What are the better HID aftermarket systems?

like the topic says what do you guys think about the various brands of aftermarket HID plug-n-play kits? I've only had stock HID cars and never once used a kit. i know a bunch of you guys have experience in different brands. Also im looking for around 6000k if that helps i know some brands make up to like 15k or something. i want the best quality for a reasonable price. vendors can chime in too :biggthumpup:

there are not really any "brand names" for aftermarket HID since they are illegal.

just look at the ballast and the bulbs and check out the warranty. There are so many different "brand names" and a lot of times they all originate from the same manufacturer in china-taiwan-korea (maybe japan). some say "made in japan" but I highly doubt it.

as for stock hid housings, you have to stick to OEM spec fit bulbs. I'm not sure if OEM offers in different kelvin ratings. U can also use adapters that will take a aftermarket HID bulb and make it fit into a oem HID housing.

im actually trying to fit it into the foglights on my body kit. debating on trying to retro-fit some projectors from hidplanet. waiting for my fogs to be made n shipped so i can measure the reflector size. dont even know what halogen bulb it uses stock yet :shrug:  lol my computer displays japanese text in boxes n numbers.

in my headlights i have some cheap 6000k bulbs for now gonna change to philips ultinon when i fit the kit.

I've experienced a dozen of HID set ups and brand wise......for the most part they're all the same!
Except for the ones like Fablous and all those other high end brands (those tend to stay more consistant / they're kevlar rating) Aftermarket will always be brighter and better than OEM IMO. I have OEM in my headlights but will be switching to 8K when I can. I currently have 10000K coming for my fogs which are for my aimgain kit! I had 8K in my stock fogs before which I picked up from ebay for like 120 shipped. I've installed 3 sets from ebay and have never had any problems. The only thing I can say is w/ the cheaper brands, different Kevelar levels are different colors depending on that brand........

thanks :biggthumpup:  Yeah, id rather not pay that much for most of the jdm high end ones (modeparfume,junction,fabulous etc.) i dont really see them as being 3 times better than the cheaper 2 or 3 hundred dollar ones. im hoping to find a modestly priced one thats made in japan preferably. otherwise im going to buy hella/philips ballasts n bulbs. i like the color of 10,000k but i like the light output/color compromise of around 5500-6000k 


Did anybody buy the porsche or rs6 projectors from HIDplanet.com? they look like you can fit them in foglights with some modifications.

I have Kaixen HIDs on my FC and I love them.  They were $400 because they were HID high and low beam.  But they're a great setup and I would recommend them to anyone.

In my opinion, a 'better' hid kit is one that has a separate wiring harness, drawing power from the battery, and utilizing the stock wiring harness as just a switch. that way, there's no chance of an electrical fire due to old wiring that's not up to spec for an HID ballast.

We sell Eurolite and Ignited, and my boss actually recommends that I push the Eurolites more than the Ignited ones.  *shrug*

I've used those before, and the SUCKED. Not worth it at all. The wiring harness didn't even work right, and the 'installation instructions' were a shitty picture that didn't really show you how it was hooked up. Not worth it at all.

lol see this is why i asked. so many of these kits look good on paper or have fancy websites that make them look good. lol. i think im leaning towards bellof and philips/hella. so far those are the top HID specific manufacturers i could find.:shrug: 
depending on the size of my foglight bulb i might try a projector retrofit. dont even know what bulbs they utilize since the kits still being made.:pat:

I was going to recomend phillips/hella.  If you can afford to pay alittle extra for those kits then get them/  Those are the ones that come from the factory on audi/bmw/mercedes/etc.  They last for years unlike some brands that last for 6 months.  Stay away from katz, I heard lots of bad things about the quality.

good to know. i guess the hype got me.

It's what every honda 'jdm enthusiast' uses, it's ridiculously cheap, it's made in China (literally) and the directions were a picture on the back of the box that didn't even relate to the h4 hi/low kit. 


Go with Phillips/hella, or if you want something a little cheaper try xenondepot.com. His kits use a separate wiring harness that hooks directly to the battery. Much safer, because if your wiring somehow gets messed up, it goes through that separate harness, and not your stock one.

i just figured the lifetime warranty meant it was good, i guess it just means they're so cheap they can afford to replace em.

I've used tech1s havent had any problems in 3 years...

I've also used Panasonic and Hella as well and were happy with them (though my panasonic kit is having problems after 7 years)

if you want to pay to play get phillips or hella

tech1 isnt bad they have good protection on their ballasts from the elements and once you figure out their installation instructions its not hard at all

and you cant beat a lifetime limited warranty... obviously there is enough trust in the product for it not to fail frequently

can you trust a shoddy wiring job? i can't, or rather won't. that's just my beef with them. if you don't mind it, that's fine.

yeah the reason i didn't mention hella/phillips is i don't really consider them aftermarket (see op). i plan on having a custom wiring harness made for my whole front end because i don't like the way nissan designed the lighting. so would you recommend them carnal? did you grab them from the gd on the .org?

With the 9004 lighting stock it kinds sucks but HIDs makes it a lot better but there's a little too much glare the best upgrade is the OEM cefiros with a better beam pattern and H4s. Avoid the aftermarket cefiros like the plague

As far as the plug and play HIDs like tech1s I understand that an independent power source may be better but imagine all those consumers that would mess that up and cause wiring shorts and car fires.I think the plug and play is easier and overall safer as I have never seen an hid system short out a stock wiring system if it was wired correctly

i might just stick with halogen on a custom harness for the maxima build. i have had a pair of eagle eyes smoked 1 pc cefiros in a box for like 3 years. i will probably sell them and grab some oem cefiros and hid on my i30 build.

kits for my MR2 and my friend's commuter Civic. I like their kits because they 
come with a complete wiring kit with relays and the 12V power is home-run to the 
battery. Makes it a bit challenging to bury all of the wires behind the headlight,
but I like knowing that the ballasts are isolated from the car's electrical system
and won't cause any issues.

Highly recommended.
