a negative degree of camber = 5mm more clearance ?
what you guys think ? I have about a -1.5 degree of camber at the back.
right now I'm on 255/35/20 20x9.5 +15
my new wheels will have
13mm more poke. 6mm of it will stretch my current 255 35 20 tires, but another 7mm of it will be from the offset.
what do you guys think ? The wheel right now are sitting just about in line with the quarter fender. It does not poke past the quarter fender.
Am I gonna have to camber it like crazy to absorb about
13mm (a half inch) of more poke ?

wow
you might have a slight camber in the rear. YOu have simular specs as me. Mine since the drop has a slight camber. Good looking car though. What are you dropped on?

I know I have a slight camber, but that was not the point for this posting.
anyhow, it's dropped on Algernon 2 way adjustable full tap coilovers. I need to know how much more camber I need to accommodate 13mm of more poke.

What are your new rims offset specs? I have 19x10.5 -1 and I run -3.0 offset, still slightly pokes (When I get coilovers I'll probably go -3.5 to -4.0). I think the limit for safety and wear sake is -5. If you provide your wheel specs other's with similiar specs will chime in.

Yes I think we may need the exact wheel specs plus tire size to help, BUT more than likely your going to just have to wait to put the wheels on and go from there. Doing it on paper first is good but it only gives you a baseline to go from, as no two cars are identically the same. I mean we are talking about MMs here, which is a very fine measurement.
On a side note, are you getting rid of your wheels that are on now? Ive always loved the way those HRRs look and I think they would look good(for now at least) on my black Y34.
Cheers

yeah I'll be sellin my hr3 so you'll have first dibs ok ?
I guess I'll just have to wait it out and see what happens. the new wheel specs will be 20x10 +8

I don't think you will have to camber more than a degree or so..if that. especially of your tires stretch more. I would be more concerned on the inner fender and having the ark raised or have the fenders radiused.
Car looks Clean love the autocoture kit...I was actually considering that kit for my Qt. There is something about Y33's that just make them timeless..I dont get tired of looking at them..
Just so you know
I have about 5 degrees of cameber on a 10.5-8 and it poked out quite a bit..this is why I had to pull my fender because I did not want more camber than that.

what was your net offset (after spacers) when you had your 20 ? and size tire? I forget

20x9.+40 with a 25 mm spacer put me at +15. No rubbing issues what so ever on a 225/35/20 tire. did not even have to roll the fenders at this time.
I am 2.5" down on the rear and 2" down in the front..from the top of the coilovers if that helps.

great effort but it really has nothing much of a true VIP look.
the style of the wheel is all wrong for the car, the wheels are all wrong period.
but hey if that is the look u wnat then I say thumbs up.
it kinda looks like its lacking that aggressive fitment we see so much on this car .
those 20's look kinda dub styled , maybe better for a mercedes.

Yeah just about.. I believe the stock adjustment gives you 4.7-5 degress somewhere along those lines.. but for shows I will slamm it all the way down and will expect about 6-6.5 degrees..front I think I am about 3-3.5 degrees

I actually thought the new trend of VIP was going concave and that the older style is Deep Dish . I think Qoozy's car is definately VIP. AutoCouture kit, Algernon coilovers, and concave wheels....COME ON!!! I have and love my deep dish, but I also like the newer concave style rims too. Besides, Qoozy's changing them out with new rims.

would a -3 camber be considered extreme?
I'm trying to avoid the tires riding on it's shoulder corner.

[QUOTE=QoozyFoozy;79919]would a -3 camber be considered extreme?
I consider -3 mild, Zion has -5 camber, looks more extreme (sooo tight). Trying to minimize wear, the treadblocks are slightly cupped and wear is moderate. I still need to re-align to get it perfect. With coilovers I might try -4 or -4.5.

make sure your tires are properly inflated all the time and keep your alignment up toe more than any thing and you should be cool with -3. Also remember you can always flip your tires to get double the life but be on top of your tire wear so you know when to flip them.

Normally I run 36psi, what is everyone running? Flip the tires......did that recently due to first alignment (Pre: RUCAs, Toe Arms, and Tension Rods) they aligned it for 2002 Q45 (have a 2001 Q45T) :dunno:.

I asked about psi a while back and lots of folks said about 40psi when running streched tires.
I have had mine at 40psi ever since and I seem to be getting pretty good tread wear.

To answer the original question... I doubt anyone has had access to an alignment jig as they dialled in more camber to see the precise camber/clearance ratio
But this is something that can be approximately worked out with a bit of highschool maths...
I say approximately because of the complicated multilink suspension system, which pivots on several axis' when you camber.
But for simplicity's sake, we can say camber on the rear is pivoting on the lower control arm which is a couple of inches below the wheel bearing.
Then we can use trigonometry since we know the diameter of the wheel (usually 21" at the lip for a 20" wheel), so the edge of the wheel will be 12.5" (half the diameter + 2"), or 317.5mm
1 deg is bugger all, so it wont make much difference if we assume that to be the hypotenuse or adjacent side of the triangle, so i am going to say its the adjacent.
x = 317.5 * Sin(1)
= 5.5mm, give or take

LoL, i dont think i am any smarter than anyone else, but i do like being able to work stuff out with maths.
Btw qoozyfoozy, like i said this is only an approximation since i am basing it on theory, not actual practice. But I am pretty confident in the numbers, so -1 deg = about 5mm.
