Questions on differences: JDM v. USDM y33 cima...

i was wondering if anyone knew the differences between the jdm and usdm cimas (y33). i just bought a 97 and wanted to begin putting it together, but wanted some info before i got parts that didnt fit...

i.e...
-bumper lengths and headlight fixtures - i know jdm does not require the reinforcement bar the usdm does which would make j bumpers shorter. this is true for some vehicles, but is it true for this vehicle or will jdm aftermarket bumpers hook right up to our usdm cars? do the aftermarket led headlights that certain j companies make fit right into usdm spec cimas?
-dash components - this doesnt have anything to with j and us markets, but does the kouki (99+) dash plug right into the zenki models (97-98). the kouki has the analogue timepiece and a nicer look to the a/c controls with a different stereo (which im not too concerned about)?
-if i were to pick up suspension from a j company (i.e. bold world) will it fit right into usdm spec cima's?

i've been trying to figure out these differences, but the scene is so new...info on technicalities is limited

Re: Questions on differences: JDM v. USDM y33 cima...

-I don't think there are too many members on this site that have aftermarket bumpers on their cimas...I can think of 2 and the bumpers seem to fit w/o any problems. The OEM bumper for US spec model is different, but a few people were able to make a Wald lip kit work on US bumpers. Headlights and taillights fit right in, some rewiring may be nessessary.

-As for the gauges...you will have to consult the wiring diagrams for that one. As long as they did not change any electical components, I don'tsee why it wouldn't fit.

-Suspension-wise...I am running JDM JIC's on my Y33, and they fit right in...so you won't have any trouble using another japanese company.

Re: Questions on differences: JDM v. USDM y33 cima...

I'm on airrunners. There's two different suspensions. One is a V8 model and the other is the V6 model. Both use spindle struts in the front. The V6 model uses 12mm bolts and the V8 uses 14mm bolts. I have the first airrunner kit ever sold in the US.

Most likely...yes. I think they have a few different bumpers for the Cimas...one for a regular model and one for a touring model.

You may need to modify the bumper a little. If anything, you may lose the styrofoam piece that attacthes to your impact beam.

Re: Questions on differences: JDM v. USDM y33 cima...

losing the styrafoam piece is an easy fix considering some other cars...its nice to hear that i can keep my reinforcement bar

i didnt know that touring and regular models had different size bumpers nor did i know that they made a v6 for the y33 (maybe only in the j market...? i didnt know of anything like that for us spec)...i have a lot of researching to do :smiley6600:

how are the airrunners? i have a pretty good price break for them, but was highly considering a coilover suspension with the roberuta parfume cup height adjuster add-on...or possibly bold world bags...

No, no, no...touring and regular have same size bumpers, but the touring bumper has a small lip on the bottom.

yes, the V6 turbo model was only made in Japan. If you need airrunners, PM me.
