window tint info.

FYI almost all of the VIP platform cars have internal antennas, gps, tire pressure sensors, etc. all internally mounted.  therefore these all have to be taken into consideration when tinting your vehicle.

standard tinting is dyed and will not interfere with these signals, however they are low quality, dont block out a lot of heat, dont block out 99% UV, and will eventually turn purple and bubble. expect to pay under $200

metallized/titanium tints will last the lifetime of the vehicle but WILL interfere with these receptions.  some titanium tints have the reflective look which IMO doesnt flow well with the trim of the vehicle.  these films block out double the standard heat and 99% UV. expect to pay between $200-$300

advanced films (ceramic/carbon) are the state of the art films that block out 99% UV and double the standard heat values while NOT interfering with any of your internal antennas.  dealer recommended. expect to pay over $300

if you DO have an external antenna, no navigation, and no tire pressure monitors than go with a metallic film that is nonreflective.

if you are planning on tinting your vehicle please message me with your make/model/year  and i will gladly give you the questions you should ask the shop you are getting it tinted from.  i have over 10 years experience in the field and have worked on almost every make/model there is.  dont underestimate window tint.  if done wrong, it can ruin the look of your vehicle and cause future problems with your car.

i have also worked with almost all of the brands and will steer you in the right direction for what you are looking for.

Also to add...if you have a Mercedes Benz W203 and are going to get it tinted, please note that you WILL get scratch lines on the tint if you don't add a protective mole skin layer to the inner window rubber liner. Thanks For The Link elpresidente. My LS400 For Some Odd Reason Is Scratchin My New Tint. And Im Starting To Have Bubbles After Only Having It For A Week. So Might Go Return My Car To Redo It. Use That To Make Sure It Doesnt Scratch My Tint Again.

NP, I forgot to add that they make kits for other cars too.

LOL, my home job of el-cheapo tint is still going strong almost 2 years after i did it with no bubbles, even though the back window is a jigsaw of about 6 pieces (which people cant tell until i point it out)... I only intended to have it on for 6 months, but I havent found a good replacement yet. 
 
Do you know any good sources/brands of the light green tint that you see on the Japanese vip cars?

i would stay away from johnson, it isnt one of the big brands out there.  3M, llumar, solargard, madico are the major ones out there.  we use 3M and llumar cause i think they are the BEST.  there are a couple of cars out there that need the moleskin.  dont buy it from that link, the shop that you go to should do it.  if they dont, they arent good.  the mercedes does need felt, your lexus doesnt.  you just need to clean your channels to get all the dust out of there.

almost all mercedes need the felt unless it is an 07 eclass.  no lexus needs felts.  the only toyota that needs it is the 06 and 06 only xb. tsx's, tl's, and 03 up accords need felts. no other cars that would be fixed up on here would need it but just ask.

i just retinted my car with 3M 50%.  50% is the lightest 3M we carry and it does not interfere with any of the internal signals.  i'll post up pics tomorrow.  the tint that was on there was greenish, reflective, and too dark.  well it was actually light but you couldnt see my curtains through it.

also all of the lexus LS's are very hard to tint, so make sure the shop you take it to knows how to do it.

Im not sure how much I have left from my tint but I will messure it and let you know. IT might be just enough to do your car..Are the windows big? I think I used about 20ft on my y33

Yea The Tinter Was Telling Me How Hard It Was To Tint A LS. Mostly Because Of The Back Windshield. The Rear Heaters For The Windshield Is Thick. We Will See What Happens When I Bring It Back.

the back window is the easy part.  tell him to clean it with alcohol/water/soap mix and steel wool 0000 grit.  the 4 doors on that vehicle have a black frit on the sides that is behind a tight rubber gasket.  make sure he covers the whole border because the rear windows roll down at an angle.

Ive got carbon tint 5% all around with a 50% titanium on the windshield. Takes care of all that texas heat.  My windshield tint does not interfere with my navigation or any of the other fuctions like temp, auto lights, auto wipers, etc...

good, its for certain vehicles.  put it this way, it can, and we have heard it all.  if you are in a low frequency area than it may nopt work at all.  if you are in a city than most likely it will work and you wont notice any effects.  but if you take it to the dealer and say it seems to not work sometimes, they will say "its the aftermarket tint"  and they wont even look at the car.  so it is best to just be safe.

I usually go to Socal three-four times a year so driving there is not a problem.

i'll post up pics of the new tint i put on my ride.  first i put ceramic 50% on it.  ceramic is the top of the line and it has a green hue to it.  after i was done i didnt like it.  lexus already has green glass and it turned out too shiny for me.  50% is even the lightest i carry, but against a black car it showed up too much.  so i opted for 3M carbon 50%.  the carbon is a little bluer and cancelled the green out, so the tint looks perfect.  just a very very light grey.
