Updated rear fender work.

Well guys little by little when I am finding the time I have been working on my rear fenders. 
I figured since I was going to have to have it done anyways might as well try to give it shot first.
 
I have been able to push back the fenders back quite a bit. Now you can see my wheel barrels and side wall of my tires...woo woo... I think I am actually doing a fair job at reworking the fenders back. here are some pics of my progress..let me know what you all think.. I know its still rough but hey its kinda fun working with the metal!

Fender work is looking pretty good Im no body man but it all looks straight...Yo Z the 470 looks menacing behind the Q bro nice shots...got any other shots of it?

what are you using to 'push' the arches back in? Rubber mallet or something?

Dont laugh to much but..a plank of wood wraped in a terry cloth.. beating it with a regular hammer. :dance:

Often the most basic tools work the best haha

Are you heating the arch at all w/ a heat gun to prevent cracking or anything?

Yeah I brought out the trusty old heat gun...hee hee heee.

Finished up my right side today. Its not as smooth as the left side because I had more dings on that fender from other fools opening there doors in parking lots and slamming my car. Now it will be time to have both sides smoothed out , try to define the flat line on the fender and then repaint the 1/4 panel along with the bottom moldings..

I can see what your talking about in this pic regarding the fender. It'll look good once you get in smoothed and painted. Did a lot better of a job then I could've done. :biggthumpup:

did u roll ur fenders with a baseball bat????

sorry zion but personally, that doesn't look good at all...you quarter panel looks like sandy beach...you really should be using a dolly and hammer...your quarters are already shot and going to need repaint and body filler anyway...the best you can hope for i think is to rework and define the stock body line and at least get the quarter panel to where you use one skim coat of bondo...
 
if you do decide to use a dolly and hammer, PM me, i'll give you some pointers so you don't stretch the metal...

Its cool mang..Not offense taken. I still think that for never working on fenders before I must say I am damn proud of what I did. It looks way better than before. I actuallly think I got a nice shape and will leave it to the body shop to make it just right. I really cant bring them back to factory lines as I wont be able to fit the wheels.

I agree with both of you..it's true they're not a pro looking job, but on the other hand, it's an impressive improvement considering you're not a bodyman Zion, and that you're making do with what you have at hand.

just thought of something at work today...do you have a slide hammer? try using that...
 
props for learning something new and i guess i do agree with you, it does look better than before...just gotta get those ripples out...
 
if you take it to a body man, they will smooth it out anyway...he/she will pretty much start from scratch...if you want to learn, then great!  but if you're only looking to make it better so the body labor will be less, just leave it alone...i think a body shop will quote you about 4 hrs labor on each side and that's being generous...not including paint, shop materials, etc.

Well the thing is was this. I know I am going to have to take it in, but there is something about me that always wants to try something and maybe do it my self if I can. The reason I am doing this is because even though we have a lot of great body shops..Fools don't understand what I mean when I try to explain it to them..and if they do understand they act stupid about it..Why this and why that..I would not do that to that car blah  blah blah..That shit pisses me off so I say to them fuck it then I 'll go somewhere else..And then I deal with the same garbage all over again..There are only a few places that I know that can do what I want but they charge and arm and a leg..MY Brother works at one of them and the other is owned by the same Owner..SO its kinda like They both charge the same but one more than the other cause its more of a custom shop while the other handles collision repair on Exotic cars...So in the mean time as I am saving for aero and paint I would like to shape these fenders enough so when I do take it in they understand and can see what I mean..In person although my right side is not as good as the left side, the fender  are starting to wrap around the wheel very snug and nice..I am honestly amazed...So that's where I am coming from.ITs not about saving money on labor its about having better prepared for the body man..:biggthumpup:

looks good though for a first time job.  I like the work you did.  So how about a how to of how you did it.  I rolled my fenders and smoothed out on the inside and resprayed the inner fender then rubber coated it again.  I then used a bottle jack and a small wood block to lightly to push my fenders out about 5mm to fit my meats.  So it can be done lightly just try doing it slowly.  I learned that trick from an old hot rod shop that did that to fit drag slicks on stock fenders.  Worked great let me get some pics. up and I iwll let you see what i am talking about.

Got some more work put itno them...now..Boy this has been an adventure..learning of the right side and applying to the leftside..hee hee hee..well I think I am just about as close to the tire as I possibly can..I will be needing some smaller tires for sure and maybe more camber...oh ohh ..
 
Well I have finally started looking into getting my moldings painted and what not...so hopefully soon I will have my fenders back to normal and my bottom moldings painted..here are some pics...

can't really tell the difference.. take some better shots from the bottom view.

the more finess you do ont he fender work = less stuff done in the shop, cause if the shop is just going to use body filler, they are going to put as much needed to make it smooth, if you dont want to strech the metal, use the off hammer and dolly technique where you have the dolly supporting a low spot as you tap on a high. hammer on dolly = streched metal. its all in the prep work for a good finish man. i take it your trying to make your fenders to have a nice flowing curve rather then a flat look ?
