like 2.5" & 3.5" or 4" lips, need to measure to be sure)
3. new tires since apparently a 245x35x19 is huge on a 19x10
4. rolled fenders, but might have to have some parts shaved since not an immediate fit after rolling
5. Black Pearl (BP) complete body kit
6. You Zealand SS Kit (30mm body drop kit)
7. BP side mirror blinker things
8. a pair of porsche dual exhaust tips
9. shiny lugs
10. matte black badges
that is all i've got thus far, as far as future stuff i was considering rear arms for more camber if these wheels won't fit. i'm really confused though since my last car was essentially the same chassis and i had more aggressive 20's on it i would have thought this car could fit the 19's i got easy but unless there is actually less wheel well room then these wheels must have huge back pad spacing or something. they were 19x9 like +15 ish & 19x10 +10 ish or something like that that came with 225x35x19 & 245x35x19 but these were huge and not drivable low so i just ordered some 215x35x19 & 235x35x19's, hope these fit a little smaller with a decent stretch.
my newest mod just came in last night:

pics from the auction site of the car stock:
uncool wheel fitment, guess you can't win em all on the first try especially on some used wheels that i didn't get to choose the exact sizes and offsets of. gotta get the fenders more rolled and possibly shaved in some spots plus put on the smaller tires.
this is also a hill and not my ideal spot to try and mount and measure and lower and all that fun stuff. but in japan some places gotta deal with the small amount of space they have.

getting a little closer. got smaller tires and you zealand ss kit on the way. these pics are presently as low as it will go, but after the ss kit it will be 30 mm lower (1.2") and hopefully more tucked. hopefully the body kit will get here by early next week.
i was really unsure about these wheels (design) on this car, but after looking at it for a min or two yesterday i think they are a perfect match (in my opinion). not too aggressive and not too classy, gotta admit i was a little excited yesterday, can't wait to see it lower, full kit, matte black badges, exhaust tips, tint, etc...
the kit might just about touch the ground, not sure if that is a good thing or not¿

yessir ^ ^ ^, i totally agree. i have big plans or well medium sized plans for the rear. if it turns out the way i think it will then it should be a pretty sweet lookin ride.
like i mentioned in my last thread, even just days after purchasing my previous 18 crown athlete i was kicking myself for not waiting for a clean majesta (the cheaper ones were bad) to show up, but at that time with the yen rate being what it was they were more expensive (1 $ = 75 yen). with the yen rate at like 120 today it's like getting 20% of the car if you buy it with dollars converted into yen.

new pics.
new skinnier rear tires fitted, and looks like the toe is off just by a hair. 19x10 with a 235x35x19.
body kit was test fitted and then modded to actually fit. ss kit installed and presently it is on setting 9 on the datasystems controller. the kit is gonna touch the ground on L ;)
i might need to add a little more negative camber. presently on the look out for some adjustable upper controler arms for it.
this is on setting 9 on the controller after being lowered 3cm via the ss kit. i still want to tuck a little more tire so i might have to go with a 20" wheel to achieve this. these 19's on this car are just a little too small. so if this is my lowest safe driving height below it just looks a little too tall to me.

so forgive me for asking a noob question or wanting clarity on a noob-ish question, but if i just want to pull in the top of the rear wheel say 1/4" would that be an adjustable rear upper arm like this here? would anything else likely be required or just that?
and BTW the T-demand one is damn near $850. at this point a slightly smaller set of wheels may be the easier route to take.

yeah, you'd need an adjustable rear upper arm. you could do the cheap route and have someone cut your stock one and add an adjuster. other than that, you're probably SOL, it's not a very common chassis.

i might have to pass on the upper arms option since most recommend the lower and toe arms all at the same time and i ain't got crazy loot to be droppin $2500 for some extra rear camber. i'd rather put that into the correct sized wheels...
but here are some recent shots with the car at L on the controller. can't drive it at this height, just for looks, you know¿
at this height without the body kit it would be about 2" from scraping. when the kit gets put on it might be touching the ground on L mode... gonna look pretty sweet to me for pics. just wish i could drive it at a lower setting.
at the 9 setting on the controller it is like 1.5" too high to me. i want the above tire gap height when driving. that is gonna require 20" wheels of a slightly thinner make, and another 20mm drop... maybe version 2.3 ;)

i don't know if they fit both chassis (mine is the UZS186 now, i used to have the grs18#). i've actually seen them separated out on one site and not separated out on others.
i just put up a pic of that Megan site along with my question in japanese on a japanese crown page, so hopefully i will know something soon. but if they do fit then i am definitely getting those, thanks for the link mlracing. those at 25,920 yen are a lot cheaper.

3gs/grx markX/lexus IS and 18/20 crown stuff fits bro. also factory IS UCA's are shorter than 18 ones, gives you -6.5 camber

thanks alpha. i also just got confirmation on the 18 crown site that they are good. so those adjustable megan UCA's are like $200. i'm thinking of running like -5 to -6 degrees in the rear. i hope the UCA's will do the trick but now i'm wondering if that will mess with the toe too much and require the other arms/rods.

you need 2x arms on rear to get camber bro, pain in the ass but the only way how to achieve camber on rear.

so you think it is okay to just go with the upper and lower rear arms for safely adding the negative camber for th rear?
the car shop my car is at told me last night that they recommended just getting all the arms for the rear. but that is 4 different types of arms; upper arms, lower arms, tension rod, and toe control arm. adding the tension rod and toe control arm adds another $500 just for parts and another $200 for install so if i can safely avoid that $700 i would like to do that.
just upper and lower rear arms are like $700 plus shipping and install is close to $1000.

dude, thanks so much, i am going to try to order these tomorrow. i'm thinking if i can pull in the top of the wheel and get it to be around -8 degrees (been looking at a bunch of reference pics) it should look more flush and less ghetto baller to me...

shouldnt cost you any more than 26000yen per set[/QUOTE]
dude, thanks so much, i am going to try to order these tomorrow. i'm thinking if i can pull in the top of the wheel and get it to be around -8 degrees (been looking at a bunch of reference pics) it should look more flush and less ghetto baller to me...

thank you. so i don't speak a lot of japanese and my car shop speaks very very little english. but i just spoke with him and he said presently the SS kit i just had him install won't work with the rear camber arms and was basically saying i needed something like what you just linked to above.
since i haven't actually driven the car yet i don't know what kind of height clearance i am going to have once the kit is put on. so i am hesitant to pick 30mm or 50mm drop yet. i'm hoping it will be perfect with the 50mm drop and the arms but i guess i need to wait and see first then decide. if it doesn't hit the ground on L then i will go with the 50mm. it is does touch the ground on L then i either need 20's and go with the 50mm or get some of these in 30mm drop. either way it will happen. now if it would only stop raining so they could finish my car ;)

sounds like a pain lol. not sure why he thinks that ss kit wont work with camber arms. ss kit only meant to space out the knuckle(hub) might pay off to have a browse and see what 3GS and 2IS have done to achieve max low. but then they are all static unless aftermarket air. lucky that my crown wasnt air, makes life heaps easier

well my last 18 crown athlete i went air cups on coilovers.
i used to have this same stock air with the controller and ss kit a few years back on my LS430 but after an air strut went out i switched to coilovers. i figure this time i will roll with the stock air until one goes out then decide to go full air or what, at that time...

yeah i find my crown stupidly impractical on coilovers, esp with my massive as kit. thinking of switching to Aimgain or K-Break cause front sits a bit higher

i really got used to having my air cups on my coilovers. the kit i had was only $2500 and its not as good as a full air kit supposedly but i thought it was great.
now for me i'm going back to having a very slow air almost no air ;) pretty much just allow me to ride at a decently low height but be able to slam it for meets and photo opps...
i really want to go full air at some point just not in a hurry to drop $5k+ anytime soon. maybe if/when i get my 2 year extension (job contract if you will) approved i will pull the trigger, which would be around January...

thanks... and it is still a work in progress, not because it is a vip car so therefore it is always a work in progress, i mean my initial plans included more stuff,, then it will move into the continuous progress mode of just being a normal vip car.
originally i had intended to smoke out the tails and the rear center lights, but after hearing about and doing some researching it appears that i have a very rare package on a very rare car sold in extremely low numbers. the rear tail lights other than the red part are normally clear. since mines are like yellowish (i'm actually color blind so not sure really what color they are). Plus the inner lenses where the reverse lights are at are normally clear. mines are half clear and half red, which i think is stooopid so i was originally gonna black them all out like this pic here, but now i'm debating leaving the tail lights as is. thoughts??

the ride height is on setting 8 and is way too much wheel gap for me. now i'm looking for 20's and will most likely lower it by 2cm more (statically) when i put 20's on it.

just dropped the majesta off for stereo install. getting a JBL MS-8 and a 15" RE audio sub plus 1200 epicenter amp installed. i'm also having the shop pull out all my lights so i can hopefully send them to CentralPine tomorrow. gonna get my head lights done like this pic here, they should hopefully look identical with the black housings and RGB halos.
plus getting the rears sprayed/smoked out like these celsior lights seen here:

i will get some good shots later but here it is on L (lowest setting) with the previous wheels (19" aimgain G wheels that will be for sale soon).

i put on an upper rear window visor and rear lower arm lowering kit to add more camber. presently it is at about -4 degrees but the rear fender lip is hitting the rear wheels lip so i need to go to about -6 degrees of camber in the rear. now i gotta put rear upper arms and toe arms to get to the -6 degrees.

new wheels are 20" Work Durandal step lip.
it is on setting 9 in the pics below and i can't even put it on L mode right now (bout 1.5-2" lower) since the rear lips touch the fenders :D

i tried really hard to pull out my rear fender some today, which i did. but now the tire hits on that stupid screw that sticks out way up in the fender well. i had the same thing happen on my LS430 and forgot to even check to see if this car had it too... :D

thanks,
maybe a 5mm-8mm (at most) spacer but anything more and i won't be able to turn while riding low. presently on stock air so it is nice and plush on the dampening, which equals body roll, which equals rubbing if i push em out too far.

i guess the next challenge will be to slap on a 5mm spacer then ride around for a little while fairly low so it rubs some. then once i can actually see and feel where it is rubbing i can take some scissors or garden sheers to the fender liner.
i've never seen or had a car before with such thick hard inner fender liners as the fronts are on this car, they are damn near like 3mm hard molded plastic. after driving a few miles a few different times it wasn't even making any marks in the front from the slight rubbing, like i was able to get from previous cars.

lookin good.
thanks guys.
i'm getting the remainder of the rear arms installed presently. my pull worked some and allowed me to be able to drive a little lower but after the upper arms and toe tension rod or whatever it is called gets installed i think i will set it at around -8 in the rear. i'm getting those screws in the wheel well grounded off/down so i can slam it without those things hitting the tires too.
i think my desired ride height is finally on the horizon \(^_^)

I really liked the aimgains but can't help but love the step lips on your new wheels. Plus they are a bit more modern. And more low is always a big plus!!! Glad you're getting it sorted out! Gorgeous crown!

thanks!
front camber not gonna happen though ;) unless something really cheap pops up.
rear camber was expensive and it is not a big deal to me like that so yeah prolly gonna stay as is for a while. just gonna let it rub a little more in the front, cut the liner, add some spacers, lower more, rub, cut, rinse repeat...
