Car alarms?
I have a 91 LS 400, is the factory alarm good enough or should I get an afternarket one? And if so, what brand and model?

If you can, get one with a pager.
A upgraded alarm wont do shit now a days. People are starting to not care for the annoying siren of a car alarm, and the majority of alarms out there sound alike.

compustars are the shit. tremendous reliability and their customer support is awesome. vipers are great too along with clifford. though theyre pretty much the same thing both being top alarm offers from directed. i personally use a viper. i got rid of the LCD remote and went with your typical 4 button deal. good range.

I guess I will save for a Viper. But how affective is the stock alarm system? And a friend was telling me to also install "Crime Stopper CS-193II sirens".

do u have anything that people would try and take? is your car a magnet for thieves? if it is, then overkill isnt a bad thing when it comes to alarms. the usual immobilizer works great to keep people from getting far with the car. some folks choose to make it impossible to sit inside to completely prevent people from making off with the car. ive heard of people adding sirens behind the stearing column and on the a-pillars along with strobes in various spots inside to disorient anyone trying something. a very good theft deterent, though, has a very different siren and ways to keep someone from taking your shit...its called a rottweiler in the yard with the car.

he keeps a briefcase full of a million dollars in his car. so yeah overkill is definitely not a bad thing when it comes to upgrading the alarm

The installation is generally more important than the alarm you get. Of course you can add various options, but if the installation is poor then it won't be hard to by-pass the entire system. Now if someone really wants your car there isn't much you can do about it regardless of what alarm system you own. Thats why we pay for insurance.
