A/C Smells?

Everytime i turn the AC on, it smells like wet old people...haha.

Anything i can do to clean up the air system or somthing to make the air not smell like wet old people?

Yes there is. You can get a can of a/c odor spray(I highly recommend Frigee Fresh!!!) and spray it into the air inlet in the cowl(by the wipers usually). With Frigee Fresh I recommend to close all windows and run the engine. Turn the heat to full blast with recir off and spray for about 15 seconds into the inlet. Let it sit for 5 mins and do it again. You can then turn the a/c on and crack the windows a bit. Turning on RECIRC might help a bit more as well at this point.
There are other sprays and kits for this but I have never had a complaint after having this concern/complaint.

Get in the habit of turning the AC off a minute before you park.  It'll help blow out some of the moisture that's in there.

Avoid using recirculate for the same reason.

BMW owners are ALWAYS complaining about this.

Yea, mine smells horribly as well. I've been meaning to do this for awhile, but have been putting up with it.

change the filter?

I know cars have lil air filters ect, but where is it located for the q?

not vehicle specific, but they're usually under vented panels(Passenger side) against the firewall, where the windshield wipers are. This is why most cars have the [I]condensation issue[/I] when they arent fastened down properly.
 
 Another typical place is behind the glove box, like sum Lexus cars.

cabin filters are a pain in the ass! plan on removing half your dash to get it out. Ive replaced them before and have found some interesting things in there.

For the Y33 Q45 its right behind the glovebox, you'll have to remove the glove box to slide it out. I've replaced mine this time last year, maybe I should do it again.

Thanks, anyone know where i can get a replacement filter? Or its you can just go into any auto parts store and buy them like you do with intake filters?

get a hepa filter and cut it to the exact size of the AC filter from your car. It should supply enough 'filter material' to last the life of your car.

What you have is Mold growing in your condenser!!What happens is when you use your A/C it developes water vapor from the freon flowing through the condenser inside the dash. As the air flows through the condenser it gets cold. It also devlopes the water that you see dripping underneath the car when your A/C is on. That water sometimes gets trapped in the condenser and starts to grow mold ( the smell ) Useing the heater will help to dry the condenser since the air flows through the condenser/ Heater core. What you need to do is get OZIUM (Available at any autoparts store or drug store) Make sure you get the airasol type. Spray it into the INLET of your heater/ air conditioner. Let it sit for about 10-15 min.Than run the heater for about 10-15 min. (Make sure engine is good and hot so the heater blows HOT air) Than it should be ok!! To help keep it from coming back treat it regularly ( once about every 2 weeks )  Hope this helps!!! Also to help out when you use your A/C turn off the A/C approximatly 5 min. before you get to your destination ( Keep the fan on. Just use the fan. The air will still be cold but will start the drying process of the condenser) I do this to my car to keep the mold down!! I used to work for a major car company and this is the method we used. We also gave the customer a can of OZIUM and a sheet of paper stating the process I just listed here!! Hope this works!! P.S. Depending on your area and hummidity you may have to do the proceedure more often!!

I rarely use the AC. its just that its always on and i dont know how to turn on "just the fans" without the ac kicking in on this car yet...still new to all these auto options haha.

You use the "Econ" mode for that.

i had that same problem a few weeks back...gave my friend at nissan a call and he said that the problem would go away if you run your AC everyday.

so far it's been getting better everyday...
