Check OUt my new VIP PET..haha

This is my new little buddy...

He is a Tokay Gecko. They are known as the Pit Bull of Geckos/ Lizards. They do have lock Jaw. I just got him a day ago and so we will see how this goes.. We also got a Chinese Water dragon for the kids to mess with because the Gecko will be prety much off limits unless I can tame it. Thought I would share this with you..

His name is Cima and the Chinese water dragons name is Bippu..Thought it fit the bill as they are exotic reptiles and all...Peace

The Chinese Dragons Looks like an Green Iguana but it only gets to be 2-3 ft long at the most and about 1-2 ft average..These guys like to swim so I will be buiding a Rain forest like habitat with a pool..These are supposed to be more friendly than Iguanas and alot more fun to watch..

Here is another photo taken earlier..I finished building the Geckos Habitat..10gallon right now and in about 6 months I will put him in a 20 gallon and that should be it....It has a moonlight on so the camera is picking up the puruble like pink..I probbably need to mess with the settings more but the light that is on during the night is a moonlight(blacklight)

Wow, that's a crazy coloration! Are all Tokays brightly coloured like that?

They can lock thier jaws like pit bulls. IF they bite you you have to summerge them in water for them to let go other wise they will tear your skin abart and they do draw blood..

as far as thier color goes thier are ranges in how light and dark they are but, for the mose part they share the same orange and turquiose spots with white lines on thier tails...some are a little darker but most of them are pretty close in color..Mine happens to be a very light colored one I got the pick of the bunch..these where just put out on the floor for sale that night we went..When they are stressed they will get alot darker. when we first got him home he turned like really dark grey with maroon spots and then this morning he was back to being light colored..

That is some crazy looking lizards. Where's their natural habitat?

IN the tropical jungles in Asia.

nice lizard, love the colors on him. Does he change colors or doers he stay like that? I also have an exotic reptile, a baby Sulcata Tortoise. He's the third largest tortoise in the world.

Those lizards legal in the states? I want a side hobby like that but where I am from I got a ton of restrictions (Hawaii).

THy both can change colors a little, but mainly its do to thier mood. The water daragon will get darker sometimes if he is scared..As he grows up he will be getting a Red/Orange color on the bottom of his neck. The Gecko can go from the color I posted to a dark grey with really bright white spots, once again depends on his mood..The Tokay gecko's bight and have lock jaw and considered the PitBull in lizards.

YEs they are legal here in the satetes..should be legal in Hawaii to..you should check..they are fun to watch..

The Tockay Geckos do have a barking sound but mine has not made that sound yet, he is still a Juvenile. As he gets older he should start barking..crazy..

YEah the Cecko is slammed framed to the ground,,I had to tweak his arms with some - camber to have him so low,,but thats the good thing about air sus he can raise himself back up to get over the ruff terrain...hee hee hee

Well I will try to check to see if it is legal. Then it may be  cool to have those in my aquarium. Gotta wait till I leave Japan.:thumbsup:

One thing mang...if you decide to get a tokay gecko...Put them by themselves..They will fight and they wont loose..My gecko would probably kill my water dragon right now at this age..SO they are in seperate habbitats..Good luck!

Sorry man, but I have to chime in as a pit owner.  They do NOT have lock jaw.  They just have a drive to never give up, so they can retain their grip on what they are biting.  Generally, pit owners have some sort of release command for their dogs, or else you walk around with a "breaking stick" (LOL).

The best thing about having tropical lizards (tropical anything for that matter) in Hawaii is the fact that you do not have to simulate natural environments.  You are in the natural environment!  If they were illegal, authorities are probably scared of owners that would release them into the wild.  You'd have more geckos...errrr...they'd prob eat all the geckos (which were also introduced) in Hawaii.

Niether do pit bulls,,but they call it lock jaw because they are extremely hard to get them to open once they bight. Same as the tokay. Once he bights he is not letting go,,the only way to get them to let go is 1) sumurge thier heads underwater 2) Rub a little rubbing alchohal on thier noses (may not work on all of them) or pry thier jaws open. The tokays WILL NOT let go with out a fight..All of the inof on the net as well as the pet stores have told me the same thing..MAny websites will label them as the pitbull of geckos/lizards..

And for humidity..you guys in hawaii would probably not have to worry about that..In the dry ass desert that I live in I am constanly spraying there cages with water to keep up the humidity....

umm, a bunch of gecko lizard animals are illegal in hawaii...  they're a threat to the aina (native plants and animals)!  i think, the fines are up to $200,000?

look awesome! that color is astonishing! i myself just bought a lizard about a month ago. i just bought a Vieled Chameleon. it is so cool, the way the walkk and shoot out thier tongue. did you have to order that Tokay or were you able to pick it up at a local pet store? we don't have anything like that at any close to me.

I bought them both local..I almost got a chameleon as well but They seem to be a little more on the sensitive side and with my kids I would not want to stress it and kill it..

Here he is locked on to my wifes gloves[ he staid like this for 30 min..we had to dunk his head under water for a few seconds then he let go and we put him back in his clean cage
