help! ? about my ls400
i have a ls400 when i turn on my car it smokes and i was wondering if you guys could tell me what it is its white smoke and it only smokes when you turn it on but other then that its fine i changed the oil and air filter i have not changed the spark plugs yet could that be the problem?

your power steering assist lines are leaking into your intake...i have the part if you need it...the part costs ~$100 from the local lexus dealer...

where is the smoke coming from. White smoke usually means you have a blown head gasket. Bluish smoke usually an indication your valve seals is leaking oil into you cylinders. Mine has blue smoke when i first start it, then its gone.

I'm guessing he's talking about smoking out of the exhaust since it only happens on start-up. If you allow the car to warm up to operating temp, turn ignition on, and start it back up right away do you still see it? Seeing a bit of smoke on a cold start up is normal on most cars. Its just the way the cat processes a momentary dump of unburned fuel (in a cold cat) and you are seeing the resulting process as a white smoke. Try and get a whif of it. If it smells like rich fuel then its ok if it smells kinda sweet you may be looking at head gasket failure.

sounds more like power steering fuild smoke. the idle up valve on the power steering pump is leaking and its sucking the fuild from the intake manifold.

beat me to it. does you power steering get hard at low idle , like say when your at a light and going to make a U-Turn? how bout on the freeway at highspeeds , does it get real touchyand seem kinda hard to keep in the lanes. if so thats idle up valve failure.
