Who's installing your air bags?

hello guys, where u guys go to get them installed ?

IMO universal air's price tag of 1000 bucks to install their air bag system is way too much, especially since they claim it will only take 2-3 days.

where u guys going to get these installed ?

I installed my own in about 4 hours....
 
If you cant do it yourself, Invest in a shop that stands behind their work. Having it done [B]AT[/B] the manufacturer more than justifies the price...when it comes to peace of mind. 
 
You know its done right the first time.

One Ton Garage

The cheapest I could get a quote on an install was about 1600.  Airrunner would of cost about $1200 at most shops around here.  Your on the west so what I say doesnt even matter but im posting anyway just in case people on the east want a ballpark figure.

Are you serious, thats ridiculous its not that difficult just a little time consuming. The airrunner TL we have the guy installed himself.

at sic motorsports out here in san jose they charge about 1000-1200..thats the normal rate on a air install it is very time consuming..

If thats the case, 80% of the Import scene would have to pack it in :smiley: Im a welder/ metal fabricator, I do custom bodywork, shoot (single,2 and 3 stage,graphics) paint, build custom composite parts, engines, etc, etc. 
Im pretty sure I do more than 80% of the 'tuners' in the scene....Male or Female. :shrug: 
 
Its really not hard tho Qoozy!! Grab a spring compressor, impact wrench,jack stands and a few normal hand tools and have at it. You're basicly [I]changing springs[/I] and running air lines. 
 
this was the first Air system ive ever installed or even seen up close. 
 
But if you dont feel comfy doing it, just bite the bullet and take it to the shop. Most people do anyway and its nothin to feel bad about. Just watch the install so you'll know how to fix sumthing if any surprises pop up on the road.

haha thanks for the support driftgirl, yeah most of the peeps here with air suspension had it done professionally (paid someone) , so tristateVIP's statement is pure non-sense.

by the time I buy the jack stands, spring compressor,  my time,  etc...I mind as well have had a professional do it.

did it myself with some help from friends - my first time doing air suspension. if you can follow directions and have some mechanical/electric know-how, you can do it all night long! like someone told me before i decided to do mine - its no harder than installing an audio system and changing out your suspension.
 
tristate is right though, its not hard at all, just time consuming

ok cool, I guess 1000 bucks is average. In that case there is no choice but to have Universal Air do it.

I suggest if you dont know how to work with it....id pay 1g to have the peace of mind that some one is doint it right the first time.  Btw..what kind of suspension did you install your self DriftGril?

+1!!!! i haven't seen a DIY write up yet for air suspension, that would help a lot of ppl without having to spend 1,000,-1,600 just for install!

:hsughowned: by driftgirl... ha haaa jk. anybody could figure it out since almost all the air systems on this board are bag over strut. it really is as simple as changing springs. i would say the electrical is the most crucial part. and its always nice to have somebody else accountable.

it takes time to do it right the first time.. it can be done in a day or 2 but i like to tkae my time with installs..

How much does AutoFashion charge if you guys don't mind me asking?

UA charges 3500 for the kit and install. 2-3 days. im pretty sure that autofashion is very comparable, if not cheaper. btw, AF installs airrunner.

if anybody needs help i'm willing to lend a hand.  but at this rate, i am too busy for this season.  probably after the year is over.  but i can definitely give advice to anyone that needs it

I'm in the process of installing my own kit as well.  1st time also.  I am also going to be going to composite school in December so I hope to be able to do more composite work myself as well.

I don't know call me crazy and all but I like knowing I don't have to deal with worrying if I have everything I need or if I make a mistake t hat will be costly, or even if it will short out or leak. UAS did my install and I could not be happier. Fast service, clean workmanship, and the support afterwards is awesome. Is this a commercial? no, it's a testimony to their awesome expertise and quality, both in product and staff.

Thanks I didnt think my comment was nonsense...I watched my friend install his airrunner and it being his first time installing an air system all he did was follow the directions. If youre not mechanically inclined I wouldnt venture into this. Also in Hawaii , in Honolulu Revision Audio has some serious clean installs.

i dont think qoozy would want to ship his car to hawaii just for an install :smiley:

Man, I was doing Air back in the day... about 1997 or so, all the 
kits were basically one-offs back then. We had to weld all the mounts
and make the brackets for shocks, sway bars, etc. I used to help 
Ryan and the West Coast Customs guys back when they were down
here in Laguna Niguel (wiring wasn't their specialty, I was MECP certified).

I'm currently doing custom air set-ups in a '64 Coupe DeVille and a '49 Ford.
MIC says that they have a bolt-in kit fr the DeVille... they lie, they lie!
Had to make all custom mounts for the rear to get the back to lay frame.

nice... before i die i will build a '70 coupe deville drop back halfed, stock floor bd. well i lie, i will have it built for me. my skills never evolved that far. every summer i ALMOST start.

yeah im considering them myself, since theyre only 80mi. from where im at. plus i can stay over at my bros studio and hit the bags for awhile. no, not air bags, punching bags. lol.

I will be doing everything on my own except the front strut install.  I am having a friend do the front, he has been doing one off air suspensions on almost every kind of car for years.

I think on the install for alot of people too is if it is a Bolt in Kit or if they are putting on together. 

I need to start Collecting parts and then put it all together. and like you The mounts for the struts will be made... oh and ill be needin a lil help with running the Air lines under my car mang.....


But I will be atleast supervising my install with my newfound Crippled ass

4 hours?!?!?! damn you must have a gang of peeps helping out, I can see 4 hours of installing suspension/checking everything but to put together your tank setup, run electricals etc. 4 hrs is unreal.  props though!

You are so welcome (and thanks again for the rims:biggthumpup: ) I feel ya on buying tools. you have to ask if you'll ever need them again. 
 
One thing people in the scene always need are tools and pickup truck. :biggthumpup: ya never know what might happen with a modded car

I drove parts to a friends house to rethread a shock and release one of the springs. 
 
The key is to have everything planned out and layed out [U]before[/U] you start....and having the tools u need.
