Rb26 in a Q45? has anyone? searched!

First and formost let me get this out of the way, yes I'm a noob, yes I searched and I found no usefull information... now then..

The idea of droping in an Rb26 into a q45 has been bothering me for some time now but I have not seen or heard of anyone doing this, how come? I have searched for some time with no results, I am really interested in doing this, any info on this?

I'm hopeing to read usefull information and/or comments, please keep your B/S comments to yourself... thanks...

There's a few with RB25's...so there's no reason you can't do the same with an RB26 with RB25 mission..but whoopty doo. It's been done before in Japan too..they've put it in basically everything and anything. I hope you have LOTS of money. This is all useful and non-bs information...it's the truth. It's also the truth that I'm not wow'd by much anymore. Most guys on here don't care about what you plan to do, so I'm being my usually blunt self to tell you that there IS NO useful info on that subject here. If you want more info on doing RB swaps..why not go to skylines down under or somewhere similar. Sorry if this makes me sound like a prick, but if I don't tell you you'll keep searching to no avail.

is where you need to be searching. Why do people come here to search for Engine swap info. I have though about doing it just b/c I like turbo vehicles. But I think in the end if my motor goes I will just have it rebuilt. Probably cheaper any way and I keep my amenities.

It's not always a cheaper way to rebuild the motor....if you do it right, it may end up costing about as much as a swap anyways (if you have the know how to do a lot of stuff yourself)

That is right up my alley, I do my own fabricating, painting, engine building ect ect..
but there is no reason why I should make it more difficult on my self when there might be a chance of finding good information that will save me allot of time and money...
I will keep searching, and I will find..

Inertia..I'm also on Ziptied besides here. I've done motor swaps and the like and fabricated car parts and aero parts. There are few here like that..but there are some of us and that number is growing as more DIYer's pop up. We do what we can to help these people with posting DIY's we've done and to show other possibilities and choices they might not have known to exist. I know where you're coming from. I'm fabricating a TT manifold and goodies for my 4.0L inline 6. Why? Because I will never be able to get that bug out of me and I love everything about turbo cars and that's what I've been used to driving. Some people don't get it..and that's okay...it's THEIR opinion..that's all. So don't sweat it too much. Guys in Japan do swaps to VIP cars too...they've popped up in the mags on several occasions.

At some point in time probably everyone here has done motor work on a car. But the majority probably wouldn't come to a VIP forum (which mainly includes cosmetic changes) to ask about motor swaps. This is why I pointed you to nico. If i was looking for info on RB swaps I definately would ask on here. No offense to anyone, but I know this isn't the place to get that kind of info.

Anyway hope you find what your looking for on NICO if not you should find decent enough info to get you started.

I understand everyone has their opinion, thats what its all about, I respect that.
I'm sure there are real profesionals in this forum when it comes to this, no dout...

Hopefully I will get this project underway sooner than I planed, I do plan on making a DIY if all goes well...

Can I ask what q45 you're planning this swap into. g50 or y33. Because depending on what your after, I believe there are jdm turbo options for both....can someone confirm. I could almost swear that both came with vg30s with turbo options. sure its not the venerable RB26 but a good option and may be less complicated a swap if you can source the parts through one of the VSC dealers.

BTW we all aren't aero and wheel fitment guys....I think el presidente said it best. My roots are HotRods Street Machines VW (air cooled) Sport Compacts and then VIP. Swapped and fabbed my own stuff for years. But this is truly a different scene. Most of us already own stuff with more than 250 HP, and thats with up to four cats and restrictive exhaust. Build some headers gut some cats....you could easily touch up near 300 HP without much energy. I've been thinking about some boost for my Q but don't want to swap it to get it done. I'll figure something out but for now like zion I'm content with low and slow and dodging potholes and manhole covers and road kill and road elevation changes and......

i just wanna chime in

the stock V8 in the cimas are a joke.
the stock VQ30DET is faster.

it can deff use more power IMO.

(not starting anything this time!!)

BUT on a side note, we WERE going to swap an sr20 into a y33, but the guy ended up not wanting ot do it becuase he would have to wait for a driveshaft.
I already make all the templates for the engine and tranny mounts.

The sr20 makes more power than the v8? I find that a joke. OR your v8 sucks compared to the 1uz vvti and 3uz....

If your mount kit works for the sr20, how much harder would it be to swap the rb series into it then. Isn't the rb-series HELLAH heavy and not really worth the power it makes anyways? I've always heard stuff like this on zilvia. Idk...I'm not around 240's anymore, so it's no big deal haha

but you gotta realize
its already a luxury car, weight doesnt matter. Zilvias complaint about Rbs is that they are heavier than an SR, and an SR does the job just fine.
a 400 HP sr (which is easy to do) will burn the rubber off any VIP car. Hell they put them in stageas to drift them!

my car is fast enuogh for right now
i make 300 HP, ill upgrade my turbo next spring to a GT3540

I don't think you would need to run an RB25 tranny, you can "unplug" the "fwd" part of the RB26 to make it a pure RWD.
At least, that's what I saw in some video where they were swapping the RB26 into a 350Z...

RB25 mission makes it far more simple. On the BCNR32 you could pull a fuse to make it RWD...but why keep all the added BS if you're doing a swap..plus, 25 missions are relatively cheap. Seems silly...

Someone here needs to get a Cima GT front clip with a VQ30DET and swap that bitch in... i think once its done and catches on its gonna be the new 240. I think the VQ is a much better platform than the VH and more potential. From what i read this engine is underpowered and requires moderate maintenance to keep it up to shape!

But the RB25 Mission (unless its an AWD mision) Will NOT bolt up to the AWD engines.

I ran into this problem with my stagea, hence hte R33 GTR mission i used
The oil pan and other structures are different on the 2WD engines vs the 4WD engines.

keep that in mind, mounts should be damn near the same from the US Q45 and Y33 here in japan
