"lowering springs" are a joke, you mind as well keep it stock. Cutting them is even worse, you lose the spring's integrity and driving around on stock struts with 1.5" of strut travel is an absolute joke. You will either bust your struts real fast or end up bending your wheels on a small bump. Not to mention how horrible your ride will be.
Many people convince themselves that lowering springs are enough because it is the cheapest and fastest way to go, only to be disappointed when installed.
there are only TWO ways to get that proper drop, any other way and your wasting your time and money. Take it from someone who's been there and done that. Do it right the first time because your actually saving yourself money and time by doing it right the first time.
1- quality 2 way fully adjustable coilovers, FULLY ADJUSTABLE is the ONLY way to go when it comes to coilovers.
2- quality Air bag system.
believe me on this, THERE'S NO OTHER WAY TO DO IT.
you need to maintain 2 things when you lower your car, one is complete height control and 2nd is strut strength and integrity, which is atained by a lengthy strut travel and thicker than standard strut rods, especially in the front.

i cut my springs a decade ago on my sedan. it rode terribly. i definetly would not recommend it. It cut of 1 turn and it made a noticible difference in ride quality.
IMO lowering springs try their best to maintain similar spring ratios to the stock counterparts at the lowered ride height. I wouldn't count them out yet. Just buy them from quality manufacturers.

I cut a coil and a half off my fronts as a temporary solution. Rides the same IMO, but its a acura. Just wanted it lower till I got my air suspension fully pieced together. Good for a temporary solution of you really want to go lower in the mean while. But definitely not for the long run.

So that's where you been?
Did you get your air sus?
I mean Damn you already ride like you on bags anyways! hahahaha!

Don't cut your springs.I regret it.I had mines cut because I was tired of riding high and have people say "what you doin driving your grandmas car".I had 2.5 coils cut and it dropped it about 2.5-3 inches.it looks damn good but it rides like sh*t.I had it done temporary until I get my bags which should be in a couple of months.I barely drive my gs,and sometimes I don't want to because of the ride.just say no to cut springs.

Ive cut springs several times, with great results, ....and a few with poor results.
It depends on the type of springs, and the way there designed to fit in there perch.

werd... its hit or miss sometimes, just save up for full suspension....

Even w/ lowering springs, you need to uprgrade to a shock/strut that can handle a stiffer rate.
Cutting a spring raises its spring rate geometrically. That's why ghetto rides on cut springs just bounce around on the bumpstops. Blown shocks, no travel--just badness.
Lowering springs work nicely on a independent setup. On struts, sometimes you lose a TON of travel just by lowering a car an inch-1.5". Depends on the car, though.
There are definitely good lowering springs out there--you just need to research.

well i was thinking what if you cut a (1-2 inch) section out of the strut rod, welded it back together and grinded it down smooth and went with cut springs? has that ever been done and if it hasnt do you think it will keep close to stock ride? just a random thought......

Yea, I wouldn't count them out just yet. My Y33 IMPUL lowering springs are very comfortable, give the drop I like, and now with cambered in wheels they give an achievable drop that you would think only coilovers or air would give.

i was on cut springs before, yes it didn't ride too good but its another cheap alternative to get ure car slam imo, after trial and error so far i discovered that coilover is still the best. Personally i haven't tried air, but i've heard people keep saying no regrets, so it should b good. good luck~
