fitment or stance? step lip options also.

i have a dilema... my car has a solid rear beam (so no rear camber). i want to install air ride, but if i do my wheels in the rear will have to be sunk in a lil. it will also leave me with a small lip which might look bad considering i'm really feelin step lips right now. if i go for fitment i'd use coilovers. then i can't go as low as i want to. this might be the best idea because i don't want to lay on the kit i'm importing. what i've been thinking is going smaller diameter wheel (18'), mild stretch (235/35 on 8.5"), decent offset (25-30 mm on fwd), fender roll, and putting bags over coilovers. then i could set the height to be a mm above the lip of the rim at dump. might cost a grip but you have to pay to play. what do yall think?

also any new options in step lip 18/19" wheels? i know of the jp, bbs lm, wise super wade (matches my kit which is a big plus to me, i won't even wear a shirt if i don't have the matching pants), and j-lines (vip status?).

what yall think?

You could bend the rear beam to set amount of camber. Not saying it's the best plan for you, but it  has been done.

yeah i forgot to mention; the to things that are not an option are getting a different car (i know someone is thinkin rwd) and bending the beam.

You could use some rear camber shims. I am not sure if they make them for your car. You could have some made like these.

Here are some coilovers for the a32 with rear camber plate not sure what brand. Might want to try Maxima.org for some info.

i'm all over maxima.org. those are motivational rear mounts. they increase suspension travel but are not camber plates. never seen those shims. any more info? i'm 99.9% positive that theres nothing i can do short of bending the beam.
 
more bad news; i don't think theres a coilover for my car with a diameter small enough to fit uas bags. this means i either have to use air and tuck, use air with good fitment and not go low, or use coilovers and go low (bust axles and scrape $3k kit).
 
i pretty much decided on getting these custom made j-lines. 18x 8 with ~25mm offset.

I don't understand...what's stopping you from fabbing an air sus with a ride height as low as you would have on coilovers AND have good fitment.

i can do that. it was really a bad title. i just can't go as low as i wish i could because if i get flush and my rear wheels don't camber i'll just be sitting on my lip. i know thats low enough (looks like where most ppl stop around here) but i really wanted to tuck some wheel at full dump. i've been lookin at some pics and i'm startin to feel the fender to lip thing. another thing is i dont want a lot of stretch in the tires. i know i'll need some and my fenders will be rolled. i guess i'm just makin it hard on myself because i can't do it exaclty how i wanted. air it is!

I think you could go with a lower offset if you're okay with fender processing...just a guess though.
I get the feeling that 18x8 +25 was pretty conservative (for Vip styling) on my car after all.. But then again, I have independent suspension in the rear.

yeah theres a couple guys in malaysia with a lil lower. don't think i could get lower than 20. i will roll but i don't think pulling would look good without camber. i'm just going to measure and plug it into a calculator to get it perfectly flush.

98 nissan maxima.

big props to the wheels. same as leon hardiritt bugels, but the jlines are offered with step lips.  i was considering going with this company as well, but since they havent responded to my email, shows me that im not worth that 2-3K wheels or something like that. but nonetheless. i like em.

uhh... no...
I think they're nice wheels too, but they're definitely nothing like the Bugels. 
Also, the Bugels are available with a stepped lip for 19" or 20".

huh... funny you mentioned it. i've been searchin through tons of pics and i am pretty sure i need to go bigger. a32s have a huge wheel well and theres no way i could get the fit i want with 18s. might not be able too any way but i'm gonna try. this is the closest i've found:

i'm thinkin 19's or mybe even 20's. i like the step lip but i also like the no-lip monoblocks. opinions?

That car is amazing! If you shoot for something like that, I think you'll end up with something incredible.
From the looks of that car (is that an A32?) your estimated specs were pretty conservative..

yeah thats what i'm workin with. in my research i've found that alot of ppl are runnin 19 x 9/10 but i'm havin trouble findin the offsets. really i'm just waiting to go measure the fit myself this weekend.

i have liked these forever and i'm thinkin if i grab them in something near right spacers shouldn't be a big deal, since theres no lip anyway.

found this old thead i had and it has some guys from malaysia runnin 8.5/9.5 with a 30 mm offset.

The wheel comes in offsets in the thirties for an 18 or 19 x9" wheel, so fender clearance should be easy as pie if you choose that.

is the rear wells radiused?

Hi I'm from Malaysia. For the A32 chassis, you can go as far as 19s with 9.5JJ if the offset is right. IMHO, 20s is possible too.

My ride is running on solid rear beam as well. I'm looking for ways to get some -ve cambers without bending the beam as well.

Anybody knows how? I'm riding on Sentra N16, equivalent to States side B15.

exclusive: i would be really surprised if it was radiused. its just built with stupid big wheel wells.

i'm really thinkin 20s will be too big. it's not a big body but it's not small either. what do y'all think. i think i'm goin mrr either way 20" hr3 or oreder the 19" hr2 again.

You could still try and get the 19" Cosmic Venerdi Hereborrani CL210, it would just be more work

i like them more, but i think the hr2 will match the over all style better. the wise kit is a lil sporty, thats why i was thinkin the mesh before. heres a pic with similar wheels to the hr2.

Sorry this is a pretty old thread, but I have never seen camber shims before. Wouldn't it cause the hub to rotate off axis and the wheel would be moveing around all over the place? I want to look into the rear strut camber plates, but how doesn't this work?

The above shim is for the xB crowd i believe. Alignment correction shims have been around forever for FWD cars that have rear drum brakes and rear suspensions that dont have any adjustments. I can see where there can be some confusion on how the hell something like that can work when trying to apply something that looks like that to a car like ours. First off, this type of shim goes between the hub and the mounting hubs mounting point on the rear suspension and the bolts that bolt the hub assembly in place go through the shims. Their hub assembly is held in place by 4 bolts. The A32 has a hub bearing that goes over a spindle that is attached to the rear beam and the hub is secured to the spindle with a nut similar to how the front is with the axle nut. Unfortunately no type of shim is availible for this type of application.

WRONG!!! I know this was like 10 years ago but you know what those are I hope. The top is some type of coilover that has camber plates on them and the bottom is some other type of conventional spring/strut combo. Rears only have 2 studs for mounting them to the car and the bottom has one hole for a bolt.

Now that I have actually studied the picture above, I noticed those are two front suspension assemblies.  Is it even possible to have a rear camber adjustment since the rear beam wouldn't be able to bend that way?

you could move the top of the shock around all you want. it still would not affect any part of the alignment of the rear of the car(in terms of wheel position)

yeah... i actually stumbled upon the thread at the org with those coilovers. they are a home brew concoction of various parts.

Yea, that makes sense.  You have no idea how bad I want to add some camber to my rear wheels...

Well I am a little late on this topic but I say go for fitment..whats most important is your ride hieght now your parked hieght:biggthumpup: ..as it is your working with a non platform car so the worst thing you could do to it is get a flat faced wheel and tuck it:pat: ..at least thats my opinion. I would much rather see a little pull with some wider wheels with a nice lip at a really nice ride hieght:dance: . I think that will pull of the insired look way more!!!=)

yeah, this thread was a blast from the past. i feel i've came into my own since i posted this so i have a better idea of what to do. i ended buying some hr-2s in a 19" super flush fitment but now i'm trying to sell them off and get something else in a smaller, "barely tuckable" fitment. 7mm in from this with a little fender manipulation:

basically have the lip just inside the fender instead of just outside. the goal is to be able to barely tuck the lip when i lay it out, but have it look somewhat flush when i raise to ride hieght (1-2").
