245/35/19 on 10" wide rim?

i am considering this tire on a 19x10 rim in a 245/35/19 because someone is selling a good used set for cheap locally.

i went to tirerack here for the tire specs:

it says 9.5" is the max wheel width allowable for the 245... help?

there is always what you can ACTUALLY get away with and what the tire company recommends...like someone can recommend a +45 offset wheel since that is...let's say...the stock specs, but really you can do a +20.  So to answer your question, yes, a 245 will be just fine on a 9.5" wheel.  if you can do a 225 no probs on a 9.5" wheel, a 245 is nothing.

i just don't know what is considered to be unsafe. to me, i would have thought a 225 is dangerous because i have no data to base it on, only what the manufacturer recommends.

i used to have a 20x10 with a 255/35/20 on it and i had a inner sidewall failure in which the steel belts on that side had separated, causing a deformation that i cannot be seen when mounted on the car. i only found out about it when i was selling my setup. the shop i was at told me i was a step away from something possibly catastrophic, and i should have followed the manufacturer's recommendations because it was unsafe... 

so now i have a 19" wheel and i'm not sure what is considered "safe", so i thought to ask here.

I got a 245/35/19 on a 10.5" wheel..
Something to consider..buying cheap tires will give you cheap reslults..MOst folks stick with Flakens and dunlops for streching there set up..Most shops have to becareful on what the reccomend to a consumer for legal reasons..but as far as what you are looking for your good to go.

well if you're that concerned with safety, go with the manufacterer specs...in the end, it will give you piece of mind...I've had first hand experiences with a 275 on a 10.5", 265 on a 10", 225 on a 10", and 225 on a 9.5". all worked out fine.

im running a 245 35 19 falken tire  on my 10" wheel and have had no problems with that size, and the car is driven daily.

all of you with this tire size... do any of you have pics of it mounted?

i didn't think the general was cheap? tirerack has it at the top of it's ratings list.

Well they are not as good as dunlops,nittos,perrallis,yokoham,continetals..the list goes on.. I have tried no name tires in the past and honestly some are great while others are bad..so its hard to really say but, most of the time time you get what you pay for. Falkens failed you..I have heard of others saying the same thing,,but then again look at the price difference compared to a dunlops, michellens bridgestones and goodyears...

it seated itself

best tires ive ever used for a stretch

and tirerack is the worst place possible for almost any information

don't trust their reviews...a few years ago i bought some fuzion zri tires because they were cheap...and they were complete shit.

I had ST115 245/35/19 on 19x10.  Nice mild stretch for daily driving.

that was a Falken ST115 245/35 on a 19x10.5

when we compared the ST115 tire to another brand(current),
it was as if it was the same size as a 225/35(in width). older falkens
were quite ridiculous.. currently im running a FK452(current falken), and they
seem to be a little bit beefier than Nitto 555's in the same size.
So falkens went from being way to small to being on a larger end.
i dont see any issues with a 245/35 on a 10.5 so i think a 10" would world just
fine.

i'll be running a 10/11 soon and i was just wondering what would be the max stretch for daily driving? i was thinking 225/35/19 and 245/30/19???

I just bought a new set of falken 452's.  Running a 225/35 on a 9" and a 235/35 on a 10"  You should be fine with the 245/35 on the 10"

Just make sure the tires you get are z rated.

FYI

I ran Generals on my SC300 for a good while and loved them.  Would buy them for treadware and ride quality.  I'll agree with Zion that you don't want to compromise on tires at all, however....in this case....you get a whole lot more than you pay for when you buy generals.

BTW I'm currently running Falken ST115 on my Q45 because Tire Rack had the generals on back order for 6 weeks when I needed to buy tires.  the ST115s are great for stretching cause they have a side wall design that's already rounded for clearance. 

I'd definitely would highly recommend either one of the above mentioned.

235 35 19 on 10J and 245 35 19 on 11J will give u a very nice stretch.

I wouldn't go any narrower.

would it be unsafe to mount a 30 series for the rear 11'' wheel? i need the most clearance i can get to fit some +0 offset and a light pull + camber.

ugh. Speaking of ST115, I wanted some 225/35/19 and 235/35/19 ST115 for 19x8.5/9.5.   Per your recommendation I checked Discount Tire.  They had stock 2 weeks ago.  Discount Tire direct is now sold out of 235/35/19 ST115 :(

I like the amount of stretch on for that 245/35/19 on that 10. Do you think the 235/35/19 on the 10 will be pushing it? Sorry to be a pain, you wouldn't happen to have a centered pic showing both inner and outer lips would you? Similar to the following pic.

st115's were almost 2 sizes OVER rated..
for example, a 245/35 in a st115 was the same width(tire tread)
as a current FK452 225/35.
so in a sense, u would be running a 215/35 on a 10" wide rim, and i don't
think its safe. why are u stretching so much? do u need to stretch it to
make it clear your fenders?

Sorry I don't have any good pics of the 245s on the wheels off the car. I should have taken some when I first had them mounted. Here are a few more pics for the benefit of ST115 fans. 235 ST115 on 10" would be hardcore.  With the amount of camber you have, you will be riding on the sidewall due in part to the tread design.   I had 225 ST115 on 9.5 and it was extreme IMO.  You should sell your 235 to me :D

make it clear your fenders?[/quote]Yea, from experience I've realized that the FK452's seem to run a size or 2 larger than the ST115's for the same designated size. I need to stretch it just a tad more to clear my rear fenders where its not possible to pull, and I'm maxed on camber at -7.5 degrees. On big bumps or when I have rear passengers, the corner of the tread is rubbing the very tip of the rear bumper where it connects to the rear fender. I'm currently on 235/35/19 FK452's on 19x10's here:

And I would like to achieve the same stretch as you by going with a 245/35/19 ST115 for clearance purposes like in the following pic, but I know your wheels are a half inch wider in 19x10.5 for 245/35/19 ST115:

So to achieve the exact same stretch as you, I was wondering if the 235/35/19 ST115 on the 19x10 might either be the same as a 19x10.5 with 245/35/19 ST115 or more stretched.

We have the two sizes around what you have.   225 on 9.5 and 245 on 10.5"   
 
It's going to be a big stretch thats for sure.  I recommend against it with a lot of neg camber.

I actually only got 1 235/35/19 to replace a 225/35/19 FK452 that had inner sidewall separation, but I'll eventually get the other side when my other 225/35/19 FK452 fails on me. Thanks for the pics. This makes this thread even more worthwhile and can be used as reference. After seeing that 1st pic of the 245/35/19 ST115 on the 19x10, I see what you mean about riding on the inner sidewall on a 235/35/19 on 19x10 with camber. I guess I'll stick with my order for my 245/35/19 ST115's for my 19x10's.
