New PS3 and price cuts for the Holiday ;)

NEW YORK - Sony Corp. on Thursday cut the price of its PlayStation 3 game console in the U.S. and announced an even cheaper model that will arrive before the holiday shopping season. 
 
The top-line PlayStation model, with an 80 gigabyte hard drive, now costs $499, down from $599. That effectively eliminates the lower-end model, which has a 60-gigabyte drive and has sold for $499.
A new low-end model with a 40-gigabyte drive will go on sale Nov. 2 for $399.
Unlike the other PlayStation 3 models, the new one won't be able to play games made for the PlayStation 2. In a statement, Sony said this was due to a more extensive lineup of games of the PlayStation 3.
 
The U.S. launch of the 40-gigabyte model was widely expected, since Sony has already announced it for Japan and Europe. It narrows the price gap with competing game consoles, but the PlayStation is still the most expensive.
 
Microsoft Corp.'s Xbox 360 costs $350 and Nintendo Corp.'s Wii costs $250. The PlayStation 3 has been trailing them both in U.S. sales, and the Wii has been a breakout hit for Nintendo, with more than 9 million units shipped. Sony has sold 5 million PlayStation 3s since they went on sale in November last year.

Def car parts over consoles.  I had a friend who owed me some money and had a whole bunch of reward zone points on his best buy account.  It all worked out and ill never complain about a free consol.

I dont even know if I would have time to play a PS3 with all these hot games out or about to come out for 360.

I do want a ps3 for the new twisted metal and grand turismo coming out.  I think ill purchase one when I get a new LCD that does 1080P.  From now tho, ill be good with my 360 and halo.

I have no need for it right now.  All I play is NBA2k8.  Once Grand Turismo comes out then Ill pick up a PS3.  Another game I cant wait for is GTA IV  It takes place in NYC.  Its gonna be nuts already knowing my way around the city and all should save some time

Depends on your favored gaming genres. Me personally, i love my ps3. Sure it's not the best right now, but when the Devil May Cry 4, Gran Turismo, hopefully exclusive SF4, Final Fantasy games come out i'll be happy. Besides right now im enjoying my Tekken Online and the better in my eyes, S.K.A.T.E for ps3. Also, just as note, do not get the 399 version. It's not worth it since you can't play ps2 games.

Yea, I have the S.K.A.T.E game as well but for 360 and it's pretty i'll!
More real than Tony Hawk but HARD AS HELL!
 
But I'm behind on my games thanks to NBA2K8, can't put it down!
And the new pack that came out for Luminis Live! yesterday!

yeah, I think the PS3's main problem is the game developers. they're not stepping up to the plate to produce products that showcase what the ps3 is capable of doing.

i've never been into video games.  I've been into cars since I was 12 and before then, the only game available was atari...shows how old I am

Video games are always a nice break during inclement weather, something we get a lot of in Seattle.

And i have to say I have enjoyed the Tom Clancy Games for PS3 as well as resistance fall of man, thought that was a great game!

I'll be the only one to say that the last game I enjoyed playing was Street Fighter II champion edition and Mortal Kombat 1 & 2.  After those games, the game industry flourished and just came out with too many new games for me to keep up with.  Oh the joys of placing quarters on the screen in placement of waiting in line..  :D

i think i'm over the video game phase....i also just don't justify spending 500 on a gaming system for one game...even though it's a great deal for a blu ray player, i just don't have need for it right now...

I test games for living, so i'm always surrounded by it haha. Yah, developers do play a huge role in the development of games for ps3, but at the same time, its hard for them because the ps3 at this point in time is hard to develop for. Give it another 6 months-1 year. The ps3 will flourish into the greatness that we all know and love.

I've been into games as long as I've been able to hold a joystick! Pretty much all my life! So Video Games will always be a huge Passion to me! Just like cars! The hard part is they both cost money!

I've seen it TONS of times and honestly, THAT's EXACTLY HOW IT IS! Minus the ddr machine though, but i wish we did have one.

Hehe We Will All Get One When More Bomb Games Comes Out. Right Now There Arent There Many Titles Like Xbox 360. The Major Game For Xbox 360 Is Halo 3. I Know Everyone Has Played It By Now :P. But HD-DVD Technology About To Get Knocked Out By Blu-Ray

i'll wait till it goes down to $199 haha, i love my 360!

Not too mention If you really want to enjoy what these systems can do you have to go out and buy a HD tv. So that mean smore money you are required to spend.
