crazy stretched tires do not make you the man.

warning...late night rant ahead. haha.

Recently i've been noticing a tonnnnnn of threads, mainly by newcomers, about what tires to stretch, how stretched can i go on blah-blah-blah's, do you think this is safe, and so on. I feel that all the VIP bandwagoners so to speak are going to be doing this thinking that the more stretched their tires are, the more VIP and awesome they are. It's almost getting to the point of being ridiculous.

The whole point of stretched tires is to fit a wider wheel in a smaller area. Also, to allow you to go as low as possible on said larger wheels. I mean, that is why people started doing it. We run stretched tires on minitrucks all day to lay frame on big wheels, it's nothing new, and it certainly wasnt originated by VIPstyle. I know old school rodders that said they were running that shit back in the day to fit wide ass wheels haha.

I guess the point of this is to see how you guys feel about this issue. I feel that if you have an insane stretch and u can see 1/2" of the inner barrel of your wheels...but you have it set up so that when u drop it the 1/4 rests in there...then thats amazing and the whole reason VIPcars have been running stretch. But if you're running an big stretch just to think youre cool and its not functional and uncalled for...then i hate you.

so to sum up... the angle of the dangle has to be proportionate to the heat of the meat. (will ferrel qoute)

i totally agree... maybe i'm not in wid it... but i like the way 265s and 275s look on 10s... solid and safe I've run mild stretches for clearance reasons but thats it like 225s on 9s... its an issue of safety after awhile and a stretched tire that doesnt need to be done looks lame when clearance isnt a problem

maybe I'm just not VIP =p

agreed, it's function over aesthetics. i'm not too fond of seeing fully exposed stretched tires.

I like the streched tire look allways have and allways will..Just about every style of modding there was allways the extreme and the conservative..I guess like allways I lean towards extreme...I have never had any problems with streched tires (knock on wood)or big wheels (knock on wood) Most places have allways said other wise..dont go 24 yuo will mess up your front end..dont go 12" reversed you will mess up your hubs,,dont strech your tires you will jack up your rim...dont use spacers cause its not reccomended...its all talk...IF you go the extra mile and do things right and take care of your gear...then your gear is good to you back......I do think there is a point were saftey comes into play but there is allways room for a little extreme..

I streched because its what was on the tires and in order for me to roll as low as I do and to have such a big wheel back there...I have no other choice moiving forward...well I do have a choice and I choose to strech.

Stretching just to stretch is retarded. Do it out of necessity, and then only enough to get the job done. Simple as that.

:werd2: I agree 100% w/ you guys!
When I first got into the VIPculture I thought streched tires was part of the VIP style to give off that look of a bigger rim w/ less tire, but after being on this forum and learning aa little more I relized that it's not only for looks it's the best way to fit wheels and eliminate rubbing issues. IMO I LOVE the streched look! and now when I see a non streched tire it looks NASTY to me! But whoever wants to strech to be extreme and compete then go right head! We will see you down the road pulled over because a tire blew and u spun out and smashed your shiet!

I reply'd to a thead about putting a 225/35 on a 10 inch rim and I would only advise it and use it personaly for the functional purpose......But I do have to confess that I'm an avid lover of the stretch.......It look's awsome.....

+ 1 on conservative, I have buddies who talk all day about how i need to stretch my tires, but I ignore them. It's a preference, I am not sure where the whole idea that extreme stretched tires are VIP is coming from but I disagree with that statement.

I like stretch in the cases where it is used to put rim as close to the fender as possible. I'm not a fan of "lookit how daring I am" stretch.

I didn't wanna say it first but I've been thinking this ever since I started coming to this forum. I also hate people that want the stretch "look" just cause. Its about function.

what 'function'? to provide better asthetics? It is what it is... we stretch to fit rims that are too big for the car or to get them as flush as possible for a more aggressive stance.

There are no performance value/function to stretching. Anyone who says so is giving out horrible advice.

"We sacrifice a bit of safety and support to achieve the desired stance and fitment"

(the function being to have better stance, as opposed to have tires stretched more than you need to.)

They provide the ability to put a larger wheel than normal in the fender space provided. Which in turns enhances the aesthetics.

To the guy above this message...
Stance has nothing to do with the function of a vehicle...that's aesthetic.

I didn't mean stance was function, I meant the function was stance. ie: what does stretching tires do? it improves stance.
Maybe I'm just crazy:hsughr:

i have to agree... w/the topic of this post. i stretched 225-35-20s general tires on my venerdi hereborani CL210s and it was a disaster. i would never do that again. the ride was loud. the potholes were horrible and in the end it dinged my wheels more because i had less sidewall protection. you live and learn through mistakes so vsc and people's feedback help a lot. i am urging everybody not to rock 225-35-20s on 9.5 rims yo, bad choice... better choice would've been 245-35-20s or even 255-40-20s coz' you get mo bettah protection. ok nuff' said. have a good day :) vr, mikey

The whole point Mikey is that on your fitment with those wheels, that much stretch was not necessary. What we're saying is that you should only do it when it is necessary for making the fitment work, but then only to do it as much as needed and not in excess. The whole hitting/dinging the wheels thing has to do with how you drive. I never had issues with what you're speaking of and you know where I've had to drive, so that is based on your experiences..which is cool. Your opinion may bring merit to certain members. So please don't think I'm just making opposition for the sake of nothing.

a little stretch is fine.

To me, my 255 35 20 on my 20x9.5 is a really nice stretch. You get a nice "slant" and still a good snug fit up against the beads-lip.

but some people can't tell and go with the "trend" they stretch without needing to and they poke without the proper fender modifications.

my biggest problem is when people get on your case when your tires are not stretched like if I ran a 275 on a 10 instead of a 225 (hasnt happened to me on here yet) sometimes I see that from the 240 crowd when theres a 245 on a 9 instead of a 215 or something

Agreed, only stretch when needed to fit the wheels in, not for just plain looks. Now let's see some pics of when stretching was not necessary.

Judging by the rub marks on the tire, he needs that stretch. But if he rolled his fenders he could go without it

:giggity: Oh no, I asked this question.

Please dont hate me!

I did have a problem tho, I wanted to run 20x 10 on the only RWD with a FWD offset
( stupid car ) but rubbed even with a 2" inch drop. Im trying my best to figgure something else out but havent got around to it yet and put my old springs and wheels on untill I get those bags.

I do agree with you, its only cool when its needed.

Stretched tires makes you PIMP! :crunkahameha:
You guys say only for making wheels fit right..not for looks right? Well what are all these VIP cars for function????

Yeah right its all about looks...There really is no function at all in VIP styling..I mean come on riding 3" off the ground
for a DD car? Theres is no function in that...and most folks will end up stretching there tires anyways because you if you start out
conservative with your styling most likely if you stick around long enough you will start being more aggressive in your mods..
That's how it always works..You might like a +35 offset now but in a year you will be in love with a 0 offset..So for all that say don't stretch
unless you have to...well you never really ever have to..its a choice we all make..and it does make your car look more VIP than without...if you look at all the cars most are stretched and the ones that arn t look like they just are to scared to stretch and the car does not looks as
good as the rest..Whether its a mild or an aggressive stretch..in my eyes its a must and If I was a judge judging VIP cars at shows I know I would look for nice stretch over not....so don't let me be a judge at a car show because I am bi-est.

Please tell me you thought that out before you typed it...

Function is exactly what it provides. Functional TO ACHIEVE the look and make it drivable. In order to get the fitment right certain things need to be done..and you know this. These things make the wheels FUNCTIONAL on the car or else you'd have weak whack ass fitment. So your beginning statement is off, but the rest is correct.

good as the rest..Whether its a mild or an aggressive stretch..in my eyes its a must and If I was a judge judging VIP cars at shows I know I would look for nice stretch over not....so don't let me be a judge at a car show because I am bi-est.

Well you and I see function as different things..I dont see a car 3" off the ground as a daily driver very funtional at all..Having to take longer ways to avoid speedbumps, parking further because I can't make it up a driveway..allways on a look out for road imperfections is not functional at all..I do it because I thats how I roll...allways have and allways will..I will risk alot of safty for LOOKS...

YEah you could allways get air for some of those situations but rolling around slammed at alomost 0 psi is not functional either..thats where Coilovers come in and thats why I wanted coilovers vs air..because I want some stability while rolling low...but the purpose of is not to roll 4x4 but and park low..I think thats wack..If I had air I would only use to for clearance purposess...

So I think my first statement is correct from MY prospective maybe not yours but mine it is...

this is a major problem with this VSC forum and most US stateside VIP fanatics.

we have to throw our expierences and knowledge together so that we can achieve a good balance of looks and function.

how far can we push it so that we can maintain decent function for daily driving ? how much is too far ? we seem to toss this major factor aside only to achieve looks, this is not the right way to do it.

Is there a better way to do it without losing function ? how low can you go without losing function ? how much can you stretch without losing function ? What are other possibilities to achieve the "look" and "stance" while maintaining good functionality ? this should be the one main focus.

ITs how you see things..

There are different types of folks in this world..You may be conservative person while I may be more of an extremest. There is no problems this forum or with US stateside fanatics..once again its how you view things. If you mod your car and its your daily driver its up to the person how far
he or she wants to take it..Some push the envelopes while others dont..All the VIP cars that I like are cars that have steched tires deep lips low as can be..I dont care for the cars that have no lips, 4x4 stance or even 1-2" drop..well its not that I dont care about them its just I would rather be rolling low with heavy camber, deep lips and low enough where you scrape just a little bit here and there..Its not a problem for me and I think that My car will look the same whether I am driving or parked..

I dont know about you guys but there has been many style over the years and throught all those styles there were the cars that everybody wanted and the cars that just did not cut it,, because they were just that to conservative and not willing to push the envelope to have what they really wanted..

So its all about how much you are willing to invest, how much you are willing to sacrafice and how much you are going to worry about a the things that will go wrong..The way I see it if something goes wrong deal with it then but dont antisipate disaster...

well if you call jacking up your quarter panels to the point of destruction, then by all means, be the man.

my entire point is : there is a balance where you can achieve good stance as well as good functionality.

and as far as trend goes, I'm not the one stretching tires when it's not needed.

ITs just a quater panel and can be repaired..you make it seem like its the end of the world..Trial and Error my friend trial and error..

Well you did stretch those 20's a little and I know from expierence with those offsets you have on there and as low as you are that there was no need to strech but you did even if it is a little..

Its not about picking a fight and trying to call out inperfections in ones work...Like I said I am willing to try something new and if I done succeed their is allways a body shop just a Few $$$ away..I am not sweating it...and it is all worth it for my fitment..My fitment is PIMP..and the fenders will be Pimp to as soon as I get around to it...

Like I said before its cool to be conservative there is no harm in it, but don't knock on those that arnt conservative just cuase your knot..its like you take it personal...

I am very conservative on my LX470 because I still owe $40,0000+ on it..and I am not about to start messing around with it.

I think thats why you see mostly all the new cars more EXE style and all the paid off cars more VIP style....

At first i will admit that i didnt quite know the purpose of stretching the tire. However as i lowered it i realized how it helped having stretched tire to go lower and have the wheel fit better.

Imo i dont like it stretched too much. But the way i look at it now is, im stretching it to fit better instead of "looks better moar stretch"

hey dude thats a little stretch...you could have gone 255/35 275/35 would have been the proper size and still would have cleared...with a slite roll. I had 255/35/20 on a 9.5 wheel and it had a little strech..

seems like you are taking this a little to personal:pat:

why the heck would I go fatter than I need to ?

I said I like a slight "slant" on my tires, I didn't say I like big fat balloons.

and for your information "mr know it all" "mr encyclopedia britanica", , the slight stretch was functional, any fatter and I'd have to increase my camber to -2 to -3.

Right. Stretched tires on stock height just accentuates the wheel gap and that looks dumb. IF you sissies say that you can't afford to crack your $100 front lip by running that low, then VIP is not for youze....

$100? LOL add an extra 0 to that then lets see who cries when they crack that lip ;)
Most of the people on here are running kits that are well over $2,000 un painted and in some cases, thats the price they paid for used kits. These kits are rare in the states and shipping costs a butt load from Japan and takes weeks.

Seems like every one is touchy about this topic..its just tires man..Who cares what the next guy has as long as your happy...I think that Folks need to stop seaking approval for the things that they want to do on thier cars...and people need to stop haiting on others that like different things..and can afford it.

As far as scraping if you are running a knock off lip kit or bumper than scrapping the bottom should not be a concern..however if you authentic gear and paid $3000-$4000 just for the kit than
buy air so you dont scrape in those places...

VIP to me is about being slammed..not finding ways to lift your car for more clearnane when other have proven different. Its about finding more room to lower it without effing up you oil pan...

We all have our own likes and dislikes and we all have different budgets,,So what might be expnesive for some to replace is pocket channge to others..and once again dont hait because you cant afford to do what that fool can with money...

Strech tires dont make you or break you. IT does not mean your more of a man because your willing to sacrafice safty for looks..All it means is that you like what you like and no one should through a fit about it...!

We all have our own likes and dislikes and we all have different budgets,,So what might be expnesive for some to replace is pocket channge to others..and once again dont hait because you cant afford to do what that fool can with money...

so you can scrape an OEM bumper or knock off bumper-spoiler to death but it's not ok to scrape other bumpers ? "Durrrrr" as Mind of Mencia would say.

your sh*t makes absolutely no sense, so much hot air I swear.

Qoozy,

Dude I have been civilized with you. whats your trip? Why are you attacking my options..I left yours alone.? You like to name call and provoke and I have to maintain a level of maturity now. So if you have a personal problem which I know you do take it to PM and we can discuss issues further..This is not a place to have these types of posts!

TO me an oem bumper is as good as crap..I don't care if I scrape it,,I want to scrape it because then I know I am low enough and will give me reason to buy a REAL Authentic KIT not some crappy wald knock off that cost $250 bucks for the whole kit on YAhoo JApan..Yeaah I have seen them and they are worthless and sracthing it is no BIG DEAL..

I would want to take care of an authentic kit more as it cost more but even then if I scraped to much I would just by air for those areas..once again not a big deal..

You seem to think that your opinion is set in stone and you take offense when ever anyone disagrees with you..name calling and all is just silly and uncalled for..

If you noticed in my post I usually say my opinion, this does not indicate wrong or right just indicates opinion..

I think some ask the question of asking for approval because they what to do their car the right way. Instead of doing VIP and thinking it's VIP. Also some may be seeking assistance because they just have no clue or they want to be safe and make sure they don't crash they're shit and die or somthing!

If you buy a cheap kit you should worry more for the fact that it will break easier. I agree wit buying authentic and air but we are not all BIG TIME BALLERS and have the means to save that much or spend that much at that moment!

VIP to me is about being slammed..not finding ways to lift your car for more clearnane when other have proven different. Its about finding more room to lower it without effing up you oil pan...

I kinda of agree wit this part

Strech tires dont make you or break you. IT does not mean your more of a man because your willing to sacrafice safty for looks..All it means is that you like what you like and no one should through a fit about it...!

I can dig that!

This is just my 2 cents but I think the mods should close this thread because it's getting way to heated and we don't need any Streched tire or ANY beef on here!

Waite Waite Waite no need to close the thread guys..come on have some faith in us members..This is a debate thread and debate thread get heated up all the time..its whether they calm down or not is what makes them fun or not to read...

I have said all that I needed to say and I don't have beef with Qoozy.. I respect his style and him as a member, he has a lot knowledge to share with us all..its just opinions and with that said.. I made a comment before about not arguing for the sake of arguing and trying to keep this forum
positive..well I meant that...and I argued my point and that's all I can do. There is no more input that I can provide to persuade anyone otherwise so that's why I said I am out of this thread..I just wanted to stand up for Qoozy and myself before I bounced....
