MY 98 L-sportline LS400 now with easy street air suspension anc digital controller
Well i installed my 5 gallon flat black tank , 380 chrome vair compressor ,1/4 inch lines ,water trap and digital display this weekend.
Right now i just dropped off the car at a local air suspension shop to build the shocks as i have no expertise in that department. It all fit in the trunk as my gas tank is located between my rear shock and has a large enough opening above it to fit the air tank as i no longer have a sub woofer to block it on the parcel shelf. If you own an LS400 this is the perfect spot to not loose any room.
I used to stand and look at the car and say to myself "man this is my car ".
Now i say " OMG ,damn this is mine. I can't believe I am driving this car of my dreams ". I always wanted a big body V8 slammed , I never expected to have a car so perfect to what i wanted. Just have my fender flares to install and my LED mirror caps to call it a day. Other than that i may add a double din so i can get my XM , nav, screen, blue tooth and ipod and remove the other stand alones to clean up the dash.
This is not a kit it had to be welded and cut to put together.
Right now i still have to adjust the dampening on the shocks to set it up right as it feels really jittery out back. Hopefully soon it will be nicely set up.
It has a full digital controller that will drop the car to the floor at the touch of a button. When i remote start it from the alarm it will stand up 3 seconds after . It takes 2 second to get to ride height and the compressor will not even have to turn on to refill the tank. So right now i can get it to open and close the windows from the alarm remote and start the car which automatically activates the controller to get up. The car looks massively long when it is laid out. I love it as when i hit big bumps my rims are no longer banging and possible bending as the suspension just takes them in.
I forgot to mention I am riding on 20X9.5 rims out back on 275/30-20 rubber so it has no VIP stretch and the rear fenders have not been rolled. The rear do not rub in any way against the frame and the pic way above shows how far it moves away from the lip of the wheel well.
All 4 wheels are resting against the body of the car , so when it is down i don't even need a parking brake on a hill.
I already have a 15mm spacer up front just to fit the fronts over the brakes.
The front fenders are also rolled to accept the 255 tires .
The rears i might put a spacer on later but i am in no rush as it is well balanced . It would look nice but i am not a big fan of spacers ,it was the only practical way of adding the wheels on my car.
When i put my stock 16's or my SC430 18's on for winter it WILL drop it lower but just fitting these this easily is amazing to me.

I told you you'd love that controller! Seems to be the Easystreet product I sell the most of. Looks sick man, that's the thing I love about those struts is the fact you can completely control how flat out you want to make it since you can alter the lower bracket height to have the slammed height be whatever you want. If you modify your upper fender walls (ei:tub them, you could make the whole car completely sit on the ground. Haha, not that you'd want to do that, but yeah.
He knows his wheel fitment isn't up to par, I'm sure he'll sort that out later.
BTW, I'm finishing up a new GS with this same set-up also running 20's but low offset. I'll post up some pics later when it's pau (finished).

Right now i couldn't care less about the rears not being pushed out much but i may add a 15mm spacer to the back but if i can buy a barrel from another wheel company and bolt my faces to them i would get a lower disk fitments and a 12 inch rear as it will fit with barely any mods. Besides i still have my fender flares to put on.
The controller is good but not perfect as it never seems to get the ride height set properly . It always is too low and tells me there is a leak but when i do it manually there is no leak . It also seems to show the pressures i set it to on auto ride height but the second i tap any of the buttons it shows the actual pressures and they are a good 20 psi off on some corners.
Right now i have an issue with the shop who welded the struts as the made the sleeves for the kit (macpherson even though i have double wishbone). The welded the sleeves too close to the dampening adjustment knob so i can't turn them , they have to fix that . Also the rears are set about 2 inches too short . So when i try and get it to the right height it has to run at 120 psi on the sleeves which is rock hard compared to the front bellows at about 80psi for the same height.
I spent $1000 to have the shocks welded and installed as i did the rest just so i would not have these type of newbie screw ups. Instead i wasted a ton of money and it was not done properly.

Half the problems you're having right now were a direct cause of their doing. When you get it sorted out I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. Right now the controller isn't sure what to think because of the way it's set up. I would have measured and marked them before taking them to get welded. That way it's not them guessing what's right.

I never installed air suspension before and wanted pros to do it , why in the world would they not measure for proper ride heights before welding with the same bag pressures is beyond me , If it try and balance the pressures with height the rears sleeves at 80psi will have the back about 3 inches too low to drive properly.
It needs more rear height to be comfortable. Then i know it will be a great ride ,i will be happy with.

Haha, yah, that's what I can't figure out? Is the shop you took it to known for this type of fabrication, dealing with airsus? Obviously they cut the rear lower sleeve too much.. or in your case also put it down so far that you couldn't access the damping adjustment knobs. I mean making that accessible is common sense! I think once that is sorted you'll be much happier and you won't have to drive with so much pressure in the rear bags and yes, you'll like the ride much better.

Thanks guys , I love the wheels so much i have 2 sets since they stopped making them 8 years ago.
Actually the shop is called AAC altered altitude customs. You know on easy-streets website has a jumping truck video , well that is theirs . This is all they do beside hydraulics and have been at the game for years . They came highly recommended by many people in the game locally. This truly is not what i expected to have to deal with.
I guess i set my expectations to high for their work since i paid a grand to have them waste a week doing nothing with my stock shocks when they where supposed to match them for heights as well as making the upper strut mounts by making a template then cutting/drilling it out of the plate, 3 hours
Insert bolts/studs. 20 seconds
Put together the shock bags and bellows 30 minutes
Remove ,JIC coilovers suspension 1 hour and that is pushing it (as i already remove all the trunk lining and rear seat when i dropped it off).
Run lines to the wheel wells through a grommet already waiting for them to use ,as i already mounted the compressor, tank , water trap, valves, ecu and power . Also already pressure tested the system up to the valves before dropping it off.
Weld on a set of lower shock eyes with urethane bushings and sleeves for the bolts.
Install the shocks and give the car back.
Took 3 days Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday.
The sleeves are done wrong , the bolts for the lower shock mount sound loose and are rattling ,they keep saying it is the shocks themselves and easy street is known for that but i can't see how it is since it is too high pitched a rattle to come from inside a shock. Sounds like some more BS answers to me.
As much as i am bitching i love the setup up just hope i can save some people the trouble of my headaches since i thought it was way more complicated but ended up being real simple. If i had gotten easy streets shocks that come with an eye already welded and bushing it would have been much faster and simpler as i would have not had to weld anything and done it in my driveway .
Just to remember i have a Macpherson strut kit looks like this.
should have gotten these for the rears instead
Oh well you live and learn , i have to go back this week and get it fixed.

Looks the same to me in the straight rear shot..maybe it's just the angle of the other pics?
As far as the shop..man, wtf? Sounds like it was more of a ho-hum for them so they treated it as such..kind of crappy service if you ask me. Yah, the whole thing is really easy to set up.

wow that sucks about the install.
us southern californians are lucky to have Universal Air and Autofashion for airrunner.
but yeah, your back is taking a but dive and the wheels need some major lip. Even it out, get some lip-tsuraichi goin and you will be up to par with BigSteve.

I never aimed for the VIP look just the things i always liked moved it towards that style.
I want a mild wide body but that is very far in the future if ever and for that i will worry about new wheels. Until then i will be running my first love my O.Z. Opera II's .
Being in Toronto Canada has limits as to what is available to try out and see if it will fit or not . I wish i could reference something that would say i need a specific wheel with a bolt pattern diameter being the same. I also wish i could use some of my dead barrels to widen the rears by 3 inches also.

In the pics you can only see my right rear tire.
Unless you are comparing it to my sig which has my car on JIC's and no air suspension which is from a while ago.

The easy street controller is a pos I've read so many horror stories from people that used it. A quick question, Why did you not use sleeve bags in the front? It looks as if the front is not at the lowest point where the suspension bottoms out, the UCA.

What issues have you heard about the easy street controller?
Sleeves use more pressure to get the same height and don;t have as much air to cushion the ride. I basically was sent parts that would fit. If i could choose it over i would have used bags all around instead of sleeves for the level of comfort.

Many who hasn't mostly from truck guys. Sure sleeve use more pressure but sleeves ride fine at 140psi or well at least mine did. I had the same weld together easy street stuff as you had on my 95ls, except all the bags were sleeve struts.

I haven't heard of any major issues with the controllers. Care to elaborate? I'd like to hear your input.

Its in the very first shot, but after looking a bit more I see it may be the shadowing on the driver side along with the angle. I noticed I can see the passenger side mirror ever so slightly more than the other so It must just be the angle of the shot is slightly off.

that's cool.
but IMO, Your already in the full blown VIP range, mind as well finish it out.
U have the body kit, the air sus, the ucf20 platform. All u need to do is round off the edges, such as leveling out the drop and well filling -fitting wheels.
I agree OZ opera's are nice, one of the most OG dish wheels of all time, but there are other's that are very similar. My brother had some 18" oz opera II but man they were heavy.

Update :
The flares are only 1 inch wide just to tuck it a bit and allow me to ad the rear spacers to give it a wider and more aggressive stance.
It seems i will have to get longer rear struts as i need an inch to 2 more height to be in a better pressure range to drive.
I have retuned the air suspension controller and it is working better to level and get the auto height right . Sometimes it does not seem to get the front up but only to 49 lbs instead of the 82 i have preset.

The other LS appeals to the DUB style guys and younger kids , my car is more for the older crowd and the VIP enthusiasts.
We refer to them as Ying and Yang ,so similar but totally different in every way. Other than being dumped on 20's.

The other LS appeals to the DUB style guys and younger kids , my car is more for the older crowd and the VIP enthusiasts.

so what'd you end up spending on the full Easy Street setup for a reference for people look at UAS.

Very nice job!
I wouldn't even bother with the flares as the body looks really nice. Just cut the lip on the fenders and space the wheels out. Bolt on spacers are safe just torque to spec. Maybe switch to smaller tires if you need the fender clearance. I'm sure you'll have the ride height sorted out soon. Good luck!

Thanks guys .
The flares are actually to round out the edge of the wheel well when i pull them out some more. If i get them done properly they will almost be invisible as it is following the lines not disrupting them.
The complete setup up was for the shocks and controller ,tanks and pump with lines . So everything needed to install it but the cutting and welding costs were $2000 then another $1000 for install. It was worth it but still needs to get better imo.
When i have it tweaked to be a true luxury ride with some sport i will post back on how it can be done for others.

Looking good... Man that setup only cost $2000?! Is that with the digital controller?
And that install price is really good.
And yes Antbo that girl has great looking legs...any more shot of her? LOL
Pssst. Buy my wheels if you want to fill out those flares that you are buying. hint hint

Thanks again , There are more shots of her but i am not sure it is work safe LOL.
Actually i got it for less than $2000 shipped and taxed over the border. I have been calling them for the past 8 months so they know me enough to throw me a deal i guess. It did include the digital controller for that price.
This is the kit I have which retails for $1,525.00 plus a crafter's package for MCpherson struts ( all though i have conventional suspension, which is independent double wishbone )front and rear. The shocks are 675 front and 605 for the rear. Total 2800 and i paid about half that. I also have a business so that might be part of the discount plus i received a set of prototype shocks instead since i wanted the new ones they have.
The install was expensive as i mounted all the tanks lines wiring and valves all they did was weld the shocks and cut out the upper mounts for $1000 which i know i could have done easy enough.
Now that i am looking at it i think they might have given me the wrong prices as what i paid was dirt cheap compared to msrp.
I would buy your wheels but i have a thing for 20's never mind i have way too many tires and spare rims for them.

As well as i mentioned before the front is up because the front tire is a 255/35-20 instead of a 245/35-20. Also the rear wheels have a much lower overhang on the wells so it also adds to the visual discrepancy. There is literally 3/4 inch in difference which is totally made by the tire diameter being bigger.
It will get down soon enough ,it is just way easier to lay frame out back than it is in the front just by the cars natural suspension angles.

OK , here is an update 4 months later on my easy street suspension and auto pilot set up.
The controller is not a bad unit except it is way to bulky for my tastes. It looses the front ride height settings and i have to manually raise the front every single time while the rears get up normally. I kept tuning it every 3 weeks to only last for a week before not coming close. The display shows what i want them at but when i revert to manual they are way below the set psi and still won't raise it when i switch back to auto.
The shocks and bags are a crafters kit and the shop i used did a poor job installing them . They were supposed to measure everything before install but being lazy they waited 2 weeks and did nothing by the time i brought the car and then started to compare it to the stock suspension i left to make sure what was needed and i had the right stuff.
It seems i have rear shocks that are too short and need to have 115 psi to get to a proper ride height. I also have one rear shock that is binding it is sooooo stiff it has cracked the right rear rim 3 times to the point where it is not salvageable. It has also broken the mount on the hub and destroyed the bearing on the same corner.
Easy street has said to take it back to the shop to have them look at it but i do not want them looking at my car never mind touching it again. Why you might ask ? Well lets see , they installed all 4 collars in teh wrong positions so i could not adjust and of the shocks then when i found out after ( like they didn't know already) instead of fixing it properly and rewelding it they took a grinder and made the openings bigger. Then i go to switch my rims last week and the shop i am at can't get my wheel back on . I take a look and the nut and studs are cross threaded. I find out they stupid jackasses broke 2 studs and instead of telling me and replacing them they go a nissan stud and nut which does not even match the tool i have ( did they think i would not figure out there was a problem? with the wrong thread pitch and installed it by grinding the knurl that fits the hub and welding blobs of metal to hold it in , which totally destroyed the hub a set of nuts and the rest of studs of garbage. Yah , i think i will not be going to them anytime soon except to get my money to replace the parts they damaged . Besides it is not much for them since they charged me $1000 to completely fuck up the job.
Just for more proof the shock is binding the rear corner will not deflate unless i keep pressing the release valve while the other 3 are already down. Oh and just to add some more misery to the situation i have buckled my roof (guess where?) you got it , the right rear corner !!!!!!!!!!
So when i have time i will be contacting Cory or Jeremy from easy street again to get some help with this as they have been really nice so far but even my wife says i wasted my money on this as it rides like shit.

man that really does suck. hopefully you can get something back, but when i worked at a suspension shop we fixed a lot of hack jobs where the customer had to take a loss. car LOOKS great, hope it works out for ya.

I guess it's better to live and learn, rather than not live at all. So what are your plans next? Who persuaded u to go with easy street? For the price you paid, UAS sounds about the same.

I like the easy street system it is the install or lack there of that screwed this for me. If i could do it again i would order easy streets products again as i know exactly what i need and how to do it with no problem.
No one persuaded me to go with them just UAS was just that too universal for my liking with not as much options.

I kept you up to speed on CL PD. Just working out some kinks.
I also had a pressure sensor blow the other day where it was leaking air thought the back of the honeywell sensors where the wires connect. Jeremy over at easy street is sending me a new one as well as a controller head as it keeps turning on and off as the ethernet wire keeps sliping out .
I get these damn rear struts fixed and i think i will be heaven.

dude i'm sorry about everything man..the shop really messed up ur ride..why do u say universal air is too "universal" for you? i might think it would be ur best bet..even if u just do the rears. my ucf 20 is on kyb struts and universal air and i love it. u can redo the rears w/ universal air bags and kyb shocks for about 600 bucks. maybe even cheaper because of ur shipping (I live in hawaii) and if u can find jus a pair of rear shocks for sale. if ur interested kind of , then pm me. i can show u pics of how it sits if u want..
