Not sure I follow.
Do you mean the same idea as the turning signal, but with the lettering in front so it just glows?

similar to the turns, using a sticker to cover everything but the lettering so it glows through the mirror.

Only problem with that is that it looks like there is definitely a positive sticker on the mirror, because there is the reflection underneath it, that you can see on the right edge of the letters.

yeah, i see that now. but what i'm sayin is to do it with an indiglo sheet behind the glass using a sticker to cover what parts of the sheet you don't want to glow.

You can also frost an image into glass with a special spray. You just get a vynal made from kinko's thats your text cut out of a square of vynal. Then you put the vynal on how you want it, tape around the vynal square, spray the frost stuff, then peel it all off.
That glowing stuff is SWEET

Notice the LED blinkers? The whole glass is actually a seethrough with reflective on one side. So whatever u stick behind and lit it up, it will show.

...It's a magnified mirror.
If you put anything on it, IE a sticker, it's going to show the depth of the mirror.
Each LED has to have a cut-out in the mirror for them to look like that.

what i'm saying is put it behind the mirror. on every car i've seen with led turn signals behind the mirror there is no cutout, unless it is something you couldn't see from the front. i was thinkin i might have to use acrylic with window tint since the mirror might have a solid backing.

I think what 86 was saying is that the mirror BACKING needs to have a "cut-out" of whatever shape is behind it on the mirror...unless it's just mirrored tint which then those bright things behind it WOULD light up without any cut-outs in the reflective portion of the mirror...not cutting the glass/plastic itself.

for some reason their site makes me want to build stuff rather than spend money. most of the stuff they do is just little projects that make a huge difference.

Does this site tell us that you can just put leds behind an ordinairy mirror and it will shine through?

I do believe it's a little bit more involved than that. You have to take off part of the mirror backing which creates the mirror effect. Maybe mr coco can translate it for us.

Mirrors have a coating on the rear that makes it reflective. If you scratch the coating, it's just like a regular piece of glass underneath. I've seen it on damaged mirrors, and done it purposely with a plastic mirror, but I don't know what to use to do it to a glass mirror.

believe it or not, the LEDs do just shine through. Basically says to take apart side mirror, scrape off the outer part of heated mirror part (well, for us driving a GS), slap on that LED unit, and walla. However, the writer says the mirrors are VERY fragile and the slightest scratch even on the back will crack the mirror. Also you'll need brightass LEDs to shine through that much.
I love the way the GM cars do that and I looked into doing a a DIY, someone referred me to this site but scared me off...

But if you remove the mirror backing you would end up with black spots on the mirror where you removed the backing, on the pictures the mirror looks flawless.
Thanks for the translation mr coco:biggthumpup:
Now all we need to know is how to get the text lit up :)
