Its not that all modern rap is garbage, its just what it put on the radio is more catchy.  Thats why you hear Soulja boy because you can dance to it and have a good time at a club (not saying I would do the superman dance lol)  The good stuff is still underground.  An east coast rapper you should look foward to is Papoose.  Hes on the same Leval Nas is on.  You can tell alot of thought is put into his rhymes

I listen to some East coast rap mostly Mobb Deep. I have all their albums & mix tapes.

man the mix tape game is where its at, although all of my s**t is southern (southern smoke, gangsta grillz, purple codiene). bun b, lil wayne, and ti kind of blend the line between gangsta and lyrical imo. definately f**kin with trae and z-ro (have been since guerilla mob back in the day), but that s**t will make you homicidal/suicidal. then theres staight gangster s**t like three 6 and jeezy to tear your trunk up.

Three 6 mafia = brain damage from all that bass! Late Night Tip is a benchmark for low low bass.
 
Papoose is the shit. Check out Alphabetical Slaughter; that song shows his incredible lyrical talent. He is also a member of DipSet, so somtimes you'll find him with Juelz Santana, another rapper to check out for; although not as lyrically gifted. Jim Jones ("Ballin'") is also a member of DipSet... haha.

I dont see any old-school artists in this list and I wouldnt put Common in that category either. That was the focus of this thread from what I could tell.
