coilover lowering techniques

hello all. recently ive been wanting to lower my car a little more. i like the air suspension setups, but dont really want to spend more money on my vehicle. i am currently on a set of ksport coilovers that was lowered by the knuckle/spindle connector, going up the coilover.  so someone advised me that i can lower the vehicle more by lowering the lower spring perch, thus making the spring go down. but to my understanding, i thought that the spring was supposed to be all the way stiffened when the coilover is unloaded(no weight on it)? 
so i guess my question is, if i remove my coilover from my vehicle, and lower the lower spring perch 1" down(leaving me to be able slide the coilover valve(connected to the camber plate) 1" of freeplay) will this be ok?

Yes.
 
My coilovers are about 2" from being secure (i.e. when i jack the car up there is 2" between the top of the spring to the tophat). This is not optimal for handling, but its certainly not bouncy or harsh
 
If track times are your only concern, then you need to make sure the spring is compressed when unloaded. since you are on this forum i guess that is not the case ;)
