Sucks to hear that.
When was the last time you changed you tranny fluid?
Mine was doing that between 2nd and 3rd gear.
I would jump on the highway and it wouldn't go past 60mph.
Then it would start slowing down, I would stop on the side of the road and then it was fine.
Changed my fluid and the problem went away.
Hope its something as simple as that.........Otherwise you'll be paying alot to have your tranny rebuilt.
Good luck.

Try doing a tranny flush and see if that helps.

drop the pan, change out the filter, and see how much metal is on the magnets. replace the filter, bolt the pan back up and add fluid. then do a flush. hopefully that should cure it.

If not..might be time for a new torque converter.

Looks like it was put up the the for sale section...
I'd do basic maintenance like what mista808 mentions if you have not done so before deciding to sell. but that's just me.

My parents own a tranny shop. Like people have said, drop the pan and see how much metal is in it. What does your tranny fluid smell like? If you have a Check Engine Light, we check it for free. Contact me via PM if you would like more info.

Where can i get the transmission filter from? When i drop the pan im expecting to have to get a new pan gasket.
and if i read the directions correctly you guys want me to drain...then refill with fluid, then flush and add more fluid? If there is no metal should i be ok? And at that point should i take my car in to a tranny shop(probably mdenoga's parents) and have it checked before i do this or after i check all the possible problems that might have occured? Does the torque converter sound like a reasonable problem?

How often do you change the transmission fluid? Most of my cars I do it 2-3 years or so. I tend to do it the same time as the brake fluid. Having just looked thru the factory service manual a bit it requires a specific nissan transmission fluid. All Nissan dealers will have the fluid. It should be bright red in colour. Unsure about the filter.
Change the transmission fluid and filter and see if it improves.
I say just bring it into a shop if unsure. Ask them to do the steps as listed as above.
1: drop pan
2: check filter
3: replace filter
4: clean particles/junk
5: reattach pan
6: flush until clean
7: add transmission fluid.
note: I dont own a Q or a modern car made before 1980.

is there a specific liquid to do a tranny flush? i suppose you can buy some "tranny flush" at kragens or something and get tranny fluid on the side to fill it back up.

Bring it into my parents' shop to check it out. My dad doesn't recommend you to drive it but if you're going to drive. Do it at a low speed. Basic checkup is free. Ask for John. If not, go to a local shop but I can't recommend anyone in that area. Did you try asking Van? He might know someone.

The shop is also open SAT 8-1pm but I would call first to make an appointment and see if that day is available. Your car uses Nissan Genuine ATF or Dexron II. Fluid Change should be done at least every 15,000-20,000 miles. Now, the flush involves removing all the tranny fluid in the transmission case and torque converter. The worst case scenario is that if you have an internal problem, they will not recommend you to do a fluid change or tranny flush (exchange). This is because the detergent properties of the fluid and exchange process could mobilize material trapped in the torque converter which will accelerate transmission wear and can cause new symptoms or worsen existing symptoms.

So i just came back from the tranny shop today here in norcal. It was the fluids...they have never been changed by the previous owner....or it has been a long time...and he checked the plates in the tranny...second and third gear had normal wear and he said it was called "mushy" lol...so he did a flush and refill..and now it runs smooth again.so i guess no more sale of this q...lol.thanks everyone who helped...i told him everything you guys said and he did drop the pan check for shavings(which it had a small amount but nothing major) and changed the filter. then flushed and refilled. all of which all of you had said.

it did..thanks to VSC alot man..all you guys helped alot...as for now im working on still getting a rebuilt tranny just because...so i dont get another scare.....but im working with Sic Motorsports to build a custom air setup...We worked on it today...it came out pretty well..just got to get my airbags...im hoping someone who worked with air on the g50 could read this but i need UAS bags...this is my setup
3/8" air line
1/4" to 3/8" airline brass fittings for bags
1/4" brass plug fittings
1/4" brass drain fittings
.......hella brass fittings...ehh...lol
NOW MY QUESTION...what UAS bags would i use with this setup without rubbing on the g50 and my rim setup? I told the shop to help me build this setup but i will pick my own bags.

Backing up a bit. You might want to consider installing a cheap transmission cooler, if one was not previously installed.

that was already in the line of the tranny rebuild...i just hit the transmission shop today..my car will go in in about 2 weeks with an oil cooler...after the tanny shop is done it will head over to another garage to get the airbags(crossing fingures).although nothing ever goes this well.
