question about running mismatched pairs of tires?

a fellow listmember is selling a set of wheels and tires with 245/35/20 falken ST115's in the front, and 275/35/20 falken FK451's in the rear. the reason it's like this is because you cannot get ether tire in the other size... ie. the ST115 dosen't come in a 275, and vice versa with the FK451.

the wheels are very expensive, and it would be awhile before i could afford new tires... will running this sort of setup cause any issues i should be aware of? 

this is meant for a 99 gs400... thanks in advance.

wont be much of a problem as logn as both rears are the same and both fronts are the same. go for it.

if its directional, make sure they are runnin in the recommended direction. it will tear itself apart eventually even with perfect allignment

i guess my concerns are from others telling me different traction ratings/characteristics of 2 different types of tire could cause some hazardous handling/traction issues?

are you going to be autocrossing or anything like that? do you drive very aggressive?

Think about it, you are using 2 different sizes anyways (front and rear). Even with matching brand/model, the 2 tire would act differently from each other. Theres also a lot of factors that affect tire performance. Like weight issues, front and rear traction will also not act the same since the front of the car will weight differently than the rear. Even the simple fact of steering, will traction be the same if the rear wheels stay straight and the front turns? That's why on a race car you have an infinite number of adjustments to the suspension, because it's easier than trying to find the right tire compound that will work on different race courses. 

On a regular street car on regular street tire compound, tire are meant to be some what "universal". Just because there are not suspension adjustment or a predictable road surface. Another thing, VIP IS NOT ABOUT GOING FAST. How the hell are people going to notice your ride?

If you're not doing track events, and you don't have a mechanical LSD you can run 4 different tires if you WANTED to, the most you'd experience is a pull to 1 side. With the same tire on each side there's no issue at running different tires between front and rear. I never have the same tires front and rear, right now I have Advan Neova AD07's on rear and Bridgestone Potenza's on front, drifty happiness all the way home.

perhaps he should be concerned since most drift cars are kinda beat up in one way or another, gosh now it all makes sense its because you don't use 4 of the same rims or tires! :D just kiddin but I had to do it.
