Credit Card question
I just found out that the only 1 credit card that I have is under my parent's name. I owe a few grand but have maintained "good credit." The banker lady said that since its under my parent's name, I don't have any credit! Man all this time, I thought I was building my credit!! It was a LONG time ago when I first got this card so I couldn't remember if they put me under their card or if I signed up on my own. I THOUGHT I filled out a form they sent me in the mail but I guess not. So anyway, does anybody have a credit card under someone else's name that they added you to? I guess I'll have to start looking through those credit card applications they send me now. I'm thinking of going with Discover since they do that reward thingy..

Yep, as soon as you hit campus. They have tables lined up with credit card apps.

have you checked your credit report? There are free services out there, but I just use www.privacyguard.com once a year. It is only $1 (as long as you cancel your trial membership) and it'll give you a full report from all 3 reporting agencies and let you know what accounts are actually affecting your credit (either positively/negatively).

Mark. My older sisters went through the same shit you did. They were all under my parents' credit card thinking they had build up their credit. So now they have their own. I got my credit card last year through Wells Fargo Platinum since it was 0% APR and no payments until 6 months after.

i think you would only build your credit if you have a card under your parents if the card company required for your parents to give your social security number. because if no SSN was given, how would you build your credit right?
