Hi, Interested and need help :)

Hi There,

I recently found this site (through a friend) and am really interested in getting information on older style Toyota Sedans. A Toyota Corona 1983 Sedan. I don't know wether you guys with laugh or not. But I really want to put some work into it. 

I don't know if it's even possible to acquire the needed parts?
However, I'm living in Australia and don't know of many places that do this kind of work.

Really sorry if this isn't the right forum to post in, If someone can point me in the right direct, I'd appreciate it very much.

How much would you be willing to spend on this project? Because wheels alone would cost alot more than the car is worth. To get a car which is so old to look 'vip style' you would need to go the full 9 yards - slammed, kitted, wheels, interior, and this is likely to get very expensive.
 
On top of that you would be breaking new ground completely; i've never seen a car that old done in vipstyle... 
 
HOWEVER! I have always felt that the Corona would be PERFECT for Yankee style modding. Think clean lines, no kit, rear spoiler used as front lip, 14x9 deep lipped wheels, and slammed all the way down.

Agreed, although I usually see the rear spoilers used as a rear diffuser...haha, but I think that's what you meant to say.  But yes..yankee it out..seriously.  Here's some inspiration:

Totally love the sytle, very unique. 

If anyone can give me some prices to start with, and perhaps some rim styles (That are available in AUS).

Also, Some places that can do this type of custom work. (In AUS please).

Edit: I'm a fan of kits...But don't know if there are any similar to Yankee Sytle. 
If the rear spoiler idea works out cheaper, I'd go that way.

yeah most of those real short sharp front lips are actually rear spoilers. not sure of any specific spoilers that are best suited to that, but im not too sure yankee style is a very "store bought" direction to take a car. get good with sheet metal, bondo, rivets, welding, cutting, and finding amazing used wheels online.

Yes, it is very much a custom style. In fact, most places in aus would not even be able to comprehend the style, so its not much use trying to get someone to do it here.
Even fitting low offset wheels to a vipcar is enough to confuse the hell out of the tyre places around here. In the end i chose to do it myself
 
 
Now, with regards to doing your car vip style, i would think 10-15k would get your corona looking good, but it would be a big gamble since nobody knows what that car will look like with vip styling. Compare that to buying a Q45 or Celsior for around 7-10k, then you can get away with just wheels/coilovers and you will have spent less than you would on the crown, with the same net result (mad attention and people scratching their heads trying to figure out what makes it so 'different')
 
 
But i would really recommend Yankee if you have your heart set on that crown. I have no idea how much it would cost to go Yankee style, but probably cheaper than VIP because you are keeping the original body lines and not trying to make lamb out of mutton. 
 
Wheels wont be very cheap, because they can NOT be bought from a shop here. You will need to buy from Japan, probably from auctions. You want to have 14x8 or 14x9 with 175/55 & 195/55 or similar tyres (Yes, the wheel shop will tell you they dont fit, you may even need to go to a few different places before you find one that agrees to do it). 
 
Ride height must be ridiculously low, so that the 14s will fill out the arches properly - not sure what suspension the 83 crown has, but if it has a live rear axle, you wont get camber like these guys do. It would be custom suspension, maybe even just cut springs... The ride height is VERY important, so dont just take it to a shop and say "lower it". You need a specific height (depending on the wheels etc), so the fender almost touches the wheel, but doesnt.
 
The kit/spoiler etc should come last. Just get wheels and suspension and then you can concentrate on the details like that.

The prices you have given are way outside what I had in mind. 
I think I'll only be able to run with springs and rims at this stage. 
Don't really have a big budget, yet.

Thats taking into account rims, suspension, kit, paint/bodymods, interior work. With a car that old wheels and suspension wouldnt look right.
 
But Yankee style would be good. Been toying with htat idea myself...
 

Edit: But yes, neither Vip or even Yankee are going to be cheap. Its not like walking into Tempe Tyres and getting cheap set of chromies; it will take money, and patience, and lots of research/DIY. No shops in australia that do this sorta stuff (that I am aware of)

Yah, he's located in Florida and to my knowledge it didn't sell yet.  Selling such a unique car can be a challenge.  The right buyer has to appear.  I went through a similar trial...haha.
