Spring Rates?

Anyone knows how to read spring rates.I don't know anything on spring rates.I found a set of coilovers for my car "94 gs300" and the spring rate for the front is 15lbs./839 inches and the rear is 9lbs./504 inches.if I use these coilovers,do you think the ride would be stiff.and what spring rate would you recommend for a comfortable ride.this company can also make custom spring rates.any info would be great.thanks.

Spring rate is measure kg/mm for metric and lb/in for standard. Meaning if you have 9k springs it takes 9kg for it to compress 1mm, or if its a 500lb spring it takes 500lbs to compress 1in. Maybe you misread the specs. It looks like it would be 15k/9k or 839lb/504lb which makes sense if you use this calculation.

1 kilogram / millimeter = 55.9974146 pounds / in

For comparison tein cst uses 7/392 front, and 5/280 rear, tein flex for that chassis are 12/671 front and 7/392 rear. So that setup would be stiffer then flex, but it isnt all about spring rate, shock dampening, design, bushing type etc can also determine stiffness/harseness/ride etc.

look up JIC and HKS
they make coilovers for your car and they list
their springrates.
