VIP Movie (warning: life story)

EDIT I cut the life story rant for now: LONG STORY SHORT I wrote a movie that is getting funding in the spring and want to start a new project.

When writing I constantly come up with amusing car things I could put into a movie. I talked to my friends about it and they had allot of imput. So much so infact we had a basic outline of the movie and characters done in about 4 hours. As I type this now we have 60-some pages of script and a near complete outline of the movie. I don’t want get to into the premise but......

Friends travel to japan to get ideas to win car show back in states. Movie is funny/crazy all aspects of VIP style and some of the boso and van stuff is in it as well. Here is ulitimately my question:

A true representation of VIP without all the Hollywood glam like calling a Civic or 300C VIP because those are the cars that everyone has use true vip cars and some other platforms that show vip style. That would be cool

This would not be hollywood at all. It would be shot indie style

um i dont want to see anything about vipstyle.  vipstyle is supposed to be understated.  you dont market something like this on a movie unless the movie is a mob movie and the cars are merely extras.  this style of tuning isn't cliche'd like how jdm or drifting is.  drifting lost its understated scene because of its cliches tied to anime, JDM, among other things.  i dont want to bring up history, but  back in 2002 when i tuned my 95 240 people thought i was a dumbass for touching a car like that.  some dumbass bought my car in 2006 when thew whole scene went apeshit. the movie you are writing is a flat-out waste of time.  i dont care if you're indie, you're creating a mockery out of aftermarket tuning if you think you can write some kind of story that deals with somebody going to japan to search for tuning ideas.

I mean I see ppl round here tryin' but let me tell you something, Rent a wheel ain't got shit on me and neither does any local tuning shop. Cause frankly we ain't goin' in the same direction and god bless for that.

Thanks for the imput guys. There isn't a way to explain my idea without showing you. And I can't explain aspects of the movie without giving away too much. I'll drop the subject.

The only format I think would work would be to shoot it as a documentary. A documentary where people who are actually the life-blood of the scene over in Japan are interviewed and followed around to see what the lifestyle is really like. 

Problem is, I really don't see people over there letting that happen. I know I wouldnt want my lifestyle to be mass-produced and copied by everyone in the West. That would definitely spell the end of true VIP as we know it.

I have a feeling that you're gonna take a lot of heat for this idea, man. Just being honest.:shrug:

I think it would be a boring movie.  The vip aspect of it would have to sit second fiddle to a more exciting plot or story.  Have you ever watched vip vids?  They're kind of boring imho.

The idea started as a documentary I just ran out of money to fund it and focused elsewhere. From all the planning that went into it and other happenings I had some good ideas. Consider the issue dead. I'll just go back to building my straight knock-out 126 and we'll forget all about it.... untill 2low 2 vip hit theathers of course ;-P

add some kanto zoku . . . . . those are some characters. ;)

I say do as you feel is right but stay true to the scene and not some over hyped HiN BS..

I think you'd have a hard time (and very limited demographic) holding ones attention with a film based on VIP styled cars.

You should make a drama about a guy tryna build a VIP car and all the shiet one has to go through to build one! (2-3 jobs, waiting sevral months for parts, losing wife/gurl and/or family, spending nights in his car (like Will Smith and his son)), etc.
AND make it like 3hrs long!

Dude you guys gotta stop posting pics of my actors and leaking the name, I got a warehouse full 2low2vip shit I gotta build up a demand before I start flippin it. See the 3 guys in the film build the 3 standard VIP platforms, of course i'm speaking of the chevy cobalt, buick rainier, and the turtleback cadillac from the mid eighties. The problem i'm having is I can't figure out what which Junction Produce kit to go with for the Raininer, the sports line does have that sweet lip but the fogs in the "Destiny's Rainier" section I do like more, I just am having a hard time making up my mind I guess, plus i'm having such a hard time finding 24" juno's for the buick, I mean come on you guys 6x127 is like the most common PCD in VIP you'd think it'd be easier :laugh:

As long as you got the camera (GOOD QUALITY CAM)  & editing skills.

honestly the only movie i'd like to see would be a "based on a true story" biography of the originators and how it really went down. kinda answering the mystery around the roots of vip. but if it is what they say it is, you'd probably have some trouble gettin the truth. i think jumping forward to a comedy about some guys building a car would end up kinda lame (no offense). but hey, if thats what you wanna do go for it. i'll buy a copy.
