Doing a water pump on a 91 LS400?

There is a 91 ls400 for sale here in SD but they say it needs a new water pump. Anyone ever done one. I have never worked on one of these motors before.
p.s. They are selling the car for dirt cheap..

will be worth it in the end.  trust me.  been there, done that.

I too have a 91 LS 400, and I guarantee there's going to be a little more to do than just a water pump.  I ended up having to rebuild the whole motor, water pump, rack and pinion, motor mounts, power steering pump/reservoir, replace every little knick knack (windshield wiper motor, starter, alternator, fan bracket, fan clutch, control arm bushings, blown shocks, instrument cluster, A/C LCD screen, valve covers, ETC.)

After it was all done, I never felt so good.

and some people think they ballin just cause they got all this exterior/interior bling.
yeah, they'll be pimpin when they got the nicest ride on the side of the highway alright. :p

It's not that I don't want to do it I just don't want to get in over my head. I'm not sure if my "skills" (LOL) are that good.

you'll learn by getting your hands dirty. :smiley: 

I calculated all the repairs I've done myself to my 91 LS4 and the total would have been somewhere around $8,000.  I saved myself thousands.  Are you in good hands? :p

I agree BUT.... I am getting this car to drive everyday and I already have a racecar that is not 100%. AND I have a three-month-old little girl so the time I do have for cars is limited.
But I talked to my buddy who owns his own shop and he said he could do it for under a $1000. 
So 2g's for the car and lets say $1000 for the pump, timing belt, and other little things along the way.

Well while writing this I was thinking about what the guy was saying. He said that the car runs but after about 10 minutes the car shuts off due to a sensor for the water pump. Don't know if that’s how it works or not?

But this means I can't really test-drive the car until after its fixed. F that!

I guess I will keep looking for a better one.
