just expierenced a 2003 BMW 7 series, it was horrifying (financially & functionality)

my cousins friend just picked up his car from the dealer and stopped by my pad real quick. He just dropped 800 bucks to replace the brakes and another  600 dollars to replace a sensor. :madgo: :sad:

I was like WTF ? 800 dollars just for brakes ?

anyhow the horrific astonishment doesn't stop: It has one of those little remote key's that doesn't use a traditional key, after pushing every button on the remote, the door finally unlocked. The remote button symbol's use some kind of ancient mayan deciphering system rather than the usual padlock symbols.  

Upon sitting on the drivers seat, I stick in the remote key into the slot then I press the "engine start". At this point I'm thinking to myself "what was the point in that?" . Then I look for the parking brake....where is the parking brake. Oh wells, forget the parking brake. 

As I try to turn the gears from park to drive, I stumbled into Neutral, then reverse, then back to park, then back to neutral then finally to Drive. The shifting gear is very tricky and so fuking redundant. 

After some effort I finally get it into drive. So I figure hey, why not take a test drive since I went through all that effort just to start the car. WOW, what a disappointment. It drove no better than my dad's LS430. 

Damn I can't believe the bullcrap involved with this car. Thank goodness for lexus and infiniti. 

oh and the navigation system ? forget it.

euro brakes are more exspensive because you have to replace the rotors and pads at the same time. softer material = wears out faster. and yes... wasent the 03 likes the first year those models came out ? never get the first model of anything, cause none of the bugs areent worked out yet.

Yup, the 03's are known for electrical problems. Too many problems.. If you guys considering getting one, don't buy a 03. Get yourself a late 04-ealry build 05. As far as the brakes, it's true, you have to change both pads and rotors. You wanna know how much to replace the oem battery?... Try $460 that's intalled lol.. How do I know this, because my cousin has an 03, and I go to the dealership with him, laughing at him when he gets the car back... chaCHING!

BMW's are great cars, but unless they are under warranty I really wouldn't bother with one too much. 

The guy I'm buying my GS4 from is looking at an '05 or newer 7 series, because he did his research and found out the first couple of years of the new body style have a lot of problems.

i love the 7- series...but would never buy one :)

i like the 99ish' 7 series wayyyyy better then the newer ones.

BMW's are awesome cars, aside from the maintenance involved. -_-

 I recently changed the brakes and it did require rotors/pads to be replaced that the same time. BMW's have alot of brake dust because of the softer metal and brake pads they use which allow the car to stop on a dime. Its a totally different car in terms of feel vs. Japanese car.
