Is any thought put into car mods?

This isnt directed to anyone in mind so please dont get butt hurt.  I want to have a serious discussion here.
 
Example- you choose grill B because everyone has grill A but grill B doesnt really flow with whats going on with your car
 
Why do you guys choose some of the mods that you do?  Is it just for the sake of having JDM parts?  Is it to be different from the next guy with your car?  Is any thought put into how the mod will flow with the rest of your car and with the future mods that you plan on doing?

Every single modification that goes onto the car has been pre-thought out in a grand master plan and imagined in my head before buying ANYTHING.

So yea, I think of my stuff but I would like to bring up the fact that some people throw things on just for the fact that there might be many cars that look the same (ie. same rims, aero, suspension, same fusa haha etc...) You have to do what you can to set yourself apart from the rest so people will remember you.  Some people can pull it off, some can't.

This is a good discussion topic but I don't think anybody here will admit that they have too many things on their car that does  not flow.

I have asked the same question to many.  Much thought goes into EVERY mod I do.  I have talked to 5 different companies about their air over shocks, shockwaves, air over bags, and I have taken my wheels off my car and measured things up at least 3 different times and i still don't feel I have thought about it enough.

Wheels...  I know more about sizes and offsets than just about every wheel shop around here and am called by some on a regular basis for advice.  I buy what i know will look proper for the look I am going for...  Which is usually ridiculous fitment.  Once I am finished with school and my career starts to really take off, I will be building my cars to fit wheels, until then I will buy wheels that fit the car real well.

Exterior mods....  I am a fan of simplistic clean styling thats very aggressive to a passer-by.  I like to do mods that are out of the box but follow super clean lines that do not detract from the cars factory presence.

I have been very active in the auto modding industry since 17, and have learned a lot!  But learn new stuff everyday as well.

You cannot build a car that looks good classy(sans paying someone else to design it) without a lot of research, and a lot of people do not understand this.

I respect that. Ppl that put more thought reflect on their cars. Before modding, IMO ppl should consider what they are going for. In a way, the things you do says something to everyone else. I'm real big on little details or mods that look stock. As much as i admire the flash, i'm more conservative and that shows in my ride. Peeps always say "It's your thing, so do what you want!" well thats cool, but if your asking those kinds of questions to get that answer then you may not be on the right track. I'm not here to judge what anyone here does, but like everyone I have an opinion. I think if you want to get extreme in VIP that should be reflected in your stance. The fitment of the wheels you choose. I like it when ppl need to take second looks to make sure it didn't come like that.

I guess I plan my car a lot differant than everyone else. First you have to think of what you are trying to do. Do you want a VIP look? Sporty look? EXE look? I think of the whole picture before I mod anything. I plan out what exactly I am going to do to the interior, exterior, and ICE. First I always work on the suspension afterwhich comes the rims. Rims make the car, so everything that is done to the exterior compliments the rims. I try to go with parts that noone else has, and that would compliment each other. My car has to reflect my personal taste and style so that I am set apart from the rest of the pack. I tend to keep things pretty simple and clean. I like to be flashy, but not GAUDY. Id rather have a simple flare done than one with vents and what not. All the parts have to be name brand and high quality. I have the same feeling as widebody Q, more doesnt equal better.

right now i have a plan for my interior, that i dont know if anyone has done.  i know many will NOT like it, but with all the black JP GS's on scaras out there, this will make my car stand out a little better.  to be honest it seems ridiculous to rip out nice black leather seats, but its gonna be my stab at standing out.  another thing that might not fly well with some, is that i have a potential meeting with ryan from west coast, to do my interior on there new show.  television ads are pricey to begin with so this will kill two birds with one stone for me and my biz.  ISH better do a good job.

I still have that one image of my car in my head that I had when I started. Still working towards it. I design the car in my head, then I see what needs to be done, then slowly but surely, I do it. No rush, just trying to get it right the first time.

I've got an idea in my head how I want the car to look...BUT I'm very guilty of asking for opinions...sucks if you have a crappy idea and roll with it...If I had food stuck in my teeth and I was trying to look cool, I'd hope my friends would tell me.

I bought wheels that were 'vip' then i sold them, and bought wheels that are not so vip. so what. i've only ever seen one other person here with them, and he doesn't have them in the same size as me. so does that make me different? yes. do i like the wheels i bought? i think i can make them work with some spacers, and i need to get my suspension. 
 
I don't want to rock air, because i feel my car is too floaty already. I want to get another set of coilovers, and ride as low as possible. Why? To impress you people here? I'll admit, i do want to impress you guys, because i'll know i stand out then. the other reason? because i like rocking low cars. I like how coilovers make you feel the road.
 
 other than that, i just want a TTE lip. why? because it's simple, and it looks good. 
 
I want to build a custom stainless exhaust, with staright pipes all the way out the back, and some sort of 'vip' tips. Something flashy, and sticking out, but no actual muffler. the way i imagine it in my head, it'll look good. will it? who knows, but it'll sure as hell be loud!
 
another thing that i want to do with my car, is swap the motor, but that's something WAY down the road...just one other thing to be a little different than the rest of the crowd here.

I cant say I have the same eye for mods today that I did years ago. Now its no longer what I like best, its what will flow with the rest of the car the best and is it worth the change? 
 
Example would be the JDM chrome F50 moldings. I love the way they look but they will not compliment my car better then the thin chrome strip that I have on now. I also am in love with a few different body kits but my wheels and fenders may look alittle out of place depending on the kit I go with. At the end If I ever do get a kit, it would be one that im not too big on but it will improve the overall apperance. Thats one of the reasons I had these wheels for sale so I can go a different route but I think I know what im going to do now.

personally I keep a picture in my head of the point I would like to reach, and I move towards that point in a step-by-step methodical fashion. I don't see it as a care to the finish, but rather enjoy doing a couple small things at a time so i can step back and take it all in. Its kinda fun to try and remember what my ride looked like when I first bought it compared to now.

I'm a big believer in the "less is more" philosophy when it comes to my own vehicles, which makes me more of an EXE guy, but I still have nothing but love for hard-core VIP style.

Oh, and I don't give a healthy crap what people think/say about my car... they arent making the monthly payments, I AM.

Haha, this is a silly topic.  It should have read, "Why do people always pick the same mods and create cars that look nearly identical?"...  I really hope here in Hawaii that we can break the mold.  I think we do for the most part, but we'll just have to see.

even funnier than that is when you see someone here who actually gets upset because someone else just picked up the same kit/wheels/whatever that they have and maybe they actually live in the same state...lol.  As much as I enjoy and appreciate it, there is WAAAY more to life than modding vehicles.

I refuse to haevt he same wheels as someone i know. That instantly, makes your ride less distinctive, and someone is either gonna say your the other guy, bit each others style.

i personally, like to stay one step ahead. thast why i got my Ordens...only a handful of people have htem in the US to begin with. I mean just do a google search...lol

heres my outlook: some people have good taste. they see a car and get an image of how it should be. they decide what direction they intend to take and then decide what to add, what needs to be changed, and what needs to be removed. they can shop outside of whats popular, but will usually stick to name brands for quality and appeal.
 
then theres people with less taste, but good sense. they build the cookie-cutter cars. i think companies like jp are great for these people. you can just buy everything the company offers, follow the blue print, and have a car that ends up looking as good as somebodies with good taste. not to say that jp isn't tasteful, i love their stuff. it just makes it a lot easier for somebody who can't visualize something unique.
 
then theres people with no taste and no sense. the just look at trends, throw them together, and think because they have a, b, and c its cool. they view the car in pieces rather than a whole.

for me...

what ever mods I put on the car, I have to be able to be proud of. I don't want something that everyone else has and I really don't want something that is so main stream is blends in with the crowd. 

What I want is when you see my car, to say..."Damn...thats crazy" and NOT...."oh thats nice". I didn't spend all this money and time for it to look NICE. 

I am shooting for something that you will remember after only seeing it ONCE.  =)
