you have to grind the collar so the fitting and bag sit flush...the 3rd pic is a perfect shot of why...we had to do the same thing on a g35c install...

well you did ask WHY...

yes, it is a common problem if you're running coilovers...those fittings are big compared to say, airrunners...

depending on brand of coilovers, i would say yes, it does give you more of a drop...comfy ride? depending on the driver and coilover setup...it would give a more stiff ride...

Depends on what you are after. For people like Grant, and also myself, Air with Coilovers is a great solution. But we want STIFF suspension. I aint driving my grandma around in my car no more, i just want to make sure i dont bottom out when i am driving with 1" ground clearance

If you want soft and stock, stick with your OEM airshocks. Nothing will be softer (or more boat-like) than that.

You probably want something like airrunner. I hear thats pretty good down low.
The thing is, when you are really low you *cant* have good ride, because good ride comes from the struts absorbing bumps and dips. When your chassis is 1 inch off the ground you literally have no room for movement.

airrunners are a typical airbag set up...meaning they suck super low...and they suck super high...gotta find that 'sweetspot' where you're low enough to look good but not bouncing off the road...

Just one question, instead of grinding down the collar of the upper adjustment ring of your coilover, why didn`t you just switch places of the upper and lower ring?

what rate are the dampeners ? i wouls see it that lets say.... you get the "budget weld on sleeves" use your old casing, weld it up throw in a bitching shock, it would be the same ?

is this set up as stiff as it was with the coils in ? or stiffer ? this is pretty dope.

would there be any "touge/racing/good enough to handle some corner" worthy bags worth doing this with ? as i love the uber slammed style, and while slammed i want it stiff, but for daily, low and mild. would be hell to adjust every time, but i would see this highly worth it.

if you have more info, keep us posted man !

this is good enough for a day at the track
be it drift, drag (ok maybe not drag) grip, autox, whatever

these bags coupled with a good coilover, is fantastic.
the ride is exactly like if you had the spring on, and changed the bags randomly, youd never know.

i drive at about 25 psi on even roads

about 50 on bumpy roads, and 60 if its super duper dippy so i dont kill stuff on my car.

What i really want to do ideally is this
Get a schrader valve (like a valve stem)
send a bag off to someone with a spring tester, fill the bag to the PSI you normally drive at
Have them get he APPROX tension (i dunno the right word) of the bag in relation to a spring.
Buy Ohlins, koni, etc etc and have it valved for that spring rate, and bolt it on. WIll ride like butta.

the ride is exactly like if you had the spring on, and changed the bags randomly, youd never know.

i drive at about 25 psi on even roads

about 50 on bumpy roads, and 60 if its super duper dippy so i dont kill stuff on my car.

A great setup would be the Tanabe Five's or Sevens equipped with the TEAS System and UAS modified. There you get complete adjust ability for ride height and dampening from the comfort of your drivers seat.

you can do the same with..
tein
cusco
JIC
and a host of other companies
tanabe is overpriced for the quality and ride.

thing is... i dont want to buy a coilover set up to only throw bags on. thats just pricey. i was thinking about just welding a sleve onto the stock casing, throw in some short stroked valved for like 14kg in the front and 10 in the rear.. cause suspension only rides as good as your dampening. then just figure out a uber bag set up. and i have really no experience with air bags.

awsome thread.. gots me thinking now :D

yeah, but a mismatched dampning is useless

buy a bag
put a bike valve on it (you can buy from any air store) and inflate it to the psi you want
have someone test it
get it valved based on that spring rate

i mean if you listen to me, it will be sick as fuck
if you dont, you might fail

i have this completely thought out and calcualted man, it took my 4 months to figure out what i wanted

sooo.... you are basically sayin that i have to get the coilovers redone for the psi/ rate of the bags? so if i wanted to get jic for a q45 and i got uas bags and just slapped them on it would not ride good unless i had the jic's set up the bags(sorry if i am being annoying. read the thread.... just trying to get it straight)

well

it would ride decent

but to get a true perfect setup, you would do the above
i just slapped my bags on, and tuned the PSI so it felt hwo i know it should.

but if your not experienced in how a car should handle, youll really never tell the difference
you will just say its too stiff, or bouncy.
