Q45 motor swaps or internal upgrades....
Hey fellas, ive been debating on what platform to pick, its between a GS300 or a Q45, im leaning towards the GS300 for the wide market for perfomance parts related to the 2jz-ge.... but i really like the Q45 but im concern abou the milage on these V8's... i dont know where i could get the car built, or what to do to it regarding upgrades since its such a rare car to see moded engine wise.... so if any of you Q45 wiz's have any pointers to what could be done to them or anything related Q45 motors, pitch in.... thanks!

4 cam lexus v8 1uz with a supercharger on it :) some dude put one in his cressida, pulled out about 380hp and 600 ft lbs. of torque.

What is the intended purpose of the car? In the first post, he mentioned mileage. Is he worried that these motors are built like domestic V8's that get tired after 150,000 miles?

Here in BC, cars equipped with OBD2 no longer do a dyno runs, rather they plug into your OBD2 port and check for codes. If they can't connect, your car fails.
The RB26 and the VG30 are about the same weight in the 600lbs area. The VH45 is 500lbs. If you go on the G35 forums, there are several people who are building or are running twin turbo VH45 into G35. Some of these are race cars while others are barely street legal where they don't test for emissions. RB26 has been done, but it's a big motor and requires extensive amount of work to get it in. Those that have cut their firewall probably done so to move the engine back for weight distribution, creating a mid-front engine setup. It's also probably easier to modify the transmission tunnel for an inline motor compared to moving a wide V8 motor. Kinda like expanding the tunnel versus having the V8 where your feet and knees would normally be. RB26 has the advantages of being easy to gain more power but the cost benefit don't seem to be there. I know some people do these swaps more as show of skill and uniqueness rather than logic.
I sure wouldn't want a 4 cylinder SR20 in my Q45, a 2JZ isn't that much better than the RB26. An LS1 might not be too bad if I were an electronics engineer to have to sort out the CAN system and integrate the drivetrain with the rest of the car.
If you get a Q45 stick to the same motor. There are a few people building parts for the now and there is a guy that was considering building VH45TT crate motors.
Now if this is going to be a race/drift car, then none of what I said matters as much.

Mark, the guy in question who cut his firewall didn't have to do so, but did do so because of how he chose to run the motor in his car and it was an RB25DET that he put in (and he built it for drifting BTW). The weight of the motor doesn't matter so much as the performance potential it has. The RB26 can easily make numbers that those other motors will be sweating...(although not as much with the 2J). I don't see why it matters all that much to be honest..he just wants a replacement motor.

Fair enough, tho the original poster was asking what car he should get first, and if he was to get a Q45 whether to replace the motor. Would be cheaper and better to build up the stock motor. I don't want to see him get over his head on a project like this.
As for the guy who cut his firewall, being that his car is a race car, it makes sense with his choice, as well as the weight distribution could have been a factor. I've seen it done on other applications as well.

Thanks marksport, for all your help! The man purpose is because my motor is at 200000 already I know it can still last more miles since I'm the 2nd owner, but I also want A somewhat faster engine, but stay automatic like, vip race styles!
