Stock air suspension question?

I just picked up a 98 LS400 with stock air suspension and i know there few modular controller for it. So my question is should i got for it or just get coilover for now and save up for new set of air bag. From what i heard is that stock air suspension leak really easy and once it happen cost a lot to fix.

i would stay with stock air suspension and get the Data System ASC680 controller(older model will work too), if you want it to go even lower then you can add the SS kit from youzealand body. this will offer additional 20mm lower in both front and rear. This way you still have the height adjustability instead of staying with fixed driving height if you go with the coilovers.

If you ride stock height and only dump it when park youll be fine. Riding super low is gonna wear out the bags at an accelerated rate. I suppose moderately low should be fine.

I have a AC680 on my LS430 UL and that thing works great.  I am actually in the process of selling it if you are interested PM me.

you know..the way i look at it, driving the stock air suspension on my controller with low air does not ruin the bag becuase it has low air pressure which will not pop are put a hole in it. it will just ruin the dampening of the air strut. i've ran my car with the air dumped out on the freeway and over bumps many times, and let me tell you, its been over a year and my bags are fine.. havent changed them or anything.

think of it this way...a fully inflated balloon will pop with alot of pressure on it, but have you tried popping a balloon with little air in it without using a needle? its hard.

ucf11 has a point van...i think u should just get a controller

i have factory air sus with datasystem controller on my LS and i have been daily driving it for about 5 years now. so far every thing is ok, no problem with the struts or bags at all. but i dont drive the car that low because i believe that it will shorten the life of the bags since the factory air was not designed to be driven at low pressure because this will cause stress to the  bags in areas where it was not intened for similar to driving on tires that a not fully inflated to recommended pressure. also if you drive it low, as ucf11 pointed out the shocks can bottom out and get damaged.  you cannot purchase just the replacement shocks, the whole shock/airbags will need to be replaced which can cost a lot of $$. I am a proponent of using factory air with aftermarket controller but i wouldn't recommend driving it slammed, that's all. hth.

i drove in superlow mode in my car for a month and a half or so and popped a bag.  if i was you, i'd buy coilovers.  save the money you'd spend on the controller and just buy the coilovers youre going to end up buying later anyways.

Thx for all the info. Now how hard is it to install? I know the instruction is in Japanese and I'm clueless with it.

It will work on your car, you just need to buy the right wire harness for it.

takes about 1 min to lower and about 2-3 min to raise.  This is from the lowest setting L to the highest F.

Goes this low + ss kit ---- Stock would be 30mm or 1.2in higher

You cant drive on the lowest setting L, only drive on the next to lowest setting 9. The car has to be on for the compressors to be on, even to drop the car.

I've been reading up but still haven't found out what this SS kit is? I know it will allow you to lower even more than just the controller alone but where would you go to read up on this or purchase it? Thanks

SS kit is the suspension part made by YouZealand body in japan. the kit lowers the car by 20-30mm depending on the vehicle. here is the link to their web page: [URL]http://www.youzealand.net/sskit/main.html[/URL]
