Savings......for car parts!

How do you guys prioritize purchases?

I mean do you set money aside each paycheck then make your purchase?

What is the longest you saved and for what besides the car?

I am just curious b/c like mentioned before VIP is an expensive car hobby and not all of us have best paying jobs are the ability to just buy with out saving. BUt I know there is a few here that make high dollar purchases.

Me I usually try to save up until I have enough to buy what I want or find a means to obtain it used. I am impatient so it is hard to sit around waiting for money to stack up.

save a good portion of money to put down on your credit card for big purchases like wheels, kit, and suspension. you can get used suspension and wheels. but the kit normally should be new and be prepared to paint it. interior parts are easier to save up on. i wouldnt recomend putting all on credit unless you know you can afford it.

saving up half is a good way to get you used to saving, then when you put it on credit you will be used to puting monet aside. now just use it to pay off your debt.

I have not used a CC yet to purchase any mods for my car.. I just save up and buy when I have the money.. or when I have a closing oh a home and make a lot of bank real quick..thats why it has taken me what a year now..I use to use CC cards years ago but now just say NO to them..its not worth the interest you pay..regardless if you get it sooner..call me cheap but a penny saved is a penny earned.

My mom helped, instead of an inheritance, she's helping me financially through tough spots now, because she understands.

Otherwise, aside from food, movies, rent, and bills, the only thing I really save for is the car.
I plan a few months ahead to cut back on spending and plan how I'm going to pay for things.
I just use CC if I want to defer the payment to when the bill comes in a few weeks, or if I'm buying online. I always pay the full amount when it comes.

Me,I've been saving for my air suspension since early this year and I still don't have enough.I finally realized that its hard to go VIP with a low paying job.I have a cc but I leave the credit limit low so I don't f*ck myself up.so each pay check I try and save a little to reach my goals but there is always something that gets in my way to reach it.like an old car that breaks down every so often and of course bills and stuff.

I only Use CC's that have 0% INterest for a year. And that's not with high dollar purchases. Maybe couple hundred to a grands. then pay it off before the year is up. I have spent more money traveling than anything but hopefully that will change. :)

CC's are hard to get out of if you dig your self a hold. I tried to use my bank more than anything.

yeah CC's can get crazy. before i started my business i was 30k in the whole. and i made over 60k a year tinting windows. dont ask, i have nothing to show for it, and had no money in the bank. went into the biz and went 60k more in so that was 90k under. but biz jumped off like crazy and i cleared it all in 8 months. oh my business partner also went over 30k under. now we are all free and clear and stay away from credit cards as much as possible. when you see how hard it is to pay it off, you dont want to get it back up there again, unless you have a plan on paying it off and sticxk to it.

Pay it all with a credit card then apply for one with 0% interest then pay it off with that. Do this for a few years then leave the country.

I just save but if I see something used that I really want, I start selling junk on ebay to free up some extra funds.

Prioritizing is a must for me as I have a family and a dang mortgage to pay. That's why car mods is so slow and money saved goes to my daughters CD account.

I just racked up a hefty bill on my CC for the air and install, but it's on a 0% int for 15months, so I can pay that off before it starts adding on the interest if not transfer to another card that has an offer of 0% on all transfers for the life of the loan then pay it off on that card and close the other.
Not a good way of doing things especially if you tend to get behind on your payments, but it works for me.

As for having a daughter, would rather see her happy in the van than me in my Q bouncing around hehe :)

Wish I had a lucrative job that pays good so I can have my cake and eat it too..but I dont.

I have a set budget for my car. (1) Credit card and (1) Bank account. After every paycheck a certain amount is deposited into my "Car Fund" account. After I have enough funds for the parts I want, I start ordering. On my credit card, I have a certain amount of time with 0% APR, which all purchases will be paid off before interest kicks in. These cars are very expensive to mod, all I can say is a good budget plan for all your spending helps BIG TIME. Keep track of all your purchasing. I know where every penny of my paycheck goes. Once you know where all your money is going, you can set yourself on a spending limit to save more money for other things. My cousin is a financial advisor so he gives me lots of adivce, which has helped me cut back on bullshit spending, and know where all the money I make goes. If anyone needs any help on anything financial, just lemme know.

Its all about control.

You have to control your spending in balance of your actual income. Don't get yourself in a hole just to one up each other.

This pretty much happens to all auto forums / enthusiast. Most are just doing things to get the approval of the people instead of doing things the way they want it. Ending up spending more on a car that the "forum" eventually built for him..LOL

I gets mine only if there is extra.....at a one time purchase

for instance if I get a 5k bonus then maybe I'll get a kit thats 2k....

or if I get a bonus like for 2k then I allow myself around 500 bucks....for mods

I'd be finished with my car by now.....but the fam is growing and you gotta do what you gotta do.

recently purchased a Honda Odyssey....so, kit along with other mods had to wait.

prioritize baby.

I wish I could See a 5k bonus ever! lol

I think Pagong hit the nail on the head. Trying to be the first or out do others. IN my case I hate having a stock looking vehicle with others having nicer cars so I tend to push my limits abit which is really bad cause you end up with some good and some bad results. Oh well I have years to improve my car.

5k bonus would finish my car!

Sometimes I just need to bite the bullet and spend more than I should so I can get things done, or else the car will suffer...repairs will get done no matter what ( :< ), and yesterday I bought an A'PEXi exhaust for no good reason ( ^ _ ^)∠☆PAN！

For every mod I buy, my wife makes me put an equal amount in the bank account we have for the kids. It sucks to pay $4K for $2K wheels, but at least my kids can live better than I did.

Now that deserves some respect.

I work the good old save up and buy method. If I get a good client where I'm doing a decent site, I may use some of that for my parts as well. Usually I just save up.

(P.S. Anyone need some web design work? :P)

well the method that i use is putting cash on products to get them ordered and when they come in, i just pay them off. doing this with my past SC project and now my GS3, i can get upgrades @ a satisfied pace. sometimes its who you now and how you treat your resources that can obtain high desireable products. the companies i deal with respect my loyalty as a customer and in return; i can achieve my goals with my car. most shop owners know that 60-75 % of their customers live @ home w/ their parents, using college funds, flipping parts, woring 2 jobs, have children, bills, all kinds of stuff. plan the time that you think it will take to get your car the way you want it and buy your parts accordingly, and never settle on the first "deal" you come across. there is always a better deal to be made

Happens all the time. I must of changed my mind like 5 times while saving for wheels then I found a set that I didnt even consider at first but had to have them no matter what it took to make them work. You need to trust your gut feeling.

The good thing about high quality JDM wheels are that when you get bored with them, you can sell them back for a good price as long as they are in good condition.

A LOT of money spent on cars....too much.

I'll buckle down soon and prioritze my life. R'now im just doin 'whatever',havin fun and pretty wreckless with money.

I've found that being a little reckless often yields good results, because if I sleep on stuff for too long I miss my chance.
I try to always keep my VISA bill to an amount that I can pay off in full by the time it rolls in though.
