99' Q45t, factory Bose system.

The stock system seems to be pretty poor in my car. Listening to regular cd's, I usually have to have the bass either all the way down or sometimes I can have the bass just below mid way. If I put it up higher, they just distort/bottom out. Is the bass responce really that poor on these stock systems?

I have a Clarion Pro Audio DXZ925 headunit and amp/15" sub from my Volvo, but I have heard that with the Bose systems, you have to replace the door speakers at the same time, seeing as they are independantly powered?

I think so. Not the best system i heard, but decent. Its nothing compared to the newer toyota base model sound systems tho.

Yes, all the speakers have their own amp.  I think I'll just leave mine, it's not bad, and would be a lot of work and expense to replace ...

yeah mine arent bad at all. the bass is still strong and planning to upgrade to in dash navi setup but keeping stock speakers.

from what I remeber....only the rear speakers are active....the others (doors) are powered by an amp near the gas tank

all the speakers are powered from the trunk 
one thing to remember when replacing any of the factory drivers it that they will need to be 2 ohm drivers or your output will be low and unbalanced.. .the upper models from companys tend to be mostly 2 ohm  ie: kenwood excelon pioneer premeir, mb quart... yada yada yada...
 also remember if using an internaly amped headunit use a level converter.... the bose amp in the trunk will not function the greatest seeing full power

they're 4 ohm...and most aftermarket speakers are 4 ohm

mmm that interesting all 6 drivers I removed have 2 ohm labels.

oh and correction on my statement the rear speakers only receive a preamp signal from the amp in the trunk that are powered separately

hahha didn't even notice that...they went straight to the trash when they came out......my bad....for the most part most cars will come with 4 ohm speakers....as for 2 ohm speakers...you would use them to maximize amplifier output if your amp can handle the load...but they are more susceptable to noise....

Thanks that's exactly what I wanted to hear.

Now are you saying that you can replace the speakers with aftermarket ones and have no ill effects of sound quality? Or is it better to replace the factory amp also? How about adding a sub to the factory system?

For the most part I deal with just regular installs. I have not had much experiance with the higher end Bose systems.

I ran hi to lo convertors off the stock amp then ran rca's to my new amps.....so I'm still using my stock headunit

so thats what you need to be able to use subs on the factory bose systems? a hi lo convertors?

Also, what are the factory sizes for the door and rear parcel shelf speakers? I went to look it up on Crutchfield and it won't tell me. I'm assuming 6.5 doors and 6x9's on the shelf? Thanks.

6.5's in the front dors and rear deck.... woofers in the rear deck  the 6.75 size will also fit

5.25's in the rear doors
