safest way to convert pcd 5x114.3 to 5x100?

Hi,

I've got a set of 19s (pcd 4x100 and 5x100) to be put on a Honda Accord (pcd 5x114.3)

I was just wondering what is the safest way to be able to put these wheels on my car

1. fill in the holes on the wheels and redrill it to 5x114.3 (seems that this way might weaken the structure of the wheels)

2. buy a set of adapter which convert 5x100 to 5x114.3, but most adapters are 1" thick which might be a problem with rubbing and some people say adapters tend to vibrate during high speed

3. buy a set of used 5x100 pcd adapter off other cars (for eg celica or golf) and replace the original adapter (5x114.3) with the 5x100 adapter. is this possible??

any opinion?

The reason I want these 19s, because they are very rare and hard to find

#2 is the answer.  As long as you buy the hub centric versions they WILL NOT vibrate.  As far as the rubbing is concerned it sounds great, because after a little roll and pull you'll have excellent fitment.

None of those options are very good...

A 1" spacer will likely cause the wheels to stick out on the Accord;
they typically require a medium to high offset wheel.
 
Also, if they're 4/5x100, chances are they're pretty narrow.
I've done as wide as 8.5" front & 9.5" rear on the Accords 
without serious issues. Are you going for a narrow look?

I'd get a better-fitting wheel...

You could potentially have an adapter made as thin as 20mm.... and cut down the studs a bit. Most modern japanese cars have just right about 25mm of stud length.. not all... most. Best "bolt-on" simple solution is to get a 25mm/1" adapter made, get the wheels on, and then make them fit. Accords can take a lot more wheel than most people (in the US) think.

the wheels are 19x8 and 19x9 (offset around 37 I think)
so if I put 1" adapter, the wheels will stick 1" out
and from what i've seen accord would only take 19x8.5 and 19x9.5 at the most

The width of the rims and the offset are what make the difference of fitment.

well if the max width that the accord can take its 8.5/9.5, and it's got a 25mm adapter on it, then it's only going to stick out 12.5 mm, i don't see the plm. a 15mm pull is nothing. DO IT.

if these wheels are so rare, why not sell it to some scion owner? scions love VIP style, and you could get a better set of wheels that fit your car.

what year is your accord ?

My suggestion is dont do #1. Your life may depend on it. And most wheel shops wont change the PCD. but the ones that do can only do it if there is room tp play with

Care to elaborate and why we use these on race cars if they "aren't safe"?  The way we stated will not pose any threat to his well being.  Maybe you're confused with what we're talking about here.

Oh! I was referring to the filling in the holes and re-drilling idea. To me that sounds like it will most likely weaken the structure.

I used big 30mm spacer a few years ago when I had no idea what a offset was and never had issues personally nut I wouldn't bet my life on them. Those conversion spacers I wouldnt use again. I've had 3 friends who used them and the studs that are pressed into the spacers have sheared off. We took a road trip once and someone noticed his wheel shaking pretty badly and pulled over and only 1 stud left holding the wheel on and it was hand loose. I'm sure the ones used for racing are of the highest quality but I wouldnt bet my life on H&R or GTO. Just a head up.

If the wheel is of high quality doesn't some companys in the US do custom redrilling of the wheels?? im not sure how they do it but ive seen advertising of some custom machine shops that redrill PCDs on wheels so they can fit them to other cars. 

not sure but something to research on and maybe might be a solution. 

allows you to not use adapters and does not have to worry about offset issues. 

Ive heard of people using adapters and not having a problem but ive also heard of horror stories too. so i think it just depends on which brand. i think the only ones i would trust is from Japan. i believe its kcks. (SP??) they are imported by makin industries they have the Ion lug nuts that are like a fortune. they make adapters and spacers that are hub centric as well. if its good to use on a R34 then why not. :thumbsup:

What kind of car are we talking about changing bolt pattern???  The reason Im askin is because on some "older" cars is possible to buy blank hubs/drums/rotors and have them drilled to your spec. bolt pattern.

I was just looking at some accord hubs on  ebay to see what we were talking about and it would definitely be possible to press out the factory studds and drill a new bolt pattern.  It would take alot of work removing hubs and finding a place to do this(most wont becuase of liability issues) but its possible.  Ive done it on other cars.  You would have to have your rotors drilled to match also.
