Q about Y33

Hey what's up everyone.

I'm new to this forum.

I've never owned a Q45 but since i saw some sick Y33's at SEMA recently i'm looking to picking one up.

any suggestions, and things i should look out for? I've seen these cars in the second hand market going for a huge range in prices ($4000-11000)

I'm looking for a 97 or 98 touring model in silver/black, or white/black.

what should I expect to pay for one in good condition?

thanks in advance.

Yeah blue book is $5000-$7000 depending on condition and mialage...

I got mine for $10000..they wanted $12000 but when they saw 10g's cash they said ok...I was in and out within an hour...my car was in excelent condition..motor looked new headlights have no scuffs and were crystal clear..runs like champ...still can spin the tires....everything electrical worked...but that was 2.5 years ago...now they are cheaper...I know this guy who is part of the barret jackson car auction up in pheonix and when he say my car he told me I could easily get $16000 in an auction..he brought his book to show me...he told me that 97 models and 01 models where the ones to get becuase they were the first and last year they made these styles...and that holds more value than the models inbetween...so just some food for thought...I all ready had the 97 model so I guess thats the main reason I wont let her go...I think its a sitting gold mine in years to come.....

NICE!!!!

i paid $5800 2 years ago with 88k miles. silver/black. if you get lucky, you can still find one in that price range, but not the mileage. but as for Y33's knock sensors are infamous. change belts if they havent been changed and thats really it. maybe the tie rods might be bad, but thats nothing.

It is all based on the miles. I've been searching for the last two month and I finally found a 99 in Black with 82K for 7G's. There are some really cheap ones out there but they have high miles. If that doesn't bother you than don't pay more than 6G's. If you want some low mile Y33's you'll have to pay closer to 10 then. just do your research on the individual car you find and that you like, to make sure it is in an appropriate range based on miles and condition (typical for any car really). a lot of the ones u see for 5000 to 6000 are usually beat up or salvaged.

try to find one with well documented service history and mint interior exterior condition. The service history is very important.

thanks everyone.

I actually DID do a search and thus came to the same conclusion that there was a HUGE range in prices (I did read the one where one of you bought one for $10k, and another at $6500, and there is one for sale in this forum at $7500)

I've only had time to go look at 3 of these so far. black/black, black/tan, green/tan anywhere from $6000 to $8500. all with high mileage (130k+) so I'll keep looking. thanks for the input on the one in modesto. that's a bit far to go see a car.

I appreciate the input from everyone. BTW, is it just me or does it seem like demand in the second hand market is increasing d/t the growing VIP scene? I'm wondering if soon the days of "clean y33 with records and low miles for $6500" are over.

I wish I'd waited about 4 years to get mine lol. I paid $17k in 3/04 at an Infiniti dealer (same one that sold it new as well), fully documented and only 76k on the ODO with brand new headlight units. 4 years later I have only 103k on it, still fully documented, and serviced by a senior Infiniti tech from the local dealership I got it from.

For the price they go for now, they're a real bargain, but repairs are still $50k car repairs. Just something to keep in mind. In the past year I've had to replace the Knock sens, Map/baro switch, clean EGR, valve cover gaskets and replace radiator (aside from regular maint). All relatively minor things that need replacing considering it's about 10 years old, but those things add up to about 1,000 and that's with knowing the people.

Tell me about it, i fuckin hate the maintenance on this car.

I sold a landrover cause the maintenance prices were stupid, and since this is a japanese car it should be lower. I was wrong.

And i dont know if this is true or what, but at first no one in a 30mile radius had a q45. There was like 3 for sale for months. Then i buy this, couple weeks later i see like 5 diffrent q45s in a 5mile radius, about 10 for sale on CL ect.

I guess you notice your own car more then others when you finally get it.

Just find one that has recent tune ups, low milage and driven by grown folk. You should be gold.

Green and tan huh? Was ity like peanut butter tan? If so that would be tight ride to VIP.
Yea I keep sayin' that to my friends, pretty soon you can say good buy to UCF 10-11s, and I rarley see mid to late 90 model Q's around.

Aftermarket glass isnt as thick so you hear more road noise. They were talking about this on nicoclub. Gotta go OEM or factory glass to keep it feeling like a luxury car. I rather deal with a windshield that has rock chips and a huge whipper scratch for now then pay $1300 for a peice of glass.

as far as windshields go alot depends on the manufacturer...

AP Tech and PPG make windshields for Nissan OEM and I've had nothing but good experiences with them... with cheaper glass the thickness is true as is their resistance to chips and the lack of the painted (not sure what it is maybe coated is a better word) makes them look cheaper

as far as a radiator falk PM me if you still need one
