wheel offset ? on a Y34

might be ordering some rims soon so I was thinking about offsets.. I tried on my dads 19x9.5 +22 and they fit perfect to me front and back but those were Volk LE37's so im assuming standard disk?? also should I bag the car first before I order rims because I dont want to have the rims poke that much, more EXE style I guess thats not agressive. What do you guys think/ any recommendations?

Yes, measure your cars' clearances. Jack it up into the air levelly all around..remove a front and a rear wheel. First measure the back spacing to the inner fender well or suspension...which ever you hit first. Then jack up that corner again and measure it again..it'll be a smaller number, but is a safer number for back spacing. Now check for caliper clearance so you know what size disk/pad to get. This is simple..if the caliper is behind the mounting point then skies the limit..if not measure it to see how far the caliper protrudes. Do this at the outer most part on the caliper that sticks out. Then take a piece of string and tie a lead weight to it. tape it to the outer fender well or inner depending on how aggressive you plan to be. This will create a straight parallel line to the ground and allow your hands to be free. then take a measuring tape and measure from the mounting point to the string. This will give you an approximate measurement for "decent fitment". If you want to go more extreme then take that measurement out a few mm. This is a round about figure to get you close to the mark rather than way off like most people get. The difference in a roll or pull would be minimum and the fitment would be spot on. If you plan to bag it and tuck it then be sure to jack up the mounting point and measure the distance from that point. What this enables you to do is get the distance from mounting point to the fender which can be used in formula to figure out offset. This will vary from width to width and is the reason I will go no further with it..if you can't figure it out from there you shouldn't be measuring it in the first place.

BTW...disk doesn't matter for offset. it just determines how much dish potential there is.

elpresidente- well I sorta did some measurements but only of the rim itself=
19x9.5 +22
98 mm outside
143 mm inside (i didnt measure the clearance from the stock strut to the inside edge of the rim but it was close, reason I didnt measure it was because im not too sure of the dimensions of the airrunner/UAS bags. But from what I felt, i'd say there was 1/2" clearance on the inside)

this other guy in the mainland is running 20x9, 20x10 +22 on his M that is soon to be bagged by UAS. according to his rim sizes I got these measurements
20x9 +22
92.3 mm outside
136.3 mm inside

20x10 +22
107 mm outside
147 mm inside

im assuming that his rims will fit the UAS bags, I think i'll just have to get my suspension first to really get the measurement down.

Yep, you won't know for sure till then. You can make a safe guesstimate but it's not a sure thing. I think you get the jist of what I was saying about measuring up fitment and how to use the numbers.

Great write up elpresidente. I'm going to try the string/weight trick.

I agree that you need the suspension first so you can safely measure strut clearance.

I have 20x9 +22 and 20x10 +22 and all I did was roll the fenders.

hey guys,

what about 20x9 +10 in front and 20x10 +8 at rear, for 2004 M45.

what would it require ? a roll ?

It just seems strange that those wheels wouldn't work. Your wheels would look nice on the M45!
