3-piece wheels: buying 1 out of the 3 pieces??
whatsup guys. i was wondering if ssr sells their lips separate.
i got three piece mk-ii's.
i'd like to keep the same wheel but go wider with more lip in the rear.
is it possible to just buy the lips separate??

I don't know if SSR sells their lips separately, but you can buy replacement lips from Kodiak Racing (www.kodiakracingwheels.com), or if you're balling enough, get Schmidt Radinox lips.

Worth checking out the site. Don't know if Tanabe sells SSR barrels, but I doubt it.

Nope... that's my beef with the Japanese wheels...
they won't sell rim parts by themselves.
If you twang a wheel, you get to buy a new one.
So much for the benefits of multi-piece.
I have spoken with Kodiak about making some barrels
for a friend's old Work 17" wheels, faxed them all the
necessary info + dimensions... they don't answer the
phone, return e-mails, or return faxes. Now the wheels
are torn apart and I can't get rim parts. Nice.
BTW, as of a year ago their rim "shells" (as they call them)
are about $150 US per part for 17" raw (unpolished).
IF they feel like selling them to you.

thanks for the reply samson.
i'm curious if the work barrels would fit on ssr's.
i doubt it but, is it as simple as counting the mounting bolts?

Work wheel barrels are ridiculously expensive.
17" lip and inner barrel are both in the lower 300s.. Very expensive.
I've been considering CNCing new lips for wheels so that we can all run reverse and step lips on these formula works hah.

That's a big undertaking! You'd probably want to spin them from
flat-sheet aluminum. The dimensions are critical so the tires
will mount up nice & snug on the beads. Not as easy as it sounds!

Oh no, don't get me wrong I won't be doing it myself
I'd "hire" a CNC shop to do it for me I'd just order 100 lips at a time to keep costs down :)
