can this be re-finished? re-touched up ?

fellow VSC members, I need your help desperately here.

it got slightly damaged while in shipping transit,  do you guys know if this can be re-touched up ? it's a tiny nick in comparison to the size of the wheel, but it cuts deeper into the clear coat. Is this fixable without re-clearcoating the entire face ?

i'm not 100% when it comes to refinishing wheels, but it may be able to be feathered and spot fixed.

No I don't think you can "refinish" the wheel without having to shave off 1-2mm off the face and reapplying clearcoat that's what I had to do to.. Came out perfect though.

File a claim with the shipper company if you requested insurance (I always insure wheels I ship for this very reason) and get a quote from a trustworthy wheel repair shop, it shouldn't be more than $140 per wheel to have them done..

what i was saying is you might be able to fix the damage to the clear, but you would still have any damage to the matal.

Lips can be fixed, faces are much much much much much more harder.  Goodluck with that!

I don't see how the lips need refinishing at all it looks fine to me?

Good luck let me know if you decide to go with either of the guys I mentioned.

Powder coat them centers...they can sand blast them then powder coat them silver..would look nice...down here in tucson would run you about $50-$75 a wheel....

Powder coat them?  no way...its a 2 piece wheel thats welded together...it will be impossible to sand blast the face completely...

Hahaha, he never said the lips needed it..he only made a general statement.  Lips are easier to refinish than the face.  Not.."hey, his lips need refinished".  But I'd say you're best bet is to have the shipping company get you a new wheel.  Was there any kind of shipping insurance??

yeah, knock down the shipping company first before you go out spending more money.

It might take a lil longer to start rollin them, but its worth the wait.

Welded? You can clearly see the rivets to take the face off?

uhh, they're dummy rivets...spoke to Qclass himself over the telephone (sold him my airrunners)...he said they were 2 piece welded...:biggthumpup: 
 
a lot of wheel companies have rivets, doesn't mean they're all multi-piece...

uumm maybe not were your at but,  here there are plenty  of places that can do this..its really not that hard to do. I had 22" wheels that where all chrome 1 piece wheels...they just taped off the area of the lips and san blasted the centers...and powder coated them to match my paint..peice of cake...at least on these wheels there is a little gap between the face and the lips that they can slide some thin board or tape inbetween...it will just require some time and patience to tape of the lips...

i understand it's no problem on most other wheels but I just don't see how they can sand blast between the barrell and lip...

have you ever seen them do it..? When they did my last wheels I was very sceptical at first untill they actually let me watch..the sand is very fine and comes out a such a high preasure that it will leave everything smooth....then they poweder coated them and once again I was amaized on how the wheels came out..looked like thats how they were made.. 
 
As far as the barrel and the lip you will not see that any way so why would it matter? all it needs is the face to be sand blasted...they could tape off the inportion ot the faces along with those lines on the faces...I wish I could take you to the place where they did my wheels..its amaizing on what people can do...

all i said was that you cannot sand the whole face completely...
 
i've never seen sandblasting done but i've seen walnut blasting...walnut beads are a little bigger than sand and is the preferred choice of a shop that does sandblasting here in hawaii...they do a lot of wheels and they said the particles are not as harsh as sand and will leave a finer and smoother finish than sand...sand tends to 'dig' in some metals causing pin hole craters...
 
but i do understand that the ends of the spoke are not seen but there is material there...sure the wheel will be 95% perfect but in this case, particularly with the guy who orginally bought the wheels, he wants them OE finish...not powder coated...
 
btw, what color finish did you powder coat your wheels?  any pics?
