Help with Fatty tire set up

Ok, 18x8.5f/9.5r +12. I want to run a fat tire with a thinner sidewall. The car is a 420SEL.  The tires on it right now are 205/65-15 so thats a outside diameter of 25.5. I'm dropping the car 1.4" (which is the most drop I can get without air) and was hoping to lower it another inch or 2 with tires. I love (and I mean LOVE) the look of old mercs with wide ass tires on them.

 I was thinking about running a 245/35 in the front and a 285/30 in the rear. What do you guys think? Should I go 265/30 in the front?

265 on a 8.5 - you may actually have a bulg as apposed to a strech!

Yes that is what i'm looking for. The wheels are step lip and the buldge will go nicely with the whole look of the wheel. I like fat tires on neo/classic cars. Could I go fatter? I wants lots of tire on the road. 275? 285??

If you're going for a VIP look...may I highly suggest you NOT go big fat tire...please.  You have the opportunity to build a very classic VIP car, please don't do your car an injustice.  If you really MUST have a larger tire set-up , then run the 245's on the front and 265's on the rear.  MAX.

You're right, I mean it's not that I want a really fat tire I just don't want to run a streched tire on a car that weights 5000 pounds thats inches from the ground. My wheels JUST got the lips refinished and rechromed and i'd like a little bit of tire poking out to protect them. What size do you think these tires are:

I just measured my wheels. They are actually 10" in the rear. Life just got a half inch sweeter.

No, I bet they are 9.5"..I assume you didn't  measure from inside the lips, not to the edge of the lips.  The width is where the bead sits which is inside the lip..not outside.

Ya I know. The guy I bought them from said they were 8.5/9.5 but next my other set of *cough uber VIP cough* wheels and measured them for myself and saw they were 10!

So what are you thinking for tires?

PS - I think as I start putting this car together you'll be a little suprised. Maybe i'll test fit my show set of wheels tonight for a little teaser :smiley:
