How to install Mascot on a US model hood?

I'm thinking of buying a mascot but not sure on how I should drill or cut out whats necessary.   Has anyone tried it themselves?   I have a dremel and I have a good size compressor so I can buy some air tools if needed.   What would be the steps to lining it up and how far up or down should it be mounted?  thanks.

Get some tape and place a piece going up the middle of the hood. Step back and make sure its lined up straight. then lift the hood and feel where the hood latch is and place a horizontal piece of tape on top of the hood. You should now have a "t" on your hood. You need to drill 3 holes from the top of the hood so its lined up with the hood latch. The middle hole is bigger then the other two.
 
Just be very careful. Be sure to messure 2 or 3 times since the hood is aluminum. You mess up and you will have to buy a $600 hood plus $100 shipping

This will help you visualize where its placed.  Your going to love it.  Makes parking easier plus its nice seeing it in front of your car while your driving

I try to find the easiest place to measure from each sid eof the hood. then using t T square to mark up a 90 angle from the tape to get my centered line.once I have my center squared out i measure back from the front how far I want to put the mounting whole for the mascot.

Hard to explain, I hope somebody has a good write up maybe. I can't seem to find one anywhere.

I did mine myself. Took me about an hour. I used blue tape to line it up. Using the center line of my hood, and the rearview mirror as a reference. Also used the supplied rubber/whether piece as a template for where to drill the holes. Be sure to take your time, be carful, and don't be afraid to ask for help. I had to have Augdogg help me on gettin it centered. :biggthumpup: 
IMO I wouldn't say it's the hardest mod but I would never ant to do it again! hahaha!

i just double sided taped mines on.. so i can take it off..

if you can't find the center of the hood and where you want your mascot installed, you shouldn't be trying this...
 
BUT, when/if you find the center...
 
1. center punch the exact location where you want to drill...tap the center punch lightly with a hammer, just enough to make a mark...too hard and you'll make a dent...
 
2. start with a small drill bit just to get the hole started...once you've started the hole, make your way up to the size of bit you need...use the rubber piece and line up the other holes, then drill...
 
3. install mascot.
 
couple tips...make sure where you drill, you have access to the mascot underneath the hood...depending on the make/model and location where you want to drill, you may drill in a location where it's covered by the inner skin...just something that may be overlooked...
 
mask off the area with 5-6 layers of automotive masking tape...your drill may slip...better safe than sorry...
 
if your hood is thick, constantly dip your bit in oil...it'll help prolong the life of your bits and will help drill faster and cleaner...if you have cheap bits then don't worry about it...

Yeah I was thinking of using painters masking tape to lay on and do measurements.   I didn't think about the punch but I think if I start with a small enough bit and go up from there it should be ok.   I will definitely mask off a decent area around it just incase.     There are couple holes underneath the hood where I would think the mascot would sit...Also these holes are on the frame structure underneath the hood.

I just used some heavy duty double sided tape on mine, I like to replace it every 6 months or so just to be safe.  Id much rather do that then have to drill a permanent hole in my hood...  ive taken it up to 120mph with the hood mascot on and it stays put. :tmyksg8:

Yea the older Y33s have holes where they drill for the JDM cars that come w/ the bonnets,
mine didn't :sad:. So I hit up my buddy who did his bonnet on his older Y33 and used those measurments! :biggthumpup:

Would be nice but the cima bonnet has pins that you have to drill in the hood for! 3 to be exact and one is REALLY BIG!!!!

When I got them they were mint  but I do what I can to keep them that way.   Once every three months, I clay bar them then use some polish for the light scratches.  I then wait like 12 hours and put a top coat of wax on.  From there I just polish them every 2-3 weeks

not necessarily a "mascot", but an WALD emblem for mine.
first, i eyeballed and postioned where i would like to have the emblem.
second, i measured the hood from side to side to "center" the emblem.
third, i measure/postion the height/distance for the emblem.
fourth, i use the blue tape to square off the area of installation.
fifth, clean off area and peel backing (double stick tape 3m gray) and apply.

i cant imagine that a company dosent include a template.

when i installed a "hood pin" for my carbon fiber hood, i used a "white out" and dab it onto the tip of the pin to mark/postion the pin from underneath the hood to get a correct position for the install.  then i used a dremel w/ a carbide tip and finish the work.

for metal/aluminum hood, do all the above, and use a nail tap before drilling, and use silicone from underneath for any small annoying leaks.

like others have stated, measure more than twice.

a dremel is going to hold a 9/32 drill bit (that's around the size you would need to drill to install the cima mascot)? and we have no common sense? lame... :slap:

Hey you like to drive insanly low and ruin your kit and bumper's and I like to use a drimmel tool to cut into my hood and install my hood bonnet!
