Anybody here drink wine?

Is anybody here a wine connoiseur? Basically what I'm asking is if anybody here know anything about appreciating wine and know how to bring out the flavor of it and stuff. Here is what I already know:-swirl wine around the glass to see if it is slow going down the sides of the glass. If it is, it means that the wine is thick and is very sweet.-if you can see reflection on the table from the light shining down into the glass of wine, it means its not sweet.-If you ever pour wine for someone, never place your hand on any glass part of the bottle. You place it on the labels b/c the warmth of your hand will warm the wine. also when you hold your glass, always hold it by the stem and not the body of the glass so that you dont warm your wine. That is all I know. Does anybody else know anything else or can correct what I just typed out? Someone once told me that when a person opens the wine and hands you the cork, you sniff it and look at the print on the cork to see that it matches the bottle of wine or something like that..? I can't remember..

Here is a little known fact that I learned.
If a wine is to be served at room temperature it's actually mean that it should be served at 72 degrees. Since the proper average room temp in Europe was that back in the day.
Also if you open a bottle of wine you should let it sit for at least 15min before serving.

use eisch or riedel crystals to bring out the flavors and aromas of your wine.

when i went to italy two years ago, a woman in a wine shop taught me the proper method in which to sample wine. :) here are the steps:

1) swirl the wine around in the glass to coat the inside. if you are tasting red wine, grasp the glass by the bulb. if it is a white wine, hold the stem so you don't warm it.

2) lower your nose and mouth into the glass and breathe in deeply to catch the aroma. see if you can pull out the scents of dark chocolate, leather, oak, fruits, etc.

3) raise your glass and take a small sip, but don't swallow. move the wine first to the front of your mouth, to the left and right sides, and finally swishing it to the back of your tongue. only then are you ready to swallow because all of your tastebuds are involved.

that's the way that i learned, and its just great.

I never went to Italy or anything, but that is how my cousin taught me to taste wine.

Also, if you tilt the glass a bit and put it next to a white background. You can see a color at the edge of the wine. If the edge is brown, it is mature. If the edge is not a brown, but purple or some other color, it is still young.

I am more of a beer person though, so give me a barely wine :runcoold:
