Wheel upsizing needs brake upgrades?

Does wheel up sizing needs brake upgrades?

When you upsize your wheel, most tyre website recommend to stay within 3% from the original tyre diameter so you would not have the risk of brake failure. From my experience (up sizing 4" from original), I feel the braking ability is actually decreased, even though my wheel diameter is within the 3% tolerance.

Solved the problem by changing my brake pads. Anyhow, after driving around for a while, my factory disc ruined....

with bigger wheels, even if they are lighter than the original, they still have increased mass witch in turn increases enertia and reduces the ability to stop. that is why you put more stress on your brakes

How did you increase your wheel diameter by 4" but stay within 3% of the original over diameter of your stock wheel/tire combo? I am pretty sure a 19" wheel with a 35 series tire is taller than a 15" wheel with a 65 series tire...

Not true. 
 
I went from a 225/55/16 (it may have been a 205/55/16 I'll have to check) to a 235/35/19 and it was the same outer diameter. 
 
There's a tire size calculator in the tutorials/diy's that will show you if you are in spec of your stock tires or not.
 
If anything, you could always upgrade your brakes. You have a maxima right? Can't you run z32 brakes or q45 brakes? (i'm not sure, but i think i have heard this before)

Stock wheels 195/65/15 (total 24.98"), to 225/35/19 (total 25.20"). That's how...:biggthumpup:

A32 should be able to bolt on the whole front brake assembly of R32

I have a Honda Stream. Thanks for the advice. I have two options now, getting new OEM accord brake system in front, keep the drum at rear, OR getting aftermarket street brake system in front and move the OEM Nissin system to the rear (gotta buy a new disc though). Need some modification but it can be done.

1st option is much cheaper than the second one. What do you think?

How much cheaper? That would be a deciding factor for me. Is the aftermarket kit a 4 pot system or a bigger 2 pot or what? What about the accord calipers? 

What sizes and what's the price for both. If it's not too much more, or its substantially a better braking system over the accord, I'd shoot for the aftermarket one. Also, what brand is the aftermarket one?

The brake is 14" endless basic 4 pot system (w/o braided hose) compared with nissin OEM accord (I'm not sure whether is 2 or 4 pot). Price for endless is more than double than nissin.

I don't think you need 14" endless brakes on your steam just because it has 19s..
Why not try to fit some NSX brakes onto your system?

Agree with you. Problem is, it is easier to get endless rather than NSX brakes. Hardly seen the car on local streets. Any other suggestion?

Why is it easier to get endless brakes over NSX brakes? Not enough used parts out in your area? Try finding some calipers/rotors on e-Bay, or honda based websites, they're not too hard to find especially since a lot of road racing Honda guys love NSX brakes..

I'm sure rotora makes 12" 4pot brake setups that cost a fraction of Endless brakes..

Rotora? Hmm... lemme check who's bringing in that brand to my country.

If anything, I'm sure there's a few people willing to pick up a set for you either in the States or even in Asia, and ship them out to you.
