Suicide Doors: VIP or not

I'm thinking of putting suicide doors on a Y33 Infiniti. What is your guys take on this, VIP or not. Some feel yeah it is, like the Bently and such cars like that and others feel it's more of a gangster/ mafia style on a car.

As long as the rest of your car HAS the VIPstyle to it shouldnt hurt........

When I first wanted to do VIP I always wanted
to do sucicide doors! I thought it would give the car that old classy
60s style to it, we already have curtains like they did!

I'm honestly contemplating it on the Jag, but I need to look at the back of the rear door jams to see if it's feasible to be done cleanly.  I want it to appear and operate like factory if I do it.   The rear doors on my Vanden Plas are longer too, so I'm not sure how well the aftermarket hinges would hold up with the stretched body.  The doors aren't light...haha.

Do it in the rear only and make sure it stays on the VIP format and I think it would be killer.

Oh my god no...the pic in my sig is my personal concept art for my plans...so I think it'll be okay..haha.  Lambo doors belong on Lamborghini's.

I'd say do it, the doors look awesome and are different.  I've always loved how they look on the new british cars and would like to do that one day.  do it, DO IT:thumbsup:

if the car is long and kinda boxy.  I think it would look good.  What kit are you going with?

Does it matter if it's VIP or not? It is your car, do what you want with it. In terms of looking good or not, I think it will look good as long as it's done up right, and looks stock.

do it first, then i'll tell you if i dig it haha...for some reason, it looks really nice on black cars...kinda like how the mode parfume kit looks nice on black cars verse white cars...

Speaking for my self and possibly others, I would say yes. If you want a VIP car with suicides well, then it should look VIP. I think some just relate mods like this to the Lambo doors that always seem to make the car stray away from VIP and more toward DUB. If you want a VIP car with suicide doors it should look VIP.:biggthumpup: 
  
 I look at it like this, suicide doors have always been a factory look for clasic and antique [B]LUXURY[/B]. Some people dont realize but Lincoln wasnt even the first to do this and it was done way before the Conti's that people usualy associate them with. I feel suicides should be right at home with VIP enthusiast as it is also Luxury and class that this happens to be all about.

That beeing said imagine a nice 60 something Continetal or a 40 something Dick Tracy Mercury with all the standards of a VIP car ( KNOWING ITS NOT ) and its doors open sitting right next to a tight brand new LS460, both black , both on the ground, both with perfect fitment, both with suicudes.


I think that makes me feel warm inside.. Anyone else?

Haha, that's why I feel it should look right at home on my stretch jag.  Some of the old Jags had suicide doors too like this early 30's SS:

They even make a kit for my model...which makes me feel a little bit better, but I wonder if it's even any different than the other kits and they just list it that way.  I'll have to call them I guess.

WOW, I never knew that existed! Cool, allot of other European cars from that era have suicide fronts.

As far as kits to my understanding they are all pretty much universal, and may as well be as they will need so much extra work to fit.

It's VIP alright but DON'T shave door handles and put poppers because that's when it stops being VIP and is now some ricey DUBbish twisted thing hahahahaahha :smiley-rofl:

I dunno, on some cars, shaved suicide doors could be cool.

Just been a little scared, because I havent had the chance to see other cars in person whom have done it. If I did go w/ it I would be buying the kit and installing myself.
I think I know someone in who ownes a shop in SD california who sells the complete kit...

That's just it..I'd want it to be like that.  Maybe at first just install it..then figure out how I'd go about the moving of the handle..I'm not worried about the moving part, just the"moving parts"...haha.  Like I said..I want it to operate like it was meant to be there.  The bodywork is easy.

On the real, I think it would look nice if done right. If they doin lambo like razy in japan, do suicide. Just show us the steps you gonna take and lets see if it works

Def no Lambo.. I've always liked the idea of suicide doors and also if I do make it happen, it'll be like  it came from factory i.e. relocated handles and two hinge design if possible.

I would rock it on a Y33, with Rolls-Royce Phantom door handles.

I dont know, the guy I talked to that did the Lincoln LS says and Im not sure if hes lying but he says it cost around 5,000 after all was said and done with it. And at that with some of his close ups I got I still didnt see that great of a job. 


I bet a hot rod shop could do it real cheap comeing to think about it but a shop like ones we would be more familliar with for our cars would probably cost us.

I was refering to the door handles. Ive seen damaged Phantom grills go for over $6000 alone. Finding the handles alone is impossible. You would have to get those at the dealer so expect to pay approx $3000 for those handles alone.
 
Suicide doors are not cheap to do like lambo doors. Ive been quoted from $3,000 to $8,000.

I think your thinking of V.I.P. and not vip (bippu).  Reguardless, I would like to see someone pull this mod off on a Q45 or a LS400/430.  I think the other platforms are too sporty for it to look right.
